TL;DR: The first measurement of the tau lepton polarization P-tau(D*) in the decay (B) over bar -> D* tau(-) (v) over b (tau) as well as a new measurement of the ratio of the branching fractions was reported in this paper.
Abstract: We report the first measurement of the tau lepton polarization P-tau(D*) in the decay (B) over bar -> D* tau(-) (v) over bar (tau) as well as a newmeasurement of the ratio of the branching fractions R(D*) = B((B) over bar -> D* tau(-) (v) over bar (tau)) / B((B) over bar -> D* l(-) (v) over bar (l)), where l(-) denotes an electron or a muon, and the tau is reconstructed in the modes tau(-) -> pi(-) v(tau) and tau(-) -> rho(-) v(tau). We use the full data sample of 772 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs recorded with the Belle detector at the (KEKB) over bar electron-positron collider. Our results, P-tau(D*) = -0.38 +/- 0.51 (stat)(-0.16)(+0.21) (syst) and R(D*) = 0.270 +/- 0.035 (stat)(- 0.025)(+0.028) (syst), are consistent with the theoretical predictions of the standard model.

TL;DR: The result is consistent with standard model (SM) expectations, where the largest discrepancy from a SM prediction is observed in the muon modes with a local significance of 2.6σ.
Abstract: We present a measurement of angular observables and a test of lepton flavor universality in the B -> K(+)l(+)l(-) decay, where l is either e or mu. The analysis is performed on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 711 fb(-1) containing 772 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs, collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider KEKB. The result is consistent with standard model (SM) expectations, where the largest discrepancy from a SM prediction is observed in the muon modes with a local significance of 2.6 sigma.

TL;DR: In this paper, the Higgs boson mass was measured in the H → ZZ → 4l (l = e, μ) decay channel and the signal strength modifiers for individual Higgs production modes were also measured.
Abstract: Properties of the Higgs boson are measured in the H → ZZ → 4l (l = e, μ) decay channel. A data sample of proton-proton collisions at $ \sqrt{s}=13 $ TeV, collected with the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb$^{−1}$ is used. The signal strength modifier μ, defined as the ratio of the observed Higgs boson rate in the H → ZZ → 4l decay channel to the standard model expectation, is measured to be μ = 1.05$_{− 0.17}^{+ 0.19}$ at m$_{H}$ = 125.09 GeV, the combined ATLAS and CMS measurement of the Higgs boson mass. The signal strength modifiers for the individual Higgs boson production modes are also measured. The cross section in the fiducial phase space defined by the requirements on lepton kinematics and event topology is measured to be 2. 92$_{− 0.44}^{+ 0.48}$ (stat)$_{− 0.24}^{+ 0.28}$ (syst)fb, which is compatible with the standard model prediction of 2.76 ± 0.14 fb. Differential cross sections are reported as a function of the transverse momentum of the Higgs boson, the number of associated jets, and the transverse momentum of the leading associated jet. The Higgs boson mass is measured to be m$_{H}$ = 125.26 ± 0.21 GeV and the width is constrained using the on-shell invariant mass distribution to be Γ$_{H}$ < 1.10 GeV, at 95% confidence level.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a signal quality-aware Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled electrocardiogram (ECG) telemetry system for continuous cardiac health monitoring applications.
Abstract: In this paper, we propose a novel signal quality-aware Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled electrocardiogram (ECG) telemetry system for continuous cardiac health monitoring applications. The proposed quality-aware ECG monitoring system consists of three modules: 1) ECG signal sensing module; 2) automated signal quality assessment (SQA) module; and 3) signal-quality aware (SQAw) ECG analysis and transmission module. The main objectives of this paper are: design and development of a light-weight ECG SQA method for automatically classifying the acquired ECG signal into acceptable or unacceptable class and real-time implementation of proposed IoT-enabled ECG monitoring framework using ECG sensors, Arduino, Android phone, Bluetooth, and cloud server. The proposed framework is tested and validated using the ECG signals taken from the MIT-BIH arrhythmia and Physionet challenge databases and the real-time recorded ECG signals under different physical activities. Experimental results show that the proposed SQA method achieves promising results in identifying the unacceptable quality of ECG signals and outperforms existing methods based on the morphological and RR interval features and machine learning approaches. This paper further shows that the transmission of acceptable quality of ECG signals can significantly improve the battery lifetime of IoT-enabled devices. The proposed quality-aware IoT paradigm has great potential for assessing clinical acceptability of ECG signals in improvement of accuracy and reliability of unsupervised diagnosis system.

