Abstract: Small molecule ligands that could stabilize G-quadruplex structure formed at the promoter region of human c-myc oncogene will regulate its expression in cancer cells. Flavonoids, a group of naturally available small molecule, have been known for their various promising effects on human health. In present study, we have performed detailed biophysical studies for the interaction of human c-myc G-quadruplex DNA with nine representative flavonoids: Luteolin, Quercetin, Rutin, Genistein, Kaempferol, Puerarin, Hesperidin, Myricetin and Daidzein. We found by using fluorescence titration that Quercetin interacts with c-myc G-quadruplex DNA sequence Pu24T with highest affinity. This interaction was further explored by using NMR spectroscopy and we have derived the first solution structure for the complex formed between Quercetin and biologically significant c-myc promoter DNA sequence forming G-quadruplex structure. In present solution structure, Quercetin stacks at 5′ and 3′ G-tetrads of Pu24T G-quadruplex structure and stabilize it via π-π stacking interactions. Furthermore, in vitro studies on HeLa cells suggested that Quercetin induces apoptosis-mediated cell death and down-regulated c-myc gene expression. This study emphasizes the potential of flavonoids as a promising candidate for targeting c-myc promoter region and thus, could act as a potential anti-cancer agent.

Abstract: Cellulose is an abundant natural piezoelectric polymer and is also a renewable resource of significant importance. Here in this work we realize an enhanced piezoelectric response with cellulose in a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) matrix by forming a nanocomposite with the incorporation of gold nanoparticles (Au NPs). In the Au NP–cellulose/PDMS nanocomposite an enhancement in the dielectric constant is recorded due to the presence of cellulose alone and a reduction of dielectric loss is found owing to the presence of Au NPs. This opens the possibility of realizing a nanodielectric material from the nanocomposite under current study. This also indicates the significant potential of the nanocomposite towards energy conversion applications. Subsequently, a mechanical energy harvesting device was fabricated using the Au NP–cellulose/PDMS nanocomposite, which is named as a piezoelectric nanogenerator (PNG). The PNG delivered an enhanced open circuit voltage of ∼6 V, short circuit current of ∼700 nA and a peak power density of 8.34 mW m−2 without performing any electrical poling steps. The PNG could charge a 10 μF capacitor to 6.3 V in 677 s and could light two commercial blue light emitting diodes (LEDs) simultaneously. The PNG exhibited a good energy conversion efficiency of 1.8%. A touch sensor application of the PNG is also shown.

Abstract: The chimera state with co-existing coherent-incoherent dynamics has recently attracted a lot of attention due to its wide applicability. We investigate non-locally coupled identical chaotic maps with delayed interactions in the multiplex network framework and find that an interplay of delay and multiplexing brings about an enhanced or suppressed appearance of chimera state depending on the distribution as well as the parity of delay values in the layers. Additionally, we report a layer chimera state with an existence of one layer displaying coherent and another layer demonstrating incoherent dynamical evolution. The rich variety of dynamical behavior demonstrated here can be used to gain further insight into the real-world networks which inherently possess such multi-layer architecture with delayed interactions.

TL;DR: In this article, a non-enzymatic glucose sensor screen printed electrode based on iron doped zinc oxide (Fe@ZnO) nanoparticles was reported. And the obtained results showed a remarkable good limit of detection of 0.30μm.
