01 Jan 2013TL;DR: Observations in morbidly obese subjects suggest that the amount of fibrosis might hamper fat mass loss induced by surgery and more knowledge is nevertheless necessary to understand the contribution of ECM modifications and the consequence of fibrous depots.
Abstract: White adipose tissue is composed of mature adipocytes, precursors (preadipocytes), endothelial cells, macrophages, and other immune cells The phenotype, amount, and biology of each adipose tissue component are profoundly altered in human obesity Low-grade inflammation both at the local and systemic levels characterizes obesity and appears to have a key role in mediating the consequence of increased adipose tissue mass on metabolic and vascular co-morbidities Moreover, a new concept of accumulation of extracellular matrix (ECM) components in adipose tissue has been recently proposed Integrity of the ECM is essential for the proper development of AT in a physiological context In pathologic conditions, more knowledge is nevertheless necessary to understand the contribution of ECM modifications and the consequence of fibrous depots Observations in morbidly obese subjects suggest that the amount of fibrosis might hamper fat mass loss induced by surgery

TL;DR: Patients suffering from interstitial lung disease (ILD) share a number of similarities with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients, but management discrepancies are noted between the two patient groups regarding intensive care unit (ICU) admission policy.
Abstract: Patients suffering from interstitial lung disease (ILD) share a number of similarities with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. The natural evolution in both patient groups is a slow deterioration of lung capacity punctuated by exacerbations, and available treatments are mostly aimed at sustaining lung capacity and preventing exacerbations. Additionally, the last treatment option is lung transplantation (LTx), which is usually performed, in chronic, stable patients. However, management discrepancies are noted between the two patient groups regarding intensive care unit (ICU) admission policy.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors explored novel ways to target NK-cell neoplasms by combining the clinically approved JAK inhibitor ruxolitinib with other targeted agents, including glucocorticoid dexamethasone or the myeloid cell leukemia-1 (MCL-1) inhibitor S63845.
