10 Oct 2011TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate the impact of intrinsic motivation mechanisms in multi-agent learning scenarios, by considering how such motivational system may drive an agent to engage in behaviors that are socially aware.
Abstract: Recently, a novel framework has been proposed for intrinsically motivated reinforcement learning (IMRL) in which a learning agent is driven by rewards that include not only information about what the agent must accomplish in order to “survive”, but also additional reward signals that drive the agent to engage in other activities, such as playing or exploring, because they are “inherently enjoyable”. In this paper, we investigate the impact of intrinsic motivation mechanisms in multiagent learning scenarios, by considering how such motivational system may drive an agent to engage in behaviors that are “socially aware”. We show that, using this approach, it is possible for agents to learn individually to acquire socially aware behaviors that tradeoff individual well-fare for social acknowledgment, leading to a more successful performance of the population as a whole.

01 Jan 2003TL;DR: The implemented voice input/output possibilities and the service independence level opens a wide range of possibilities for the development of new applications using the current components of the Spoken Dialogue System.
Abstract: In this paper we describe a multi-purpose Spoken Dialogue System platform associated with two distinct applications as an home intelligent environment and remote access to information databases. These applications differ substantially on contents and possible uses but gives us the chance to develop a platform where we were able to represent diverse services to be accessible by a spoken interface. The implemented voice input/output possibilities and the service independence level opens a wide range of possibilities for the development of new applications using the current components of our Spoken Dialogue System.

TL;DR: A confrontation between data-driven and model-driven adaptive control algorithms for distributed collector solar fields is made using experimental results and algorithm structure and a trade-off is shown to exist; i.e. by incorporating more information about plant dynamics, the control algorithms yield an increased performance, but they become plant dependent.
Abstract: Distributed collector solar fields are spatially distributed technical systems which aim at collecting and storing energy from solar radiation They are formed by mirrors which concentrate direct incident sunlight in a pipe where an oil is able to accumulate thermic energy flows From the control point of view, the objective consists of making the outlet oil temperature to track a reference signal by manipulating the oil flow, in the possible presence of fast disturbances caused by passing clouds Significant levels of uncertainty motivate the use of adaptive methods A confrontation between data-driven and model-driven adaptive control algorithms for distributed collector solar fields is made using experimental results and algorithm structure A trade-off is shown to exist; ie by incorporating more information about plant dynamics, the control algorithms yield an increased performance, but they become plant dependent

03 Jul 2013TL;DR: This paper studies the impact of node misbehavior on seven DTN routing protocols using a large set of simulations and shows that different protocols are more resilient to different types of nodes misbehavior.
Abstract: Delay-Tolerant Networks (DTNs) are composed of nodes that cooperate to forward messages despite connectivity issues. This paper focuses on the problem of some nodes making limited or no contribution to the network. Misbehaving nodes consume network resources, reducing its performance and availability, therefore they constitute an important problem that should be considered. We study the impact of node misbehavior on seven DTN routing protocols using a large set of simulations. The results show that different protocols are more resilient to different types of node misbehavior.
