TL;DR: Although nano-structured lipid carriers and SLNs are based on lipids and surfactants, the effect of these two matrixes to build excipients is also discussed together with their pharmacological significance with novel theranostic approaches, stability and storage.
Abstract: Drug delivery technology has a wide spectrum, which is continuously being upgraded at a stupendous speed. Different fabricated nanoparticles and drugs possessing low solubility and poor pharmacokinetic profiles are the two major substances extensively delivered to target sites. Among the colloidal carriers, nanolipid dispersions (liposomes, deformable liposomes, virosomes, ethosomes, and solid lipid nanoparticles) are ideal delivery systems with the advantages of biodegradation and nontoxicity. Among them, nano-structured lipid carriers and solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) are dominant, which can be modified to exhibit various advantages, compared to liposomes and polymeric nanoparticles. Nano-structured lipid carriers and SLNs are non-biotoxic since they are biodegradable. Besides, they are highly stable. Their (nano-structured lipid carriers and SLNs) morphology, structural characteristics, ingredients used for preparation, techniques for their production, and characterization using various methods are discussed in this review. Also, although nano-structured lipid carriers and SLNs are based on lipids and surfactants, the effect of these two matrixes to build excipients is also discussed together with their pharmacological significance with novel theranostic approaches, stability and storage.

TL;DR: In this paper, a multi-response optimization problem has been developed in search of an optimal parametric combination to yield favorable bead geometry of submerged arc bead-on-plate weldment.
Abstract: A multi-response optimization problem has been developed in search of an optimal parametric combination to yield favorable bead geometry of submerged arc bead-on-plate weldment. Taguchi’s L25 orthogonal array (OA) design and the concept of signal-to-noise ratio (S/N ratio) have been used to derive objective functions to be optimized within experimental domain. The objective functions have been selected in relation to parameters of bead geometry viz. bead width, bead reinforcement, depth of penetration and depth of HAZ. The Taguchi approach followed by Grey relational analysis has been applied to solve this multi-response optimization problem. The significance of the factors on overall output feature of the weldment has also been evaluated quantitatively by analysis of variance method (ANOVA). Optimal result has been verified through additional experiment. This indicates application feasibility of the Grey-based Taguchi technique for continuous improvement in product quality in manufacturing industry.

TL;DR: Various metrics used for validation of predictive QSAR models together with an overview of the application of QSar models in the fields of virtual screening and focused library design for diverse series of compounds with citation of some recent examples are focused on.
Abstract: Quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSARs) have important applications in drug discovery research, environmental fate modeling, property prediction, etc. Validation has been recognized as a very important step for QSAR model development. As one of the important objectives of QSAR modeling is to predict activity/property/toxicity of new chemicals falling within the domain of applicability of the developed models and QSARs are being used for regulatory decisions, checking reliability of the models and confidence of their predictions is a very important aspect, which can be judged during the validation process. One prime application of a statistically significant QSAR model is virtual screening for molecules with improved potency based on the pharmacophoric features and the descriptors appearing in the QSAR model. Validated QSAR models may also be utilized for design of focused libraries which may be subsequently screened for the selection of hits. The present review focuses on various metrics used for validation of predictive QSAR models together with an overview of the application of QSAR models in the fields of virtual screening and focused library design for diverse series of compounds with citation of some recent examples.
