TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate the risk-averse supply chain comprising one supplier and one retailer with mean-variance objective function and derive a general optimality condition that holds for an integrated supply chain as well as a decentralized one, for channel coordinating contracts like buyback and revenue-sharing.
Abstract: We investigate the risk-averse supply chain comprising one supplier and one retailer with mean-variance objective function. We derive a general optimality condition that holds for an integrated supply chain as well as a decentralized one, for channel coordinating contracts like buyback and revenue-sharing. Deviating from the established coordination mechanism for risk-averse supply chain, we demonstrate that a supply chain agent’s mean-variance objective optimization depends only on the demand distribution and is independent of the model parameter. The proposed method also has computational advantage over the existing mechanisms for calculating the optimal order quantity. We further establish the conditions under which one agent bears more risk than the other for aforementioned contracts.

TL;DR: An analysis of activities of mod developers on mod distribution websites and their interactions with mod users suggests that these phases are integral part of mod development and can be used to establish appropriate support infrastructure to nurture modder communities.
Abstract: Game modding has been rapidly emerging as a source of competitive advantage in the gaming industry. While gaming companies are increasingly focusing towards establishing modder communities, very little is known about the process of modding itself. In this paper, we have carried out an analysis of activities of mod developers on mod distribution websites and their interactions with mod users. The theoretical lens of meta-structuring of technology use mediation helps us understand the phases of mod development. The phases relate to the activities that gamers and modders perform in order to maximize the game-play experience and usage of the mods respectively. We believe that these phases are integral part of mod development and can be used to establish appropriate support infrastructure to nurture modder communities. The paper concludes with implications for gaming firms and modding communities along with potential for further research in the area.

TL;DR: This paper poses the problem of partitioning the routing area of a given placement into a minimum set of zones such that in each zone, no two pins belong to the same net such that topological routing can be completed among the zones.
Abstract: Topological routing has gained importance in state-of-the-art layout synthesis. This paper poses the problem of partitioning the routing area of a given placement into a minimum set of zones such that in each zone, no two pins belong to the same net. Thus, topological routing can be completed among the zones whereas within a zone the only wires are from a pin to the boundary of the zone. Hence, such partitioning may accelerate routing by reducing the problem size. The related problem of identifying a zone with maximum number of distinct pins is also considered here. Both problems are observed to be NP-hard. A genetic algorithm for the first one and a greedy heuristic for the second problem are proposed. Experimental results are observed to be near optimal in most of the cases.

TL;DR: The design of a management game and its software for use in training programs of middle- and senior-level managers of the downstream petroleum industry (refining and marketing) are described.
Abstract: This paper describes the design of a management game and its software for use in training programs of middle- and senior-level managers of the downstream petroleum industry (refining and marketing). It also highlights the lessons learnt by the participants of the game.

TL;DR: In this article, the impact of diversification and business group affiliation on performance for firms was examined under varied macroeconomic conditions, and it was shown that although diversification is influenced by macroeconomic parameters, the effect of business group affiliations is unchanged.
Abstract: There are a large number of studies that have examined the diversification–performance and business group affiliation–performance relationships. However, very few have looked into the impact of macroeconomic environment on these relationships. In this paper, we examine under varied macroeconomic conditions, the impact of diversification, and business group affiliation on performance for firms. We argue that although diversification is influenced by macroeconomic parameters; the effect of business group affiliation is unchanged. Diversification results in superior performance during munificent macroeconomic environment while it has a negative impact on performance during scarce macroeconomic environment. In contrast, business group affiliation has positive impact on performance, irrespective of macroeconomic environment.
