Abstract: Thermoplastic starch (TPS) polymers were reviewed in this article. This review was categorized into the following studies: the role of starch as a thermoplastic polymer, transformation and melting mechanisms, plasticization and plasticizers, reactive extrusion (REX) and modifications, retrogradation, biodegradability, filler and blenders, and nano-particle incorporation in thermoplasticstarch. This categorizationallows us to understandthe developments in this field in recent years and shows that the major challenges in the future are reducing sensitivity to moisture and retarding retrogradation of the thermoplastic matrix. Moreover, nano-particles such as clay can be used in TPS matrices to overcome these disadvantages.

Abstract: Flood is one of the most prevalent natural disasters that frequently occur in the northern part of Iran reported in hot spots of flood occurrences The main aim of the current study was to prepare flood susceptibility maps using four models, namely frequency ratio (FR), weights-of-evidence (WofE), analytical hierarchy process (AHP), and ensemble of frequency ratio with AHP (FR-AHP), and to compare them at Haraz Watershed in Mazandaran Province, Iran A total of 211 flood locations were prepared in GIS environment, of which 151 locations were randomly selected for modeling and the remaining 60 locations were used for validation aims In the next step, 10 flood-conditioning factors were prepared including slope angle, plan curvature, elevation, topographic wetness index, stream power index, rainfall, distance from river, geology, landuse, and normalized difference vegetation index The receiver operating characteristic curve and the area under the curve (AUC) were created for different flood susceptibility maps Validation of results showed that AUC values for success rate in training data set, for FR, WofE, AHP, and FR-AHP, were 9707, 9896, 9591, and 8619 % with prediction rates of 09657 (9657 %), 09596 (9596 %), 09492 (9492 %), and 08469 (8469 %), respectively Moreover, the results showed that the frequency ratio model had the highest AUC in comparison with other models Generally, the four models show a reasonable accuracy in flood-susceptible areas The results of this study can be useful for managers, researchers, and planners to manage the susceptible areas to flood and reduce damages

Abstract: As an alluring metal-free polymeric semiconductor material, graphite-like carbon nitride (g-C3N4; abbreviated as GCN) has triggered a new impetus in the field of photocatalysis, mainly favoured from its fascinating physicochemical and photoelectronic structural features. However, certain inherent drawbacks, involving rapid reassembly of photocarriers, low specific surface area and insufficient optical absorption, limit the wide-range applicability of GCN. Generation of 0D point defects mainly by introducing vacancies (C and/or N) into the framework of GCN has spurred extensive consideration owing to their distinctive qualities to manoeuvre substantially, the optical absorption, radiative carrier isolation, and surface photoreactions. The present review endeavours to summarise a comprehensive study on vacancy defect engineered GCN. Starting from the basic introduction of defects and C/N vacancy modulated GCN, numerous advanced strategies for the controlled designing of vacancy rich GCN have been explored and discussed. Afterwards, light was thrown on the various substantial technologies which are useful for characterising and identifying the introduction of defects in GCN. The salient significance of defect engineering in GCN has been reviewed concerning its impact on optical absorption, charge isolation and surface photoreaction ability. Typically, the achievement of defect engineered GCN has been scrutinised toward various applications like photocatalytic water splitting, CO2 conversion, N2 fixation, pollutant degradation, and H2O2 production. Finally, the review ends with conclusions and vouchsafing future challenges and opportunities on the intriguing and emerging area of vacancy defect engineered GCN photocatalysts.
