TL;DR: A modified data envelopment analysis (DEA) method is applied, namely, the non-increasing return-to-scale ‘super-efficiency DEA model’ that provides improved results compared with the conventional Banker, Charnes, and Cooper DEA model in the presence of a higher number of efficient players.
Abstract: The increasing interest in club cricket and online fantasy cricket league games raises the importance of player selection from the perspective of financial and sports performance. Most previous studies focus only on player efficiency and ignore consistency and the player’s importance in a team strategy. This scenario motivates us to design a holistic player selection method based on a player’s efficiency, consistency, and importance in a team strategy. For efficiency measurement, we apply a modified data envelopment analysis (DEA) method, namely, the non-increasing return-to-scale ‘super-efficiency DEA model,’ that provides improved results compared with the conventional Banker, Charnes, and Cooper DEA model in the presence of a higher number of efficient players. We design a modified consistency index based on the semi-variance approach. Unlike the existing methods that apply a player-specific reference frame to capture variability, we use a common reference frame that calculates the consistency in a more effective manner. We aggregate different consistency indices into a single consistency index using Shannon’s entropy concept and introduce a novel ‘value index’ to determine player importance, which can also be used as an indirect measure of the player’s fitness level. Finally, we design a player performance index by aggregating the efficiency and consistency scores using the Shannon-entropy method and incorporating the value index. We perform a rigorous numerical analysis to determine the all-time best one-day international Cricket XI team for the time span of January 5, 1971 to March 29, 2015. Next, we explain the advantages as well as rationale behind the improvement in the proposed measures compared with the existing methods and highlight the key insights. Finally, we perform a comparative analysis of the proposed team, the team announced by the ICC in 2011, and the team announced by the BBC in 2015.

TL;DR: In this paper, a comparative study of two metropolitan areas, Kolkata and Bangalore, is used to highlight differences in governance patterns in light of local exigencies as well as globalization.
Abstract: A noted Indian urban geographer examines the growth and management of metropolitan cities in India since the country's economic liberalization was introduced in 1991. The author discusses the significant changes in urban policy that have been initiated over the last two decades, with the state diluting its presence in many sectors and inviting private capital participation in the economy. Also covered are metropolitan growth and investment patterns traced to major urban, state, and central government policies. A comparative study of two metropolitan areas, Kolkata and Bangalore, is used to highlight differences in governance patterns in light of local exigencies as well as globalization.

TL;DR: The network structure of interactions between articles and contributors plays an important role in the emergence of quality in UGC, and the analysis reveals that high‐quality articles cluster in hubs that span structural holes.
Abstract: Purpose – Social media platforms allow near‐unfettered creation and exchange of user generated content (UGC). Drawing from network science, the purpose of this paper is to examine whether high and low quality UGC differ in their connectivity structures in Wikipedia (which consists of interconnected user generated articles).Design/methodology/approach – Using Featured Articles as a proxy for high quality, a network analysis was undertaken of the revision history of six different language Wikipedias, to offer a network‐centric explanation for the emergence of quality in UGC.Findings – The network structure of interactions between articles and contributors plays an important role in the emergence of quality. Specifically the analysis reveals that high‐quality articles cluster in hubs that span structural holes.Research limitations/implications – The analysis does not capture the strength of interactions between articles and contributors. The implication of this limitation is that quality is viewed as a binar...

TL;DR: In this article, the determinants of CEO compensation in large listed Indian companies were examined and it was shown that there is a positive relation between pay and a firm's performance and there is no association between remuneration committees and pay-performance sensitivities.
Abstract: In this study we examine the determinants of CEO compensation in large listed Indian companies. There is a positive relation between pay and a firm's performance. We find that remuneration committees are related to higher CEO compensation and there is no association between remuneration committees and pay-performance sensitivities. Thus, remuneration committees do not act in the way predicted by governance guidelines. CEOs in family firms are paid more. This suggests that CEOs use their power as a member of the controlling family to obtain higher compensation. The minority shareholders are therefore disadvantaged. CEOs in risky firms are paid less.

TL;DR: This work presents a graph traversal algorithm called GTforDF for detecting data flow errors in a workflow that is free of control flow errors, and illustrates its operation on two realistic workflows with interconnected loops.
Abstract: When designing a workflow, it is customary practice to create the control flow structure first and to ensure its correctness Information about the flow of data is introduced subsequently into the workflow and its correctness is independently verified Improper specification of data requirements of tasks and XOR splits can cause problems such as wrong branching at XOR splits and the failure of tasks to execute Here we present a graph traversal algorithm called GTforDF for detecting data flow errors in a workflow that is free of control flow errors, and illustrate its operation on two realistic workflows with interconnected loops Our approach extends and generalizes data flow verification methods that have been recently proposed It also makes use of the concept of corresponding pairs lately introduced in control-flow verification It thus has the potential for development into a unified algorithmic procedure for the concurrent detection of control flow and data flow errors
