TL;DR: Mevel et al. as mentioned in this paper showed that the MOHO likely corresponds to a hydration boundary, which could match the 500-°C isotherm beneath the ridge axis.

TL;DR: In this article, the age of the Earth and its relation to the ages of the meteorites were investigated using lead isotope systematics, and the results indicated precise time constraints for the formation of the first planetary objects of the solar system.

TL;DR: In graphene, the phonon anharmonic lifetimes and decay channels of the A(1)' mode at K dominate over E(2g) at Gamma and couple strongly with acoustic phonons, highlighting how ballistic transport in carbon-based interconnects requires careful engineering of phonon decays and thermalization.
Abstract: We determine from first principles the finite-temperature properties-linewidths, line shifts, and lifetimes-of the key vibrational modes that dominate inelastic losses in graphitic materials. In graphite, the phonon linewidth of the Raman-active E(2g) mode is found to decrease with temperature; such anomalous behavior is driven entirely by electron-phonon interactions, and does not appear in the nearly degenerate infrared-active E(1u) mode. In graphene, the phonon anharmonic lifetimes and decay channels of the A(1)' mode at K dominate over E(2g) at Gamma and couple strongly with acoustic phonons, highlighting how ballistic transport in carbon-based interconnects requires careful engineering of phonon decays and thermalization.

TL;DR: In this paper, random packings of grains of arbitrary shape are built with an algorithm that is mostly applied to spheres, ellipsoids, cylinders, and parallelepipeds.
Abstract: Random packings of grains of arbitrary shape are built with an algorithm that is mostly applied to spheres, ellipsoids, cylinders, and parallelepipeds. A systematic account of the main geometrical properties such as the porosity, the reduced specific area, etc. is given. The conductivity, the permeability, and the dispersion are also systematically determined and they are shown not to depend upon their mode of construction.

Abstract
The Raman spectrum of carbonaceous material (CM) from advanced diagenesis (∼200 °C) to low-grade metamorphism (∼320 °C) is documented in the Helvetic flysch of the Glarus Alps (Switzerland). The spectrum is complex, with several defect bands at ∼1200 (D4), ∼1350 (D1), ∼1500 (D3) and ∼1620 (D2) cm−1. We document the evolution of these bands relative to the ‘graphite’ G band with increasing metamorphic grade, and we show that this qualitative evolution may be used as a proxy for temperature in the Glarus Alps. We develop a robust peak-fitting method and propose quantitative parameters that may be used as proxies for thermal metamorphism in this region. Further work in other geological contexts is needed to assess whether the spectral evolution observed in the Glarus Alps may be generalized and to critically assess the potential for calibrating a general, empirical and quantitative thermometer based on the Raman spectrum of CM in low-grade rocks.
