Abstract: Extant research has provided ambiguous answers to the question as to what constitutes an ideal balance between exploration and exploitation, in stable and turbulent environments. Much of the literature emphasizes controlling organizational actions by means of predictions based on historical knowledge. In our study, we investigate organizational outcomes when such predictions are not possible and managers intentionally focus their firm on either exploratory or exploitative innovation. Using March's iconic computational simulation model, we find that multiple exploration---exploitation combinations lead to equivalent, maximum organizational knowledge, establishing a rational basis for managerial intentionality toward exploratory or exploitative innovation. We further find that onset of environmental turbulence impacts an organization focusing on exploratory innovation in a way that is different from the way an organization focusing on exploitative innovation is impacted. The former is enabled to carry out an increasing level of its core activity, exploration. The latter is required to dial down its core activity, exploitation. Our findings suggest a resolution to conflicting prescriptions regarding appropriate response to onset of environmental turbulence endemic in the literature.

Abstract: This chapter explores the history of Management education in India and its current status as a dominated field of knowledge. Building from Ford Foundation’s support for IIMs to the 2008 IIM review committee report, it traces the developments in the notions of Management education in India. It also focuses attention on the status of the Management teacher in contemporary times, as an individual who straddles between the subordinated world of Management education and a native teacher. Following the logic of decolonial thinking and the geopolitics of knowledge, the chapter makes a suggestion for decolonizing Indian Management education. It also provides an illustration of how thinking from “other” categories opens up a new world of understanding and insight.

Abstract: Online reviews are a critical component of the retail business ecosystem today. They help consumers share feedback and readers make informed choices. As such, it is important to understand the mechanism driving the creation of reviews and identify factors which make them useful for readers. Extant work in this field has largely ignored the distribution of thematic content in reviews and its role in review diagnosticity. This article attempts to bridge the gap. A novel approach is proposed to explore the distribution of thematic content in reviews, in terms of underlying topics, and test its impact on influence of reviews. The approach is illustrated through a case study using data from Yelp. Implications of the study for theory and practice are discussed.
