TL;DR: In this paper, the properties of NiMnGe1−nSin (0 ≦ n ≦ 1) were studied in the temperature range from 80 to 1000 K by X-ray and neutron diffraction, magnetometric and DTA measurements.
Abstract: Magnetic and crystallographic nature of the compounds NiMnGe1−nSin (0 ≦ n ≦ 1) are studied in the temperature range from 80 to 1000 K by X-ray and neutron diffraction, magnetometric and DTA measurements. On the basis of these experimental data, crystallographic and magnetic phase diagram are constructed. The compounds have NiTiSi type structure at low temperatures and they transform into the Ni2In type structure at high temperatures. Magnetic and neutron diffraction measurement revealed the existence of three regions of different types of magnetic orderings: helicoidal (0 ≦ n ≦ 0.25), noncollinear (0.3 ≦ n ≦ 0.55), and ferromagnetic (0.6 ≦ n ≦ 1.0). The transition from antiferromagnetic to ferromagnetic phase implies the decrease of the MnMn distances. [Russian Text Ignored].

TL;DR: An experimental study of the actinide nucleus 238U was performed by Coulomb excitation with 208Pb projectiles in this paper, where the E2-transition matrix elements in the ground state band were measured up to spin 28 by comparing experimental Coulomb yields to semiclassical calculations and by analysing Doppler broadened line shapes measured in coincidence with a gamma-ray sum spectrometer.
Abstract: An experimental study of the actinide nucleus 238U was performed by Coulomb excitation with 208Pb projectiles The E2-transition matrix elements in the ground state band were measured up to spin 28 by comparing experimental Coulomb excitation yields to semiclassical calculations and by analysing Doppler broadened line shapes measured in coincidence with a gamma-ray sum spectrometer The E2-metrix elements agree within their errors with the rigid rotor predictions Neither an increase of the collective transition strength at high spin due to centrifugal stretching as predicted by the Rotation Vibration Model nor a cutoff in collectively as postulated by the Interacting Boson Model is observed The excitation energies in the ground state band show the presence of an aligned angular momentum of 5 at spin 30 which can be explained by a crossing of an aligned band at ω ≈ 250 keV The octupole band shows a constant angular momentum alignment of 3 (above spin 7) and no indication of a bandcrossing

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors define positive definite forms as a family of forms on a complex linear space, indexed by S. They call a form over (S, E) a form (over (S and E).
Abstract: 1. Positive definite forms. Suppose S is an involution semigroup and E is a complex linear space. Let o9: S • 2 1 5 be a map such that for every sES ~o(s , . , ) is a (hermitian) bilinear form. We call ~o simply a form (over (S, E)) although it is in fact a family of forms on E, indexed by S. We will see a little while later that we are not far f rom being precise at this point. We say that a form 09 is positive definite (in short: PD) if for all finite sequences sl . . . . . s,E S and f l . . . . . f , EE

TL;DR: The endocrine-like cells (ELC), which together with nerve endings form the neuroepithelial bodies, are located on primary and secondary septa in the non-ciliated epithelium of the lung of Hyla arborea.
Abstract: The endocrine-like cells (ELC), which together with nerve endings form the neuroepithelial bodies, are located on primary and secondary septa in the non-ciliated epithelium of the lung of Hyla arborea. ELC protrude markedly toward the lumen of the lung and are surrounded by pneumocytes, which separate ELC from the lumen by thin cytoplasmic processes. ELC possess a light cytoplasm containing two types of granules: (i) numerous small granules, 50–110 nm in diameter, and (ii) single large granules, 290–860 nm in diameter. Numerous nerve fibers, often forming synaptic junctions, can be observed in contact with ELC.

TL;DR: In this article, a canonical perturbation technique was used to investigate a nearly half-filled generalized Hubbard Hamiltonian and the strong intraatomic correlation limit, and the dependence of the critical W/U ratio for metal-nonmetal transition on the interatomic exchange was estimated.
Abstract: A canonical perturbation technique is used to investigate a nearly half-filled nondegenerate generalized Hubbard Hamiltonian a t the strong intraatomic correlation limit. Quasiparticle state and the total energy for various magnetic orderings are obtained using the Green function method with the moment-conserving decoupling scheme. A ground state magnetic phase diagram with antiferromagnetic, ferromagnetic, and mixed phases is derived and compared to existing results. The dependence of the critical W/U ratio for metal-nonmetal transition on the interatomic exchange is estimated.

TL;DR: In this article, the Niepolomice Forest in southern Poland and the Colstrip area in southeast Montana, U.S.A., were analyzed for both organismic and system level indicators and monitors for SO, trace elements, and fluoride pollution originating in nearby coal-fired industrial processes.
Abstract: Bioindication of air pollution effects has received considerable attention in recent years. It has been almost entirely focused on individual species and relatively little notice has been given to ecosystem level process and function monitors. Longterm research projects in the Niepolomice Forest in southern Poland and the Colstrip area in southeast Montana, U.S.A., were analyzed for both organismic and system level indicators and monitors for SO, trace elements, and fluoride pollution originating in nearby coal-fired industrial processes. Species of lichens exhibited changes in morphology and survival and pine species exhibited pollutant accumulation in needles at both sites. Declines in Scotch pine growth in Poland of up to 20% were compared with declines in western wheatgrass rhizone biomass in Montana to illustrate system wide effects on primary productivity. Directly observable declines in decomposition rate were noted for both sites at higher pollution levels and tied to system wide occurrences of nutrient deficiency and toxicant buildup in soil pools. Pollutant increases in deer antler composition, changes in grasshopper dietary patterns, and lichen density and health were postulated to have system level implications as well.

