TL;DR: In this paper, the axially symmetric elasticity problem with a straight fiber imbedded into an infinite matrix is considered, and the numerical results include the stresses along the bonded interface and the strain energy release rate per unit fracture area resulting from the axial propagation of the cracks.

Abstract: Data from focal mechanism solutions obtained by different authors and those of 8 fault-plane solutions found in this study have been used to search for the distribution of the main stress axes in Iran. For this purpose, the area has been divided into three regions as southern, central and northern Iran. The results indicate that the characteristics of the motion at the foci are different in each of the three regions. — By examining the B axes in south Iranian earthquakes, direction of tectonic motion has been obtained as N 66°E. Since the maximum and intermediate stress axes are nearly horizontal, it is concluded that focal movements in this region are of reverse fault type. Thus, there is a similarity between recent crustal movements and those occurring during Alpine orogeny which is in the form of an overthrusting to the southwest. — In central Iran earthquakes however, tension is predominant, and, therefore, in this region faultings are dip-slip normal or strike-slip, and the horizontal components of displacements are dextral. The mean direction of maximum tension axes is nearly perpendicular to the central Iranian complexes. — It is deduced from north Iranian shocks that, in this region, the earthquakes studied are of nearly almost pressural type, and horizontal components of the oblique displacements in foci are sinistral.

TL;DR: An archeological survey of the upper Tigris-Euphrates basin in Turkish Mesopotamia revealed a very early phase farming village and a nearby developed phase Farming village.
Abstract: An archeological survey of the upper Tigris-Euphrates basin in Turkish Mesopotamia revealed a very early phase farming village and a nearby developed phase farming village. Late prehistoric developments in this region are critical to understanding of the beginnings of trade and metallurgy.

TL;DR: According to the evaluation of the PLNS total score, patient learning needs vary depending on age, gender, occupation, level of education, the departments at which the respondent is treated, and whether the respondents is the patient him/herself or the caregiver.
Abstract: Objectives This study was designed as a descriptive trial aimed at identifying learning needs of patients hospitalized at a university hospital and understanding whether these learning needs vary depending on certain patient characteristics. Methods The study sample consisted of 1190 patients/caregivers hospitalized at all departments except for the psychiatry clinic, who were planned to be discharged from the hospital. Data were collected using Patient Information Form and the Patient Learning Needs Scale (PLNS). Results The evaluation of responses to the PLNS and its subscales revealed that the mean scores were 26.93±10.62 for drugs; 26.15±11.43 for activities of living; 19.78±5.54 for community and follow up; 16.86± 5.47 for feelings related to condition; 34.3±6.99 for treatment and complications; 28.20±7.40 for enhancing quality of life; and 13.64±6.54 for skin care. The PLNS total mean score was 165.95±45.44. Conclusion : According to the evaluation of the PLNS total score, patient learning needs vary depending on age, gender, occupation, level of education, the departments at which the respondent is treated, and whether the respondent is the patient him/herself or the caregiver.

TL;DR: In this article, it is shown that the ripples generated on the bed surface are essentially similar to those of unidirectional flow, but their shapes are reversed as to conform with the flow direction.
Abstract: Configuration of a movable bed changes periodically as the velocity of the reversing flow over it varies in time. Experiments are carried out with bed materials of various densities. It is seen that the ripples generated on the bed surface are essentially similar to those of unidirectional flow, but their shapes are reversed as to conform with the flow direction. The resistance of such a bed depends on grain Froude number and grain Reynolds number. The importance of viscosity in determining the resistance is emphasized. The resistance function at the instant of peak velocity is determined for the conditions of movable-bed tidal models. Ripple friction factor is found not to depend on the depth and the period of the flow in the ranges used in the experiments. Relationships determining the resistance of a movable bed for tidal model conditions are presented.

TL;DR: Despite a minor amputation, the functional outcome of limb salvage with an infrageniculate bypass is favorable and diabetes does not seem to have negative effect on the functional outcomes and Quality of Life.
Abstract: UNLABELLED Objective : To evaluate the quality of life in patients, who had their limbs salvaged with an infrageniculate bypass and minor amputation in the long term and to see if diabetics are prone to worse results. METHODS The patients with limb salvage following an infrageniculate bypass and minor amputation were asked to complete Short Form 36 at the last follow-up visit. The mean scores in diabetic and non-diabetic population were compared to each other .The mean follow-up period was 58±8 months. Results : Of 142 patients, 40 patients were eligible to be included in the study. 33 (82.5%) patients were male and 7 (17.5%) patients were female. The mean age at the time of intervention was 57±14 (33-83) years. The mean scores for eight domains of SF-36 evaluation ranged from 44 to 67 out of 100. There were no significant differences concerning the mean scores of any dimension between the diabetic and non-diabetic group. Conclusion : Despite a minor amputation, the functional outcome of limb salvage with an infrageniculate bypass is favorable and diabetes does not seem to have negative effect on the functional outcome and Quality of Life.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the erythropoietic stimulation in chemoreceptor-denervated rabbits intermittently exposed to pressures of 400-410 mm Hg, for a total of 120-150 hours, was of a far greater magnitude than in the controls similarly treated.
Abstract: There is considerable evidence in literature concerning the stimulation of erythropoietin production in response to hypoxic hypoxia, as induced by exposure to simulated altitude (Stohlman and Brecher, 1957 and 1959; Jacobson et al., 1959; Gordon et al., 1959; Mirand et al., 1959). The increased erythropoietin in plasma is assumed to be responsible for the well-known acceleration of erythropoiesis under conditions of chronic and intermittent acute hypoxia. Some years ago, Grant (1951) and Terzioglu et al. (1955) demonstrated that the erythropoietic stimulation in chemoreceptor-denervated rabbits intermittently exposed to pressures of 400-410 mm Hg, for a total of 120-150 hours, was of a far greater magnitude than in the controls similarly treated. In order to investigate whether the greater erythropoietic response of the chemoreceptor-denervated animals was due to an increase in erythropoietin production, we undertook the present study where the plasma erythropoietic activity of the control and che...
