TL;DR: In this article, the Butler-type adsorption isotherm for some alkylammonium salts, sodium alkylsulfonates, and AOT (at the air-water interface) were estimated.
Abstract: Parameters of the Butler-type adsorption isotherm for some alkylammonium salts, sodium alkylsulfonates, and AOT (at the air-water interface) were estimated. The bulk mixing ratios of cationic ad anionic surfactants corresponding to their equimolar surface mixtures were then calculated both for the absence and the presence of inorganic salt. The surface mixing ratios of the components for three equimolar bulk mixtures in the excess of NaBr were also presented.

TL;DR: Electron-diffraction patterns, crystal projections and the above unit-cell data make them extremely similar to the orthorhombic yolkplatelet crystals known for amphibians and teleosts, and supports the view that the general architecture of yolk platelets has been conserved for nearly 400 million years.
Abstract: Yolk-platelet crystals in Amia calva L., Lepisosteus osseus (L.) and Polypterus bichir have orthorhombic features with unit-cell dimensions a= 8.3...8.8 nm, b= 16.4...16.9 nm and c= 18.6...19.8 nm as determined in electron-diffraction patterns of fixed, epoxy-resin embedded and thinsectioned material. Electron-diffraction patterns, crystal projections and the above unit-cell data make them extremely similar to the orthorhombic yolkplatelet crystals known for amphibians and teleosts. This observation fills a gap in yolk-platelet research and supports the view that the general architecture of yolk platelets has been conserved for nearly 400 million years. It follows that the peculiar platelet architecture itself has physiological significance.

TL;DR: The development of the lung in larvae of Salamandra salamandra L. was studied at different developmental stages: from the youngest forms to those entering the metamorphosis as mentioned in this paper, and the entire developmental process was divided into three stages.
Abstract: The development of the lung in larvae of Salamandra salamandra L. was studied at different developmental stages: from the youngest forms to those entering the metamorphosis. The entire developmental process was divided into three stages. At stage I the lung is filled with fluid and lined by undifferentiated cells. Its wall contains the unramified pulmonary artery and vein. Numerous lamellar and electron dense bodies at different stages of transformation occur inside the lung. At stage II the lung is filled with air and the lining cells start to differentiate: those located along the pulmonary vein change thier shape into a columnar form and start to transform into the ciliated cells. The pulmonary wall contains numerous capillaries separated from the lumen of the lung by a thick epithelial layer. A monolayer film appears at the luminal surface of the alveolar lining layer. At stage III ciliogenesis begins in cells located along the pulmonary artery. The internal surface of the lung remains smooth, with the exception of the pulmonary artery and vein that protrude toward the lumen of the lung, together with the accompanying epithelium. Goblet cells appear in the ciliated epithelium and in the deeper layers of the latter occasional endocrine-like cells can be found. The remaining lung surface is lined by a respiratory epithelium composed of a single type of pneumocytes. The capillaries protrude toward the lumen of the lung and the meshes of capillary network are occupied by cell bodies of pneumocytes. A typical air-blood barrier is in the process of being formed.

TL;DR: A possible role of the heterocellular gap junctions in Acerentomon ovary is the coordination of development of the oocyte and CPCs.
Abstract: Each oocyte in the ovary of Acerentomon is surrounded by a layer of follicle cells (FC) and possesses a group of specialized, so-called chorion-producing cells (CPC). The FCs lying immediately under the CPCs form processes which make contact with the oocyte. Gap junctions occur at the points of contact between the oolemma and the membrane of the processes. A possible role of the heterocellular gap junctions in Acerentomon ovary is the coordination of development of the oocyte and CPCs.

TL;DR: In this article, a two-step sequence involving a primary inter-molecular redox process and a consecutive thermal chain process was shown to lead to the formation of octacyanotungstate(IV) as the main reaction product, and the initial quantum yields, φ0, are practically constant for the entire pH range and equal to 0.81±0.05 mole/Einstein.
Abstract: The reactions of monochromatically photolyzed aqueous [W(CN)8]3− solutions in the pH range 1–13 were found to consist of a two-step sequence involving a primary inter-molecular redox process and a consecutive thermal chain process, both leading to the formation of octacyanotungstate(IV) as the main reaction product. The initial quantum yields, φ0, are practically constant for the entire pH range and equal to 0.81±0.05 mole/Einstein. The final quantum yields, φf, for both neutral and alkaline solution, were found to be greater than 1, having also an approximately constant value of 3.42±0.25. The empirical rate law for the post-irradiation reaction under excess of [W(CN)8]3− and at constant pH is given by: rate = kobs[R]2[W(CN) 8 4− ]−2 where R is a one-electron reductant. Kinetic data suggest a mechanism of the Haber-Weiss type for the thermal reduction of [W(CN)8]3− by H2O2.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors observed optical resonances with subnatural linewidth as narrow as 2.6 MHz with excellent signal-to-noise ratio in the Na{D}_{1}$ line (natural width 10 MHz) in a polarization spectroscopy experiment.
Abstract: Optical resonances with subnatural linewidth as narrow as 2.6 MHz have been observed with excellent signal-to-noise ratio in the Na ${D}_{1}$ line (natural width 10 MHz) in a polarization spectroscopy experiment. The new, subnatural resonances arise from Zeeman coherences which are produced by a strong probe beam and destroyed by a velocity-selective optical Hanle effect.

