02 Mar 2004TL;DR: In this article, the application of radial basis function (RBF) neural networks for fault classification and location in transmission lines is presented, where instantaneous current/voltage samples have been used as inputs to artificial neural networks (ANNs).
Abstract: The application of radial basis function (RBF) neural networks for fault classification and location in transmission lines is presented. Instantaneous current/voltage samples have been used as inputs to artificial neural networks (ANNs). Whereas, for fault classification, prefault and postfault samples of only the three-phase currents are sufficient, for fault location, postfault samples of both currents and voltages of the three phases are necessary. To validate the proposed approach simulation studies have been carried out on two simulated power-system models: one in which the transmission line is fed from one end and another, in which the transmission line is fed from both ends. The models are subjected to different types of faults at different operating conditions for variations in fault location, fault inception angle and fault point resistance. The results of the simulation studies which are presented confirm the feasibility of the proposed approach.

TL;DR: In this article, a nonlinear model in the form of a mapping from one point of observation to the next has been derived, which has a closed form even when the parasitic elements are included.
Abstract: The occurrence of nonlinear phenomena like subharmonics and chaos in power electronic circuits has been reported recently. In this paper, the authors investigate these phenomena in the current-mode-controlled boost power converter. A nonlinear model in the form of a mapping from one point of observation to the next has been derived. The map has a closed form even when the parasitic elements are included. The bifurcation behavior of the boost power converter has been investigated with the help of this discrete model.

21 Mar 2012TL;DR: A two-phase protocol based on cooperative decode-and-forward relaying for a secondary system to achieve spectrum access along with a primary system, which shows that as long as ST is located within a critical radius from PT, there exists a threshold value for alpha above which the outage probability of the primary system will be equal to or lower than the case without spectrum sharing.
Abstract: A new transmission protocol for joint cooperation between a primary and secondary user in a cognitive radio system is proposed. If successful decoding is achieved, the primary/secondary transmitters behave as relays for the other system. With more efficient use of the communication resource, performance is enhanced. The proposed scheme builds on the work in [1] and offers improved outage probabilities for both the primary and secondary systems. The paper provides a full characterization of the Markov Chain describing the protocol behavior and a closed form expression for the stationary distribution of the chain. Furthermore, exact computation or tight approximations for the outage probabilities for all states of the chain are derived. Simulation results exhibit a performance improvement between 22 and 48 percent for primary system and an uniform decrease of outage probability for secondary system.
