TL;DR: In this paper, the authors quantify the tone from the speeches of the ECB as well as that from the national central banks of six leading European nations, and analyze its role in explaining the returns of their respective stock market indices.
Abstract: We quantify the tone from the speeches of the ECB as well as that from the national central banks of six leading European nations, and analyze its role in explaining the returns of their respective stock market indices. Using innovations in financial text analysis introduced in Anand et al. (2021), we find evidence that except for France, all nations' stock indices are significantly associated with the tone of speeches delivered by either the national or the European Central Bank (or both). For France, the national stock index volatility is found to be associated with its national central bank speech tone.

TL;DR: The authors revisited the idea of using the Alkire and Foster (J Public Econ 95(7-8), 2011) class of measures to estimate multidimensional poverty in India.
Abstract: Trickle-down has been addressed, so far, using income-based measures of inequality and poverty. However concerns over the inequality in access to other dimensions important for quality of life remains. I revisit trickle-down using the Alkire and Foster (J Public Econ 95(7–8), 2011) class of measures to estimate multidimensional poverty in India. Using NSS data estimates are presented for the 16 major states and are compared to income-based measures. Adding dimensions in poverty measurement results in the reversal of several income-based conclusions about poverty across regions. The paper also finds that contrary to income-based findings, Muslims are less poor than Hindus under the multidimensional criteria.

Abstract: It is well established that improvements in education are associated with long-term improvements in economic performance. There are three broad theories about how education influences economic performance according to David Earle (2010):
The basic human capital approach is that education improves the overall skills and abilities of the workforce, leading to greater productivity and improved ability to use existing technology, and thus contributing to economic growth.
The innovation approach links education to improving the capacity of the economy to develop of new ideas and technologies.
An extension of this is the knowledge transfer approach, which sees education as a means of spreading the knowledge needed to apply new ideas and make use of new technologies.

08 Jan 2019TL;DR: This study found low levels of adoption of digital technologies for managing supply-side and customerside processes and a heavy dependence on cash and credit-based low value transactions in small retailers in India.
Abstract: The traditional business model of small retail convenience stores in India is increasingly under threat due to the entry of large supermarket chains and online retailers. This study, using a qualitative methodology and the Technology-OrganizationEnvironment framework as the theoretical basis, investigated the digitalization of small retail stores. Our study found low levels of adoption of digital technologies for managing supply-side and customerside processes and a heavy dependence on cash and credit-based low value transactions. Inefficient processes, poor physical infrastructure, inadequate access to and poor reliability of digital technologies, and the costs are limiting the digitalization by small retail stores. Expressed ambiguity and inherent contradictions regarding the benefits of transparency, perceived sense of control, tax implications and mistrust in the external regulations in digital context denote the small retailers’ incapacity to comprehend the changes and resources required to meet the challenges.