TL;DR: This chapter discusses the origins and more significant advances in the method of Lindenbaum algebras and reviews that the interpretation of the algebra of logic in sentential algorithm can clearly be modified to avoid the replacement of logical identity by another equivalence relation.
Abstract: Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the origins and more significant advances in the method of Lindenbaum algebras. The Lindenbaum algebras and the Lindenbaum extension lemma play a fundamental role in contemporary model theory and logical semantics. The method of Lindenbaum algebras was developed in the academic year 1926–27. The original Lindenbaum method was applied to the propositional calculi. In the late 40s and the early 50s, many generalizations of Lindenbaum's construction were developed and subsequently used in the first order logic. The chapter also reviews that the interpretation of the algebra of logic in sentential algorithm can clearly be modified to avoid the replacement of logical identity by another equivalence relation.

TL;DR: In the early embryo of Tetrodontophora bielanensis nuage granules occur in two different locations: in areas where the invaginating cleavage furrows have pushed fragments of the oosome into the yolk mass, and in the Oosome proper.
Abstract: In the early embryo of Tetrodontophora bielanensis (up to the stage of 500 blastomeres) nuage granules occur in two different locations: (1) in areas where the invaginating cleavage furrows have pushed fragments of the oosome into the yolk mass, and (2) in the oosome proper. In the first areas the granules are few in number and certain cells that have enclosed them in their cytoplasm eventually degenerate. The remaining cells arising in these areas are devoid of any nuage granules and differentiate into yolk cells. A different situation is observed in the other areas, where certain cells resulting from tangential divisions of the superficial blastomeres contain many nuage granules and represent primordial germ cells (PGCs). The incipient PGCs differ from the other cells of the embryo in possessing nuage granules associated with mitochondria and in lacking any annulate lamellae.

TL;DR: No change in the response rate or threshold for brain stimulation was found and the question was raised whether factors accompanying the different paradoxical sleep deprivation techniques rather than paradoxicalSleep deprivation itself were responsible for these behavioral differences.
Abstract: Effects of paradoxical sleep deprivation upon intracranial self-stimulation behavior were studied. After stable response rates to electrical brain reward were obtained, rats were assigned to an experimental group in which they were deprived of paradoxical sleep with the pendulum technique for 72 h, to a pendulum control group and to a home-cage control group. In baseline, postdeprivation, and postrecovery sessions, rate-intensity functions for intracranial self-stimulation were determined. Partially in contrast to the literature, no change in the response rate or threshold for brain stimulation was found. The question was raised whether factors accompanying the different paradoxical sleep deprivation techniques rather than paradoxical sleep deprivation itself were responsible for these behavioral differences.

TL;DR: In this article, the results of a preliminary study of the leaching behavior of silver particles in the aqueous NH 3 -(NH 4 ) 2 SO 4 -O 2 system are reported.
Abstract: The results of a preliminary study of the leaching behaviour of silver particles in the aqueous NH 3 -(NH 4 ) 2 SO 4 -O 2 system are reported. The leaching studies were carried out in a stirred reactor under a flowing stream of the reacting gases (O 2 and NH 3 ). In the particle size ranges used and at high stirring speeds the rate of dissolution depended on the concentrations of O 2 , NH 3 and (NH 4 ) 2 SO 4 . A semi-empirical equation describing the kinetics of the process at 303 K was derived.

TL;DR: It is evident that the normal rhythm of steroid secretion, predetermined at the time of follicle excision, was maintained during 24 h in organ culture, although the dynamics of hormone synthesis became altered, although follicles appeared morphologically normal up to 48 h.
Abstract: Rat ovarian follicles were isolated at nine different times during proestrus and cultured for 3 d. During the period of cultivation, estrogen and progestagen secretion was measured. Other follicles were dissected out at the same time periods and analyzed directly for these hormones. The most intense hormone release was observed during the first 24 h in culture. The concentration of steroids secreted in vitro by follicles previously collected on the morning of proestrus was relatively low. The secreted estrogen concentration increased gradually from follicles previously isolated at later times during proestrus, with a maximum at 1800. The peak secretion of progestagens in culture was from follicles isolated at 2000. There was a marked decrease in secretion of both hormones from follicles isolated past their optimal times. The same secretion pattern of estrogens and progestagens was shown by follicles in vitro at 24 h as with similar follicles in vivo, according to their time of isolation. From these results it is evident that the normal rhythm of steroid secretion, predetermined at the time of follicle excision, was maintained during 24 h in organ culture. After a longer period in culture, the dynamics of hormone synthesis became altered, although follicles appeared morphologically normal up to 48 h.

TL;DR: In this article, a rotational diffusion model was proposed for HOAB and the correlation time of the reorientation process was derived by fitting to a uniaxial Rotational Diffusion Model (RDM).
Abstract: Quasielastic neutron scattering (QNS) measurements carried out for heptyloxyazoxybenzene (HOAB) revealed the existence of fast molecular reorientation in the nematic and smectic C phases. The correlation time of this process, derived by fitting to a uniaxial rotational diffusion model, is of order of 10–20 ps in both liquid crystal phases. An explanation of the reasons for the disagreement between the correlation time values obtained by methods based on QNS and dielectric relaxation in the microwave region is suggested.
