TL;DR: This paper analyzes, in an exploratory vein, organizational and strategic imperatives that have influenced IS assimilation and evolution of the IS application portfolio in Indian firms and analyses accompanying changes in strategic and organizational factors.
Abstract: IT investment by organizations in India has increased significantly over the last 10 years, as Indian firms have deployed IS for modernizing and reengineering their processes. This paper analyzes, in an exploratory vein, organizational and strategic imperatives that have influenced IS assimilation and evolution of the IS application portfolio in Indian firms. It first identifies three categories of organizations with respect to IS assimilation, and describes strategic and organizational factors characteristic of each group. Next, it traces the evolution of the IS application portfolio in each of the studied firms and analyses accompanying changes in strategic and organizational factors. The paper builds on IS assimilation studies in organizations from developed societies, and describes issues unique to IS assimilation in Indian firms. It is based on data collected from case studies of IS deployment in nine Indian organizations.

TL;DR: In the presence of nuisance parameters, this paper derived an explicit higher order asymptotic formula to compare the expected lengths of confidence intervals given by likelihood ratio statistics arising from the usual profile likelihood and various adjustments thereof.
Abstract: In the presence of nuisance parameters, we derive an explicit higher order asymptotic formula to compare the expected lengths of confidence intervals given by likelihood ratio statistics arising from the usual profile likelihood and various adjustments thereof. Highest posterior density regions, with approximate frequentist validity, are also included in the study.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the robustness of group divisible (GD) designs when one block is lost, in terms of efficiency of the residual design, and showed that GD designs are fairly robust.
Abstract: Robustness of group divisible (GD) designs is investigated, when one block is lost, in terms of efficiency of the residual design. The exact evaluation of the efficiency can be made for singular GD and semi-regular GD designs as ell as regular GD designs with λ1 = 0. In a regular GD design with λ1 > 0, the efficiency may depend upon the lost block and sharp upper and lower bounds on the efficiency are presented. The investigation shows that GD designs are fairly robust in terms of efficiency. As a special case, we can also show the robustness of balanced incomplete block design when one block is lost.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors aim to draw attention to the responsibility of CSR in SMEs by drawing upon existing literature on global value chains, codes of conduct and multi-stakeholder initiatives.
Abstract: Purpose – This paper aims to draw attention to the responsibility of CSR in SMEs.Design/methodology/approach – Examining the emergence of the global and Indian CSR discourse and India's industrial and SME domain in particular in the context of global value chains and SME policy, this conceptual paper looks at the deficiencies in the present approaches. Drawing upon existing literature on global value chains, codes of conduct and multi‐stakeholder initiatives, it articulates the special challenge posed by the issues of labour rights and humane working conditions.Findings – This paper suggests that SMEs by themselves cannot take up this responsibility and that the codes of conduct of transnational corporations would also be of limited utility and an active governmental role is necessary.Originality/value – The paper calls for a change in political culture that looks at humane labour practices as a necessary condition for work and not as a liability in the pursuit of investments to provide a counterweight to...

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed an approach based on game theory that models the bargain through a three-stage Nash equilibrium game and provided conditional solutions for the generalizable Case and proceed to model different stakeholder behavior patterns through two utility functional forms.
Abstract: To combat the critical stresses of rising urbanization, the government acquires land from private owners using the power of eminent domain. This land assembly causes negative externalities such as increasing social tension and injustice that may impose a long-term threat to stability and sustainable development. Therefore, there is a need to make the land acquisition process more transparent and just. Considering the unique Indian context where informality has a strong presence, we propose an approach based on game theory that models the bargain through a three-stage Nash equilibrium game. Four agents – the government, the private developer, the landowner, and the free rider – are considered. We provide conditional solutions for the generalizable Case and proceed to model different stakeholder behavior patterns through two utility functional forms – linear and exponential. In the linear case, we find that the free rider obtains half of the revenue of the project, whereas the landowner gains between one-fourth and one-half of the revenue. Thus, we highlight the undeniably crucial role free riders play in land acquisition negotiations. However, closed form solutions cannot be obtained for the exponential form, due to which we use simulations to demonstrate a solution procedure. We conclude by stating that the proposed model can be useful in formulating future land policies in a sustainable and inclusive manner, with optimal utility derivations for all concerned stakeholders. Our model can also be extended to other spatial contexts where informality features heavily in the land market, especially in the Global South.
