TL;DR: A constructive method for the inference of regular grammars from positive sample strings of language using skeletal structure descriptions, is proposed, and polynomial-time algorithms based on the method are presented.
Abstract: A constructive method for the inference of regular grammars from positive sample strings of language using skeletal structure descriptions, is proposed, and polynomial-time algorithms based on the method are presented. The algorithms infer in the limit a class of regular languages, designated as terminal distinguishable regular languages. They do not overgeneralize if the samples are from a certain class of context-free languages capturing one of these basic results in formal language theory. The algorithms are adaptable for online inference. A measure of goodness for constructive methods for the problem of grammatical inference is introduced. Several examples are given to show the working and behavior of the algorithms.

Abstract: This paper demonstrates that the potential of intrinsic parallelism in Monte Carlo methods, which has remained essentially untapped so far, can be exploited to implement these methods efficiently on SIMD and MIMD computers. Two basic static and dynamic computation assignment schemes are proposed for assigning the primary estimate computations (PECs) to processors in a parallel computer. These schemes can be used to design parallel Monte Carlo algorithms for many applications. The time complexity analyses of static computation assignment (SCA) schemes are carried out using some results from order statistics, whereas those of dynamic computation assignment (DCA) schemes are carried out using results from order statistics, renewal and queueing theories. It is shown that for smaller number of processors, linear speedup can be achieved with the SCA schemes and the speedup almost equal to the number of processors can be achieved with the DCA schemes. Some computational results for Monte Carlo solutions of Lapla...

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors studied the catalytic activity of CO compounds with cubic structures and found that compounds with a cubic structure show maximum activity, which decreases with deviation from cubic structure.
Abstract: Catalytic oxidation of CO has been studied on Nd1−xBaxCoO3 and LnCoO3 (Ln=La, Sm, Nd, Dy). Catalytic activity was compared with changing x, oxygen defects and structural changes. It has been found that compounds with cubic structure show maximum activity, which decreases with deviation from cubic structure. This has been explained as due to better delocalization of the d-electrons of cobalt in the cubic compounds.

TL;DR: In this article, the Galerkin method is used to reduce the five coupled equilibrium equations to a single second order ordinary differential equation in time variable by ignoring certain inertia terms, and the solution of which is obtained by the method of multiple scales.
Abstract: Recently developed shear deformation theory is used to analyse large amplitude, flexural vibrations of laminated rectangular plates subject to in-plane forces. Single mode approach, in conjunction with the Galerkin method, is used to reduce the five coupled equilibrium equations to a single second order ordinary differential equation in time variable by ignoring certain inertia terms. This reduced equation involves quadratic and cubic nonlinearities and the solution of which is obtained by the method of Multiple Scales. Numerical results are presented in tabular form for various parameters of the rectangular plate considered.

Abstract: A new pulsewidth modulation strategy requiring fewer commutations for a given number of pulses per cycle is described. Requisite switching schedules are developed for a general inverter. Harmonic analysis of the line voltage waveform is done for a few cases. The current and the torque waveforms of such a PWM inverter feeding an induction motor and incorporating current-limiting inductors are computed. Experimental voltage and current waveforms are presented.

TL;DR: In this paper, a flow-rate effect on specific retention volume (V) was studied by eluting aliphatic, aromatic, and chlorinated probes at infinite dilution on poly(n-butyl methacrylate) stationary phase at different temperatures from −10 to 150°C, encompassing both the glass transition and the softening temperatures of the polymer.
Abstract: Flow-rate effect on specific retention volume (V) was studied by eluting aliphatic, aromatic, and chlorinated aliphatic probes at infinite dilution on poly(n-butyl methacrylate) stationary phase at different temperatures from −10 to 150°C, encompassing both the glass transition (Tg) and the softening temperatures of the polymer. The effect became pronounced as the temperature was reduced below 100°C. V decreased with an increase in the flow rate: first linearly at temperatures between 70 and 100°C, and then nonlinearly at all temperatures below 70°C. The retention diagrams of n-pentane, isooctane, and cyclohexane alone enabled the detection of glass transition. Dichloromethane gave a linear retention diagram through Tg without showing the flow-rate effect.

TL;DR: In this paper, reflectance measurements in the visible and near infrared wavelengths of alluvial, black cotton and lateritic soils under different conditions show that reflectance has negative association with soil moisture and organic matter in all the three soils.
Abstract: Spectral reflectance measurements in the visible and near infrared wavelengths of alluvial, black cotton and lateritic soils under different conditions show that reflectance has negative association withsoil moisture and organic matter in all the three soils. In lateritic soils reflectance increases with decrease of particle size. Variations in reflectance due to changes in concentrations of parameters were generally restricted to certain concentration levels. The generally superior discriminant capability of band 4 (0.8 to 1.1 urn) is indicative of its utility in soil and soil characteristics mapping.

TL;DR: In this paper, the temperature dependence of the barrier height for amorphous-silicon-Au Schottky barriers between 150 and 400 K for doped and undoped samples was studied.
Abstract: In this paper, we study the temperature dependence of the barrier height for amorphous-silicon-Au Schottky barriers between 150 and 400 K for doped and undoped samples. We find that the temperature dependence of the barrier height is similar to that expected for the band gap. This suggests (a) the barrier height is pinned by surface states which are ‘valence band’ like and (b) the temperature dependence of the mobility edge is similar to that of the band gap in these samples.

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of various diol chain extenders on the thermal, mechanical, electrical and viscoelastic properties of polyurethanes is discussed, using a polyester (polyethylenepropyleneadipate) and toluene-2,4-diisocyanate.
Abstract: The effect of various diol chain extenders on the thermal, mechanical, electrical and viscoelastic properties of polyurethanes is discussed. Prepolymers were prepared using a polyester (polyethylenepropyleneadipate) and toluene-2,4-diisocyanate. Diol chain extenders were of three types in order to investigate structure–property relationships: (a) α,ω-aliphatic diols; (b) diols with unsaturation present in the chain; and (c) diols with an oxygen atom present in the chain.

TL;DR: In this paper, a depletion-mode MOSFET model is derived which includes the effects of the diffusion current along the channel and actual band bending at the semi-conductor surface.
Abstract: A new depletion-mode MOSFET model is derived which includes the effects of the diffusion current along the channel and the actual band-bending at the semi-conductor surface Because of the latter, a single drain current equation is obtained for the device operating in the linear region, irrespective of whether the channel surface is in accumulation or depletion A separate equation for the diffusion current is also derived Numerical results indicate that diffusion current is not significant in the linear regime of operation and, by extrapolation, in saturation