TL;DR: The extensive test results indicate that the proposed intelligent differential relaying scheme can be highly reliable in providing an effective protection measure for safe and secured microgrid operation.
Abstract: This paper presents a data-mining-based intelligent differential protection scheme for the microgrid. The proposed scheme preprocesses the faulted current and voltage signals using discrete Fourier transform and estimates the most affected sensitive features at both ends of the respective feeder. Furthermore, differential features are computed from the corresponding features at both ends of the feeder and are used to build the decision tree-based data-mining model for registering the final relaying decision. The proposed scheme is extensively validated for fault situations in the standard IEC microgrid model with wide variations in operating parameters for radial and mesh topology in grid-connected and islanded modes of operation. The extensive test results indicate that the proposed intelligent differential relaying scheme can be highly reliable in providing an effective protection measure for safe and secured microgrid operation.

TL;DR: A predictive modeling framework to understand consumer choice towards E-commerce products in terms of “likes’ and “dislikes” by analyzing EEG signals is proposed and the framework can be used for better business model.
Abstract: Marketing and promotions of various consumer products through advertisement campaign is a well known practice to increase the sales and awareness amongst the consumers. This essentially leads to increase in profit to a manufacturing unit. Re-production of products usually depends on the various facts including consumption in the market, reviewer's comments, ratings, etc. However, knowing consumer preference for decision making and behavior prediction for effective utilization of a product using unconscious processes is called "Neuromarketing". This field is emerging fast due to its inherent potential. Therefore, research work in this direction is highly demanded, yet not reached a satisfactory level. In this paper, we propose a predictive modeling framework to understand consumer choice towards E-commerce products in terms of "likes" and "dislikes" by analyzing EEG signals. The EEG signals of volunteers with varying age and gender were recorded while they browsed through various consumer products. The experiments were performed on the dataset comprised of various consumer products. The accuracy of choice prediction was recorded using a user-independent testing approach with the help of Hidden Markov Model (HMM) classifier. We have observed that the prediction results are promising and the framework can be used for better business model.

TL;DR: In this paper, a search for dark matter particles is performed using events with large missing transverse momentum, at least one energetic jet, and no leptons, in proton-proton collisions at root S = 13TeV collected with the CMS detector at the LHC.
Abstract: A search for dark matter particles is performed using events with large missing transverse momentum, at least one energetic jet, and no leptons, in proton-proton collisions at root S = 13TeV collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 12.9 fb(-1). The search includes events with jets from the hadronic decays of a W or Z boson. The data are found to be in agreement with the predicted background contributions from standard model processes. The results are presented in terms of simpli fi ed models in which dark matter particles are produced through interactions involving a vector, axial-vector, scalar, or pseudoscalar mediator. Vector and axial-vector mediator particles with masses up to 1.95TeV, and scalar and pseudoscalar mediator particles with masses up to 100 and 430 GeV respectively, are excluded at 95% con fi dence level. The results are also interpreted in terms of the invisible decays of the Higgs boson, yielding an observed (expected) 95% con fi dence level upper limit of 0.44 (0.56) on the corresponding branching fraction. The results of this search provide the strongest constraints on the dark matter pair production cross section through vector and axial-vector mediators at a particle collider. When compared to the direct detection experiments, the limits obtained from this search provide stronger constraints for dark matter masses less than 5, 9, and 550 GeV, assuming vector, scalar, and axial-vector mediators, respectively. The search yields stronger constraints for dark matter masses less than 200 GeV, assuming a pseudoscalar mediator, when compared to the indirect detection results from Fermi-LAT.

TL;DR: In this article, a comprehensive review is carried out to compile various correlations proposed for determination of bubble dynamics parameters for boiling of liquids over a heated surface is a complex process due to non-linear growth of bubbles.
Abstract: The rate of heat transfer during boiling is governed by various bubble dynamics parameters such as bubble departure diameter, active nucleation site density, bubble waiting period, bubble growth period, bubble growth rate and bubble departure frequency. The study of bubble dynamics during boiling of liquids over a heated surface is a complex process due to non-linear growth of bubbles. Many studies on bubble dynamics is carried out by both experimentally and numerically. These studies are carried to propose various empirical and semi-empirical correlations for determination of bubble dynamics parameters. In the present paper, a comprehensive review is carried out to compile various correlations proposed for determination of bubble dynamics parameters. The correlation for determination of boiling heat flux or boiling heat transfer coefficient based on these bubble dynamics parameters are reported. This is done to identify important bubble dynamics parameters affecting boiling heat transfer process. Further, factors affecting bubble dynamics parameters such as effect of thermo-physical properties, heat flux, liquid sub-cooling, wall superheat, contact angle, gravity, cavity spacing and pressure are also given to get an insight into the correlation proposed for determinations of bubble dynamics parameters. The present review article proposes the importance of development of generalized boiling heat transfer correlation using bubble dynamics parameters.

