Abstract: Many minimally invasive surgical procedures are now performed using teleoperated robotic systems. However, such commercially available systems do not provide significant force feedback to the surgeon. This reduces surgeon's dexterity and increases tissue trauma when performing the operation. In this paper, a compact and lightweight forceps' manipulator using pneumatic artificial muscles (PAMs) for minimally invasive surgery is presented, which allows for the perception of manipulation force without the usage of the force sensor. The main advantage of this concept is that no force sensor has to be integrated into surgical instruments and inserted into the patient's body. Rather, a disturbance observer is integrated into the slave-side controller for the estimation of the external force acting at the forcep's tip. This approach reduces costs and stabilizability demands for forceps' manipulator while enables haptic feedback to the surgeons. Results of force perception experiments and comparison with forceps' manipulator driven by pneumatic cylinders are presented to validate the concepts.

Abstract: Cancer is still a major risk factor to public health globally, causing approximately 9.8 million deaths worldwide in 2018. Despite advances in conventional treatment modalities for cancer treatment, there are still few effective therapies available due to the lack of selectivity, adverse side effects, non-specific toxicities, and tumour recurrence. Therefore, there is an immediate need for essential alternative therapeutics, which can prove to be beneficial and safe against cancer. Various phytochemicals from natural sources have been found to exhibit beneficial medicinal properties against various human diseases. Zerumbone is one such compound isolated from Zingiber zerumbet Smith that possesses diverse pharmacological properties including those of antioxidant, antibacterial, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, as well as anti-neoplastic. Zerumbone has shown its anti-cancer effects by causing significant suppression of proliferation, survival, angiogenesis, invasion, and metastasis through the molecular modulation of different pathways such as NF-κB, Akt, and IL-6/JAK2/STAT3 (interleukin-6/janus kinase-2/signal transducer and activator of transcription 3) and their downstream target proteins. The current review briefly summarizes the modes of action and therapeutic potential of zerumbone against various cancers.

Abstract: We perform amplitude analyses of the decays B0→K +K -KS0, B +→K +K -K +, and B +→KS0KS0K +, and measure CP-violating parameters and partial branching fractions. The results are based on a data sample of approximately 470×106 BB decays, collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. For B +→K +K -K +, we find a direct CP asymmetry in B +→(1020)K + of A CP=(12.8±4.4±1.3)%, which differs from zero by 2.8σ. For B0→K +K -KS0, we measure the CP-violating phase β eff((1020)KS0)=(21±6±2)°. For B +→KS0KS0K +, we measure an overall direct CP asymmetry of A CP=(4-5+4±2)%. We also perform an angular-moment analysis of the three channels and determine that the f X(1500) state can be described well by the sum of the resonances f 0(1500), f2′(1525), and f 0(1710). © 2012 American Physical Society.
