TL;DR: A novel optimal multilevel thresholding algorithm for histogram-based image segmentation is presented and an improved variant of PSO, a relatively recently introduced stochastic optimization strategy, is presented.
Abstract: A novel optimal multilevel thresholding algorithm for histogram-based image segmentation is presented in this paper. The proposed algorithm presents an improved variant of PSO, a relatively recently introduced stochastic optimization strategy. This hybrid approach employs both cooperative learning and comprehensive learning along with some additional modifications. Cooperative learning is employed to overcome the ''curse of dimensionality'' by decomposing a high-dimensional swarm into several one-dimensional swarms. The comprehensive learning is then employed to discourage premature convergence in each one-dimensional swarm. The capability of this hybrid PSO (called HCOCLPSO) is further enhanced by cloning of fitter particles, at the expense of worst particles, determined on the basis of their fitness values. The performance of HCOCLPSO algorithm is evaluated vis-a-vis an improved GA-based algorithm [Yin, P.-Y., (1999). A fast scheme for optimal thresholding using genetic algorithms. Signal Processing 72, 85-95], Gaussian-smoothing method [Lim, Y. K., & Lee, S. U., (1990). On the color image segmentation algorithm based on the thresholding and the fuzzy c-means techniques. Pattern recognition. 23, 935-952; Tsai, D. M. (1995). A fast thresholding selection procedure for multimodal and unimodal histograms. Pattern Recognition Letters 16, 653-666] and symmetry/duality method [Yin, P. Y., & Chen, L. H., (1993). New method for multilevel thresholding using the symmetry and duality of the histogram. Journal of Electronics and Imaging 2, 337-344] for several benchmark images and HCOCLPSO outperforms each of these algorithms for each such image.

TL;DR: In this article, a review of the recent developments of encapsulation technology by drying is presented, including spray drying, freeze drying, and fluidized bed coating, which can achieve excellent properties of protection, stabilization, solubility and controlled release of the bioactive compounds.
Abstract: Drying is an important process parameter for preservation of food components and it is widely applicable in food sectors. Nowadays, encapsulation by drying technology is of growing interest to provide many useful effects in food industry. Encapsulation of several drying techniques (spray drying, freeze drying, and fluidized bed coating) is a challenge to incorporate food component, antioxidant, colorant, cells and enzymes in powder form in food products. By drying, encapsulation achieves excellent properties of protection, stabilization, solubility and controlled release of the bioactive compounds. There are many reasons to apply encapsulation technology by drying, so recent developments of encapsulation are discussed in this review. Controlled release of food component at the right place at right time is a key functionality that can be provided by encapsulation. Drying improves effectiveness of food additives, broadens the application range of food ingredients, enhances shelf life of the food and lowers cost of the food products.

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the multiplicative semigroup ℤn and its subgroup Un is complete if and only if n = 1,2,4,p or 2p, where p is a Fermat prime.
Abstract: The undirected power graph G(S) of a semigroup S is an undirected graph whose vertex set is S and two vertices a,b∈S are adjacent if and only if a≠b and am=b or bm=a for some positive integer m. In this paper we characterize the class of semigroups S for which G(S) is connected or complete. As a consequence we prove that G(G) is connected for any finite group G and G(G) is complete if and only if G is a cyclic group of order 1 or pm. Particular attention is given to the multiplicative semigroup ℤn and its subgroup Un, where G(Un) is a major component of G(ℤn). It is proved that G(Un) is complete if and only if n=1,2,4,p or 2p, where p is a Fermat prime. In general, we compute the number of edges of G(G) for a finite group G and apply this result to determine the values of n for which G(Un) is planar. Finally we show that for any cyclic group of order greater than or equal to 3, G(G) is Hamiltonian and list some values of n for which G(Un) has no Hamiltonian cycle.

TL;DR: The superior piezoelectric energy harvester ability of a non-electrically poled Fe-doped reduced graphene oxide (Fe-RGO)/poly(vinylidene fluoride) nanocomposite film prepared through a simple solution casting technique that favors the nucleation and stabilization of polar γ-phase is reported.
Abstract: In this work, we report the superior piezoelectric energy harvester ability of a non-electrically poled Fe-doped reduced graphene oxide (Fe-RGO)/poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) nanocomposite film prepared through a simple solution casting technique that favors the nucleation and stabilization of ≈99% relative proportion of polar γ-phase. The piezoelectric energy harvester was made with non-electrically poled Fe-RGO/PVDF nanocomposite film that gives an open circuit output voltage and short circuit current up to 5.1 V and 0.254 μA by repetitive human finger imparting. The improvement of the output performance is influenced by the generation of the electroactive polar γ-phase in the PVDF, due to the electrostatic interactions among the –CH2–/–CF2– dipoles of PVDF and the delocalized π-electrons and remaining oxygen functionalities of Fe-doped RGO via ion-dipole and/or hydrogen bonding interactions. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) confirmed the nucleation of the polar γ-phase of PVDF by electrostatic interactions and Raman spectroscopy also supported the molecular interactions between the dipoles of PVDF and the Fe-doped RGO nanosheets. In addition, the nanocomposite shows a higher electrical energy density of ≈0.84 J cm−3 at an electric field of 537 kV cm−1, which indicates that it is appropriate for energy storage capabilities. Moreover, the surface of the prepared nanocomposite film is electrically conducting and shows an electrical conductivity of ≈3.30 × 10−3 S cm−1 at 2 wt% loading of Fe-RGO.
