TL;DR: Pathergy test was positive in 6/18 and 5/19 carried HLA-B5, suggesting that the previously established association of HLA -B5 in Behçet's syndrome is mainly true for hospital based populations, and was less commonly positive in milder disease.
Abstract: We conducted a field survey to establish the prevalence of Behcet's syndrome among all the inhabitants aged 10 years or older in a village in northern Turkey. The prevalence of Behcet's syndrome was 19/5,131. There were 13 females and 6 males. None had eye involvement. Pathergy test was positive in 6/18 (33%) and 5/19 carried HLA-B5 (26%), suggesting that the previously established association of HLA-B5 in Behcet's syndrome is mainly true for hospital based populations. Moreover, the pathergy test was less commonly positive in milder disease.

TL;DR: In this paper, the axial ligands of dichloro[tetra(15-crown-5)phthalocyaninato]silicon or -tin have been converted into dihydroxy derivatives by hydrolysis in aqueous Et3N.
Abstract: Group-IV-A phthalocyanines with four crown ether substituents have been prepared from 4′,5′-dicyanobenzo(15-crown-5), 4′,5′-diiminoisoindolino(15-crown-5), or metal-free phthalocyanine and the corresponding metal salts. The axial ligands of dichloro[tetra(15-crown-5)phthalocyaninato]silicon or -tin have been converted into dihydroxy derivatives by hydrolysis in aqueous Et3N. The catalytic effect of H2O-free CaC12 in quinoline is used for the polycondensation of dihydroxysilicon-phthalocyanine to cofacially arrayed polymers. The thermal stability of group-IV-A-metal phthalocyanines is confirmed by the higher initial decomposition points (290–440°) compared to those of the corresponding transition-metal phthalocyanines.

TL;DR: It is concluded that amyloidosis associated with Behçet's disease is a secondary AA amyloidsosis occurring as an intrinsic manifestation of Behçett's disease.
Abstract: The association of amyloidosis with Behcet's disease has infrequently been reported in published works. Twenty four such cases have been observed in the world, of which 12 are from Turkey, including eight of ours. In all our eight cases renal biopsy showed amyloidosis of type AA. Behcet's disease of male preponderance, long duration, complete type, multiple organ involvement, and positive skin pathergy test were the main characteristics of all 24 cases of Behcet's disease with amyloidosis. We conclude that amyloidosis associated with Behcet's disease is a secondary AA amyloidosis occurring as an intrinsic manifestation of Behcet's disease.

TL;DR: Results show that cholesterol feeding leads to the stimulation of hepatic lipid peroxidation as well as impairment of glutathione-related enzyme activities in rats.
Abstract: Liver cholesterol, phospholipid, triglyceride, lipid peroxide and glutathione levels as well as glutathione peroxidase and glutathione transferase activities were determined in rats fed a high-cholesterol (2%, w/w), high-cholic acid (0.5%, w/w) diet for 3 months. Cholesterol feeding caused an increase in hepatic cholesterol and triglyceride levels, but no change was observed in hepatic phospholipid levels. In addition, a significant increase in hepatic lipid peroxide levels and a significant decrease in glutathione peroxidase and glutathione transferase activities have been observed. However, hepatic glutathione content after cholesterol feeding remained unchanged. These results show that cholesterol feeding leads to the stimulation of hepatic lipid peroxidation as well as impairment of glutathione-related enzyme activities in rats.

TL;DR: In this article, a low-molecular-weight model polymers with only one phthalocyanine unit (3a, b) were prepared from tetracyanodibenzo-18-crown-6 (2a), where the cyano end groups were partially converted into imido groups during the cyclotetramerization reaction.
Abstract: (18-Crown-6)-bridged phthalocyanine network polymers 4–8 as well as a low-molecular-weight model compounds with only one phthalocyanine unit (3a, b) were prepared from tetracyanodibenzo-18-crown-6 (2a). The cyano end groups were partially converted into imido groups during the cyclotetramerization reaction, as detected from the IR spectra. In order to obtain structurally uniform compounds with the same end groups, the C N groups were hydrolyzed into imido groups with conc. sulfuric acid. The metal-free phthalocyanine polymer 4a was obtained by the reaction of 2a either with hydroquinone or PbO in ethylene glycol. The chlorides of Cu(II), Ni(II), and Co(II) were empolyed in order to synthesize the corresponding metal-phthalocyanine polymer, and Fe(CO)5 was used for the preparation of the Fe-analog 7a. For the preparation of the Co-containing polymer 8a ammonium molybdate has to be added as catalyst. The selectivity of 7a for Rb+ was found to be highest in the heterogeneous phase extraction experiments. Polymers 4–8 are also capable of binding silver from aqueous and methanolic solutions.

TL;DR: In this paper, a solution for estimating the time of concentration for a diverging watershed is obtained for estimating a watershed's watershed length, slope, roughness, and rainfall excess.
Abstract: A solution is obtained for estimating the time of concentration for a diverging watershed. A comparison of concentration times for diverging and plane surfaces is made to examine the influence of the degree of divergence for a diverging watershed on the time of concentration. Assuming that the physical characteristics such as watershed length, slope, roughness and rainfall excess are the same, an expression of the ratio of the time of concentration for a diverging surface to that for a plane surface is derived. The expression is solved numerically, and evaluated graphically. The results can be used easily for practical purposes.

TL;DR: A 16-year-old boy came to the authors' dermatology clinic with cutaneous changes on the sun-exposed areas in October 1980 with the diagnosis of Rothmund-Thomson syndrome, but there were some additional, unusual symptoms such as swan neck deformity of the fifth finger and dorsal hyperflexion of the thumb.
Abstract: A 16-year-old boy came to our dermatology clinic with cutaneous changes on the sun-exposed areas in October 1980. On examination, there was a poikilodermatous appearance of the face, ears, neck, forearms, and dorsum of the hands (Figs. 1-3). Dermatoglyphics were absent, and there were palmoplantar keratoses and fissures. The skin of the body was also mildly atrophic and dry. There were atrophic scars on the knees and elbows. Saddle nose was a significant feature (Fig. 1). The patient's hair was normal, but eyebrows and beard Were sparse. His toenails were thick and fragile. Tooth abnormality was also apparent. He was small in stature (152 cm height and 37 kg weight), and his bone age was determined to be 12 by radiologic examination. According to his parents, the first abnormality had begun when he was 2 years old with toenail deformity. Tooth abnormalities developed when he was 7 years old, and the skin changes began to occur in the following years. All these symptoms led us to make the diagnosis of Rothmund-Thomson syndrome, but there were some additional, unusual symptoms such as swan neck deformity of the fifth finger (Fig. 2) and dorsal hyperflexion of the thumb. The most noticeable additional symptom was numerous, yellowish papules localized on the extremities. They were small (1-5 mm), hard, dome-shaped papules (Figs. 3, 4).
