Abstract: In this paper, a chattering free adaptive sliding mode controller (SMC) is proposed for stabilizing a class of multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems affected by both matched and mismatched types of uncertainties. The proposed controller uses a proportional plus integral sliding surface whose gain is adaptively tuned to prevent overestimation. A vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft system is simulated to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

Abstract: Microfiltration of industrial oily wastewater was performed using polyamide membrane. A rectangular cross flow membrane cell was used for the experiments. Effects of different operating parameters such as transmembrane pressure drop and Reynolds numbers on the steady state permeate flux and oil rejection was investigated in detail. Initial oil concentration in the industrial oil-water emulsion was found to be 192 mg/L with average oil droplet range size 0.01 to 47 µm. The treated industrial oily water was characterized in terms of electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids (TDS), and chemical oxygen demand (COD). It was observed that the steady state permeate flux increased with transmembrane pressure drop and Reynolds numbers. The oil concentration in permeate was found to be around 4.5 mg/L, after treatment, which was lower than the permissible discharge limit. Abstract: The densities and viscosities of aqueous blends of piperazine (PZ) with N-methyldiethanolamine (MDEA) and 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol (AMP) have been measured at (288, 293, 298, 303, 308, 313, 318, 323, 328, and 333) K. The total amine mass fraction in all solutions was kept at 30 % in view of recent interest in using concentrated amine solutions in gas treating. Correlations for the density and viscosity of the ternary mixtures are presented as a function of temperature and amine concentration.

Abstract: In this study, removal of arsenazo(ΙΙΙ) using activated carbon (AC) and multiwalled carbon nanotubes and of methyl red using AC from waste water is reported. The influences of pH, temperature, concentration of the dye, amount of adsorbents, particle size of adsorbent, and contact time on the efficiency of removal from aqueous solution are investigated. Adsorption experiments indicate that the extent of adsorption is strongly dependent on the pH of the solution. Changes in free energy of adsorption ( ), enthalpy ( ), and entropy ( ) are calculated to understand the nature of adsorption. The calculated values of indicate that the adsorption process is spontaneous. The estimated values of and are positive which indicates that the adsorption process is endothermic and that the dye molecules are organized on the adsorbent surface in a more random fashion than in solution.
