TL;DR: The experimental results show that the proposed optical fiber hydrophone can very accurately detect the click trains produced by dolphins for echolocation and can be tailored by changing the diaphragm thickness and diameter, thus opening a new platform to study the marine environment.
Abstract: For marine bioacoustics applications, the sounds by aquatic animals must be recorded with a high precision and minimal noise in order to extract valuable information. For such marine applications, we propose and demonstrate an optical fiber microtip-based hydrophone. The hydrophone design consists of an extrinsic Fabry–Perot interferometer, which utilizes fiber microtip and processed aluminum foil as two partially reflecting mirrors. The packaged optical fiber hydrophone of dimensions 1.4 cm $\times1.4$ cm $\times 2$ cm, with a microtip diameter of 31.23 $\mu \text{m}$ and natural rubber diaphragm of 6 mm diameter, shows a high sensitivity of 8.94 nm/mPa or −41.42-dB re 1 nm/ $\mu $ Pa at 1 kHz. The hydrophone shows an excellent signal-to-noise ratio, and the noise-limited minimum detectable pressure is as low as $0.388~\mu $ Pa/ $\surd $ Hz at 1 kHz. The linear working range of the hydrophone is 0–3950 Hz. The experimental results show that the proposed optical fiber hydrophone can very accurately detect the click trains produced by dolphins for echolocation. Furthermore, depending on the applications, the performance parameters of the proposed hydrophone can be tailored by changing the diaphragm thickness and diameter, thus opening a new platform to study the marine environment.

TL;DR: In this article, a search for a heavy Higgs boson H decaying into the observed Higgs Boson h with a mass of 125 GeV and another Higgs particle hS was presented, using a sample of proton-proton collisions collected with the CMS detector at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV.
Abstract: A search for a heavy Higgs boson H decaying into the observed Higgs boson h with a mass of 125 GeV and another Higgs boson hS is presented. The h and hS bosons are required to decay into a pair of tau leptons and a pair of b quarks, respectively. The search uses a sample of proton-proton collisions collected with the CMS detector at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb−1. Mass ranges of 240–3000 GeV for mH and 60–2800 GeV for $$ {m}_{{\mathrm{h}}_{\mathrm{S}}} $$
are explored in the search. No signal has been observed. Model independent 95% confidence level upper limits on the product of the production cross section and the branching fractions of the signal process are set with a sensitivity ranging from 125 fb (for mH = 240 GeV) to 2.7 fb (for mH = 1000 GeV). These limits are compared to maximally allowed products of the production cross section and the branching fractions of the signal process in the next-to-minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model.

TL;DR: The main objective of the present research is to decide the gains of the torque-based PID controller with the help of a neural network trained by using nature-inspired optimization algorithms, namely MCIWO and PSO.
Abstract: The crux in designing the PID controller lies in determining its gain values, which play a major role in deciding its performance. The gains are fed as inputs to the controller and are to be decided before its run. On the other hand, the effectiveness of the biped walk purely depends on the performance of the PID controller. Initially, the upper and lower body gaits of the two-legged robot are determined using the concept of inverse kinematics. Further, the dynamics of the biped robot is derived by using Lagrange–Euler formulation. The main objective of the present research is to decide the gains of the torque-based PID controller with the help of a neural network trained by using nature-inspired optimization algorithms, namely MCIWO and PSO. The adaptiveness of the algorithm lies in modifying the gains of the controller based on the magnitude of the error in the angular displacement received at the input to the NN. Once the controller is developed, its effectiveness is tested in computer simulations. Finally, the optimum controlled gait angles obtained by the best approach are tested on a real biped robot.

TL;DR: The proposed scheme deals with wide area back-up protection scheme utilizing cubature Kalman filtering-based DSE in conjunction with fewer PMU measurements for obtaining full observability and is tested for several faulted as well as stressed conditions including measurement error and missing data at some of the PMU buses.
Abstract: Wide-area measurements consisting of phasor measurement information, are lately used for monitoring and protection purposes. However, due to certain constraints related to usage of phasor measurement units (PMU) at all the buses, optimal placement of PMUs are needed for wide area applications. Further, limitations of supervisory control and data acquisition measurements and erroneous PMU measurements due to noise and communication link failure at some instant leads to the requirement of dynamic state estimation (DSE) using PMU information. The proposed scheme deals with wide area back-up protection scheme utilizing cubature Kalman filtering-based DSE in conjunction with fewer PMU measurements for obtaining full observability. A voltage-based index is derived using the DSE information to identify the faulty line. The scheme is tested for several faulted as well as stressed conditions such as line outage, generator outage, load encroachment and voltage stressed conditions including measurement error and missing data at some of the PMU buses. Extensive test on New England 39-bus system indicate that the proposed wide-area back-up protection scheme can reliably take appropriate action for back-up zone.
