TL;DR: Yang et al. as mentioned in this paper exploited the idea of a local CHSH game and connect it with the scheme of Y. G. Yang et al., and presented the concept of a device-independent QPQ protocol.
Abstract: In quantum private query (QPQ), a client obtains values corresponding to his or her query only, and nothing else from the server, and the server does not get any information about the queries. V. Giovannetti et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 100, 230502 (2008)] gave the first QPQ protocol and since then quite a few variants and extensions have been proposed. However, none of the existing protocols are device independent; i.e., all of them assume implicitly that the entangled states supplied to the client and the server are of a certain form. In this work, we exploit the idea of a local CHSH game and connect it with the scheme of Y. G. Yang et al. [Quantum Info. Process. 13, 805 (2014)] to present the concept of a device-independent QPQ protocol.

TL;DR: This paper has proposed an approach to extract a good set of features followed by neural network for supervised extractive summarization and experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method against various online extractive text summarizers.
Abstract: These days, text summarization is an active research field to identify the relevant information from large documents produced in various domains such as finance, news media, academics, politics, etc. Text summarization is the process of shortening the documents by preserving the important contents of the text. This can be achieved through extractive and abstractive summarization. In this paper, we have proposed an approach to extract a good set of features followed by neural network for supervised extractive summarization. Our experimental results on Document Understanding Conferences 2002 dataset show the effectiveness of the proposed method against various online extractive text summarizers.

TL;DR: The results show that boosting classifiers outperform traditional machine learning classifiers in the detection of basic human activities such as walking, standing, sitting, exercise, and sleeping.
Abstract: Mobile health applications are considered to be powerful tools for activity-based wellness management. With the availability of multimodal sensors in smart devices used in our daily lives, it is possible to track human activity and deliver context-aware wellness services. The embedded sensors in naturally used devices such as smartphones, smartwatches, and wearables contain rich information that can be integrated for human activity recognition. Our research demonstrates how powerful boosting algorithms can extract knowledge for human activity classification in a real-life setting. Our results show that boosting classifiers outperform traditional machine learning classifiers in the detection of basic human activities such as walking, standing, sitting, exercise, and sleeping. Further, we perform feature engineering to compare the potential of a smartphone and a smartwatch in activity detection. Our feature engineering strategy provides directions about the selection of sensor features for improvement in classification of basic human activities. The theoretical and practical implications of this research for activity-based wellness management are also discussed.

TL;DR: This paper derives a three-parameter contract that can coordinate the channel and arrive at a win-win situation for the manufacturer and the brick-and-mortar retailer and finds that the contract brings down the retail price of the product which benefits the end consumers.
Abstract: “Showrooming”, a practice where consumers visit a brick-and-mortar store to examine and research a product before buying it online, is being increasingly observed in recent times. This not only adversely affects the physical store but also the manufacturer in the long run. Showrooming leads to reduced sales efforts on the part of the brick-and-mortar retailer which leads to a decline in showcasing of the product to consumers. This affects the overall demand for the product in the market. In this paper, we analyze the effect of wholesale prices set by the manufacturer on the retail prices of the products in a multi-channel environment affected by showrooming. To combat the adverse impact of showrooming, we further investigate the feasibility of a manufacturer-driven alliance with the brick-and-mortar retailer so that it expends adequate sales effort that leads to higher demand and a dedicated consumer base. We derive a three-parameter contract that can coordinate the channel and arrive at a win-win situation for the manufacturer and the brick-and-mortar retailer. Our analysis shows that the contract is more beneficial for a brick-and-mortar retailer with lower relative market potential. Additionally, we find that the contract brings down the retail price of the product which benefits the end consumers.