Abstract: We have developed a novel coumarin-based chemosensor H 2 L with ICT character bearing the hydrazone of substituted phenol, synthesized by the condensation of 2-hydroxy-4-methylbenzohydrazide with 3-acetylcoumarin. The fluorescence spectra of the receptor H 2 L demonstrated that the sensor could selectively recognize Al 3+ over other metal ions and the detection limit was found in the micromolar concentration range. Sensing capability of the receptor for Al 3+ was reversible. Cu 2+ complex of H 2 L was structurally characterized which gave the basis for possible structure of Al 3+ complex of H 2 L. The Turn On fluorescence of H 2 L is based on intramolecular charge transfer (ICT), chelation enhanced fluorescence (CHEF) and C N isomerization to serve as fluorescent chemosensor in DMF-water solvent mixture. The receptor H 2 L showed a remarkably red-shifted absorption spectrum in the presence of Al 3+ in DMF. B3LYP-SCRF/6-31G* density functional theory explains the ICT mechanism.

TL;DR: In this article, a search was performed for third-generation scalar leptoquarks and heavy right-handed neutrinos in events containing one electron or muon, one hadronically decaying tau lepton, and at least two jets, using a sqrt(s) = 13 TeV pp collision data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 12.9 inverse femtobarns collected with the LHC in 2016.
Abstract: A search is performed for third-generation scalar leptoquarks and heavy right-handed neutrinos in events containing one electron or muon, one hadronically decaying tau lepton, and at least two jets, using a sqrt(s) = 13 TeV pp collision data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 12.9 inverse femtobarns collected with the CMS detector at the LHC in 2016. The number of observed events is found to be in agreement with the standard model prediction. A limit is set at 95% confidence level on the product of the leptoquark pair production cross section and beta squared where beta is the branching fraction of leptoquark decay to a tau lepton and a bottom quark. Assuming beta = 1, third-generation leptoquarks with masses below 850 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level. An additional search based on the same event topology involves heavy right-handed neutrinos, N[R], and right-handed W bosons, W[R] , arising in a left-right symmetric extension of the standard model. In this search, W[R] bosons are assumed to decay to a tau lepton and N[R] followed by the decay of the N[R] to a tau lepton and an off-shell W[R] boson. Assuming the mass of the right-handed neutrino to be half of the mass of the right-handed W boson, W[R] boson masses below 2.9 TeV are excluded at 95% confidence level. These results improve on the limits from previous searches for third-generation leptoquarks and heavy right-handed neutrinos with tau leptons in the final state.

TL;DR: Using long term aerosol measurements from multiple satellites, ground stations and model based reanalysis, it is shown that dust loading in the atmosphere has decreased by 10 to 20% during the pre-monsoon season with respect to start of this century.
Abstract: Desert dust over the Indian region during pre-monsoon season is known to strengthen monsoon circulation, by modulating rainfall through the elevated heat pump (EHP) mechanism. In this context, an insight into long term trends of dust loading over this region is of significant importance in understanding monsoon variability. In this study, using long term (2000 to 2015) aerosol measurements from multiple satellites, ground stations and model based reanalysis, we show that dust loading in the atmosphere has decreased by 10 to 20% during the pre-monsoon season with respect to start of this century. Our analysis reveals that this decrease is a result of increasing pre-monsoon rainfall that in turn increases (decreases) wet scavenging (dust emissions) and slowing circulation pattern over the Northwestern part of the sub-continent.

TL;DR: In this article, a search for top squark pair production in pp collisions at root s = 13 TeV is performed using events with a single isolated electron or muon, jets, and a large transverse momentum imbalance.
Abstract: A search for top squark pair production in pp collisions at root s = 13 TeV is performed using events with a single isolated electron or muon, jets, and a large transverse momentum imbalance. The results are based on data collected in 2016 with the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb(-1). No significant excess of events is observed above the expectation from standard model processes. Exclusion limits are set in the context of supersymmetric models of pair production of top squarks that decay either to a top quark and a neutralino or to a bottom quark and a chargino. Depending on the details of the model, we exclude top squarks with masses as high as 1120 GeV. Detailed information is also provided to facilitate theoretical interpretations in other scenarios of physics beyond the standard model.

