26 Oct 2008TL;DR: This paper presents a taxonomy of intrusion detection systems that is then used to survey and classify them, and consists of the detection principle, and second of certain operational aspects of the intrusion detection system.
Abstract: The rapid proliferation of computer networks has changed the prospect of network security. An easy accessibility condition cause computer networkpsilas vulnerable against several threats from hackers. Threats to networks are numerous and potentially devastating. Up to the moment, researchers have developed Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) capable of detecting attacks in several available environments. A boundlessness of methods for misuse detection as well as anomaly detection has been applied. Many of the technologies proposed are complementary to each other, since for different kind of environments some approaches perform better than others. This paper presents a taxonomy of intrusion detection systems that is then used to survey and classify them. The taxonomy consists of the detection principle, and second of certain operational aspects of the intrusion detection system.

TL;DR: This review surveyed the role of furin cleavage site (FCS) on the life cycle of the CoV and discussed that the small molecular inhibitors can limit the interaction of ACE-2 and furin with SP and can be used as potential therapeutic platforms to combat the spreading CoV epidemic.
Abstract: The widespread antigenic changes lead to the emergence of a new type of coronavirus (CoV) called as severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS)-CoV-2 that is immunologically different from the previous circulating species. Angiotensin-converting enzyme-2 (ACE-2) is one of the most important receptors on the cell membrane of the host cells (HCs) which its interaction with spike protein (SP) with a furin-cleavage site results in the SARS-CoV-2 invasion. Hence, in this review, we presented an overview on the interaction of ACE-2 and furin with SP. As several kinds of CoVs, from various genera, have at their S1/S2 binding site a preserved site, we further surveyed the role of furin cleavage site (FCS) on the life cycle of the CoV. Furthermore, we discussed that the small molecular inhibitors can limit the interaction of ACE-2 and furin with SP and can be used as potential therapeutic platforms to combat the spreading CoV epidemic. Finally, some ongoing challenges and future prospects for the development of potential drugs to promote targeting specific activities of the CoV were reviewed. In conclusion, this review may pave the way for providing useful information about different compounds involved in improving the effectiveness of CoV vaccine or drugs with minimum toxicity against human health.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. TL;DR: The importance of surface properties in cell function is discussed, recent methods for surface modifications are systematically highlighted, and the impact of bulk material properties on the cellular responses is briefly reviewed.
Abstract: Surface interaction at the biomaterial–cell interface is essential for a variety of cellular functions, such as adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation. Nevertheless, changes in the biointerface enable to trigger specific cell signaling and result in different cellular responses. In order to manufacture biomaterials with higher functionality, biomaterials containing immobilized bioactive ligands have been widely introduced and employed for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. Moreover, a number of physical and chemical strategies have been used to improve the functionality of biomaterials and specifically at the material interface. Here, the interactions between materials and cells at the interface levels are described. Then, the importance of surface properties in cell function is discussed and recent methods for surface modifications are systematically highlighted. Additionally, the impact of bulk material properties on the cellular responses is briefly reviewed.

TL;DR: The main observed adverse effects of probiotics were sepsis, fungemia and GI ischemia, and the overwhelming existing evidence suggests that probiotics are safe, complete consideration of risk-benefit ratio before prescribing is recommended.
Abstract: Introduction: There is growing evidence on the use of probiotics in various diseases, especially in gastrointestinal (GI) diseases. Although probiotics have been found helpful in many illnesses, they do not always seem to be safe. Through interference with commensal microflora, they can result in opportunistic performances in the host due to bacterimia and fungemia. Since considerable numbers of consumers use probiotic products worldwide, assurance of safety of these products is necessary. Areas covered: This review evaluates all the existing information about the safety of probiotics in humans and animal models up to May 2013. In all eligible published studies in which adverse effects and tolerability of probiotics were investigated and reported, no language limitations were applied. The main key search terms were ‘probiotics,’ ‘safety,’ ‘side effects,’ ‘clinical trial’ and ‘adverse effects.’ The vast majority of trials investigated Bifidobacterium (B) and Lactobacillus (L) species. Expert opinion: The m...