TL;DR: In this paper, X-ray diffraction studies of the processes of ordering of atoms in the Heusler alloys B2MnA1 (B = Cu, Ni, Co, Pd, Pt) indicate that these transitions proceed according to the following scheme.
Abstract: X-rays diffraction studies of the processes of ordering of atoms in the Heusler alloys B2MnA1 (B = Cu, Ni, Co, Pd, Pt) indicate that these transitions proceed according to the following scheme: i.e. two transitions occure: from the structure L21 to B2 and from the structure B2 to A2. The values of the critical temperatures of the above transitions obtained experimentally are in sufficient agreement with the theoretical results. There is also a agreement between the measured and calculated values of the lattice constants of the investigated alloys. [Russian Text Ignored].

TL;DR: The walls of the arteries, veins, and capillaries to be distinguished with accuracy on the basis of the microscopic structure, as well as the relationship between the blood vessels and the surrounding tissues to be evaluated are distinguished.
Abstract: Publisher Summary Histological-histochemical techniques and injection of the blood vessels have been used in morphological studies of the circulatory system, especially in angiological examinations. Histological and histochemical techniques of staining or impregnating the tissue elements of the vessels, showing the presence of biologically active substances within their walls or rendering visible the morphotic blood components lying in the lumen, have made it possible to inspect the network of the vascular bed in sections of the organ or tissue that is examined in the light microscope (LM) or the transmission electron microscope (TEM). When these techniques are used, the preparations should be thin. These fine sections enable the walls of the arteries, veins, and capillaries to be distinguished with accuracy on the basis of the microscopic structure, as well as the relationship between the blood vessels and the surrounding tissues to be evaluated. It is not an easy task to prepare and present the network of blood vessels studied.

TL;DR: In this article, the magnetic and crystallographic properties of the compounds NiMn1−tTitGe (0 ≦ t ≦ 1) are studied by X-ray and neutron diffraction and magnetometric measurements.
Abstract: The magnetic and crystallographic nature of the compounds NiMn1−tTitGe (0 ≦ t ≦ 1) are studied by X-ray and neutron diffraction and magnetometric measurements. It is shown that the solid solutions arise for 0 ≦ t ≦ 1, with the crystal structure of the NiTiSi type. A magnetic phase diagram is constructed: for 0 ≦ t ≦ 0.1 helicoidal order exists, for 0.15 ≦ t ≦ 0.65 a noncolinear one. NiTiGe is Pauli paramagnetic. The interpretation of the results is performed in terms of a model proposed by Jaccarino and Walker. [Russian Text Ignored].

TL;DR: In this article, an attempt is made to analyse the kinetics of the first order structural phase transitions on the basis of the Landau-Ginzburg equation, and two simple solutions are proposed: one in the form of one-dimensional solitary wave which can be considered as a planar interface separating two phases and travelling along direction normal to the interface.
Abstract: An attempt is made to analyse the kinetics of the first order structural phase transitions on the basis of the Landau-Ginzburg equation. Two simple solutions are proposed: One in the form of one-dimensional solitary wave which can be considered as a planar interface separating two phases and travelling along direction normal to the interface. Any direction of propagation is possible. The other solution has a form of a onedimensional kink-antikink couple which under supercooling conditions reveals properties of a critical nucleus. A short discussion of the free energy density form for one- and multidimensional order parameters, and of the symmetry of the quadratic gradient term is included.

TL;DR: Goralczyk and Waligora as mentioned in this paper derived the simplified form of an integral adsorption isotherm based on the Butler's equation and derived satisfactorily the surface behavior of the solutions containing equimolar amounts of anionic and cationic surfactants with various surface ativity only within the range of great surface pressures.
Abstract: It was stated that the simplified form of an integral adsorption isotherm based on the Butler's equation and derived previously (D. Goralczyk and B. Waligora J. Colloid Interface Sci. 82, 1 (1981)), describes satisfactorily the surface behavior of the solutions containing equimolar amounts of anionic and cationic surfactants with various surface ativity only within the range of great surface pressures. On the other hand, in the case of a small degree of surface coverage, deviation appear due to the presence of excess of ions with longer alkyl chain in the mixed adsorption film. The values of ΔG of adsorption for anionic—cationic surfactants are within the limits of experimental error equal to the sum of the values characteristic for single ionic substances being components of the mixture. The presence of adsorption film influences on the water structure in the surface layer which causes nonzero values of ΔGH2O.

TL;DR: The present day logic takes its origin from too many sources to be justified univocally and exhaustively by referring merely to the particular ones as discussed by the authors, and it is quite natural that so much attention has been paid to the motivation of logic through the philosophical analysis of our knowledge of the external world including the realm of mathematical entities.
Abstract: The present day logic takes its origin from too many sources to be justified univocally and exhaustively by referring merely to the particular ones. Mathematics and the foundational studies, singled out as the only major root of logic, prove to be inadequate for the purpose of the justification of our reasoning. Therefore it is quite natural that so much attention has been also paid to the motivation of logic through the philosophical analysis of our knowledge of the external world including the realm of mathematical entities. The third major root of logic lies in the sphere of our intuition. The basic problem here is how and to what extent the intuitive notions of reasoning and its linguistic forms are rendered into logic as a formal system.