TL;DR: The higher binding energy of glucose and more charge transfer from glucose to Pd-doped NiCo 2O4 compared with bare NiCo2O4 infer that Pd -dopedNiCo2 O4 possesses superior charge-transfer kinetics, which supports the higher glucose-sensing performance.
Abstract: Here, we report the facile synthesis of NiCo2O4 (NCO) and NiCo2O4–Pd (NCO–Pd) nanosheets by the electrodeposition method. We observed enhanced glucose-sensing performance of NCO–Pd nanosheets as compared to bare NCO nanosheets. The sensitivity of the pure NCO nanosheets is 27.5 μA μM–1 cm–2, whereas NCO–Pd nanosheets exhibit sensitivity of 40.03 μA μM–1 cm–2. Density functional theory simulations have been performed to qualitatively support our experimental observations by investigating the interactions and charge-transfer mechanism of glucose on NiCo2O4 and Pd-doped NiCo2O4 through demonstration of partial density of states and charge density distributions. The presence of occupied and unoccupied density of states near the Fermi level implies that both Ni and Co ions in NiCo2O4 can act as communicating media to transfer the charge from glucose by participating in the redox reactions. The higher binding energy of glucose and more charge transfer from glucose to Pd-doped NiCo2O4 compared with bare NiCo2O4 ...

TL;DR: In this article, a search for direct production of top squark pairs in events with jets and large transverse momentum imbalance is presented, based on proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, collected with the CMS detector in 2016 at the CERN LHC.
Abstract: A search for direct production of top squark pairs in events with jets and large transverse momentum imbalance is presented. The data are based on proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, collected with the CMS detector in 2016 at the CERN LHC, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. The search considers a variety of R-parity conserving supersymmetric models, including ones for which the top squark and neutralino masses are nearly degenerate. Specialized jet reconstruction tools are developed to exploit the unique characteristics of the signal topologies. With no significant excess of events observed above the standard model expectations, upper limits are set on the direct top squark pair production cross section in the context of simplified supersymmetric models for various decay hypotheses. Models with larger differences in mass between the top squark and neutralino are probed for masses up to 1040 and 500 GeV, respectively, whereas models with a more compressed mass hierarchy are probed up to 660 and 610 GeV, respectively. The smallest mass difference probed is for masses near to 550 and 540 GeV, respectively.

Abstract: Vermifiltration is an economically affordable and environmentally sustainable technology for treatment of wastewater. However, the long-term effective performance and field scale application of this system still remains a challenge due to some structural and functional limitations. Therefore, the recent researches are being focused on integrating vermifilters with macrophyte filters for efficient treatment of wastewater, its steady operation and large scale applications. The present review describes the mechanism and the effectiveness of vermifiltration alone and in combination with macrophytes filter for removal of various pollutants from wastewater such as organics, nutrients and pathogens. In addition to this, effect of various parameters on treatment process like hydraulic loading rate, feeding mode, earthworm density, mixed culture plant, filter media, organic carbon source, etc. have been discussed briefly. Based on the reviews, recommendations have been made for improving the performance and sustainability of the existing practices.

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of post weld heat treatment and normalized and tempered (N&T) heat treatment on tensile properties and hardness variation of P91 weldments was investigated.
Abstract: In Very High Temperature Reactor (VHTR), The Nb-V modified 9Cr-1Mo (P91) creep strength enhanced ferritic (CSEF) steel is currently considered as a candidate material for reactor internals and reactor pressure vessels (RPVs). After the welding of P91 steel, the inhomogeneous microstructure of weldment is a serious issue because it promotes the well-known Type IV cracking in P91 weldments. The present research work is focused on how the microstructure evolve in various zone of P91 pipe weldment during the sub-critical post weld heat treatment (PWHT) and normalized and tempered (N&T) heat treatment. The effect of PWHT and N&T heat treatment are also considered on tensile properties and hardness variation of P91 weldments. To characterize the sample scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and optical micrograph was used. It was observed that the N&T heat treatment provides the homogeneous microstructure compared to PWHT. The superior mechanical properties was also measured in N&T condition compared to PWHT. Study of fracture surface morphology of tensile tested specimen in different heat treatment condition is also presented.
