TL;DR: The critical factors of germanosilicate zeolites required for application of the ADOR protocol are discussed and the mechanism of hydrolysis, organisation and condensation to form newZeolites starting from zeolite UTL is described.
Abstract: A novel methodology, called ADOR (assembly–disassembly–organisation–reassembly), for the synthesis of zeolites is reviewed here in detail. The ADOR mechanism stems from the fact that certain chemical weakness against a stimulus may be present in a zeolite framework, which can then be utilized for the preparation of new solids through successive manipulation of the material. In this review, we discuss the critical factors of germanosilicate zeolites required for application of the ADOR protocol and describe the mechanism of hydrolysis, organisation and condensation to form new zeolites starting from zeolite UTL. Last but not least, we discuss the potential of this methodology to form other zeolites and the prospects for future investigations.

TL;DR: The PCR-based methodology applied to multiple-locus variable numbers of tandem repeat (VNTR) analysis was recently shown to be a useful technique for the molecular typing of clinical isolates of several bacterial species and it was shown that the method allows typing of S. aureus strains with the discriminatory power and reproducibility of pulsed-field gel electrophoresis.
Abstract: The PCR-based methodology applied to multiple-locus variable numbers of tandem repeat (VNTR) analysis was recently shown to be a useful technique for the molecular typing of clinical isolates of several bacterial species. We have adopted this method for the molecular typing of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Five staphylococcal VNTR loci (sdr, clfA, clfB, ssp, and spa) were subjected to analysis, and it was shown that the method allows typing of S. aureus strains with the discriminatory power and reproducibility of pulsed-field gel electrophoresis while at the same time being rapid and applicable to analysis of large numbers of isolates.

TL;DR: It is concluded that cidofovir may be useful against adenovirus after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation but additional studies are needed.
Abstract: Adenovirus is an important cause of morbidity and mortality after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and there is no established therapy. Cidofovir has in vitro efficacy against adenovirus. We performed a retrospective analysis of 45 patients treated with cidofovir for adenovirus from 10 centers. In total, 16 patients had definite adenovirus disease, 13 probable disease, and 16 asymptomatic infections. A total of 31 (69%) patients were successfully treated with cidofovir, 10 failed, and four were not evaluable owing to early death from other causes. Cidofovir therapy was successful in 10 patients with adenovirus disease, 10 patients with probable disease, and in 10 patients with asymptomatic infections. The overall survival at 28 days and 6 months after initiation of cidofovir therapy was 76 and 46%, respectively. Of the patients, 18 developed toxicity associated with cidofovir: 14 developed renal toxicity and four other types of toxicities. We conclude that cidofovir may be useful against adenovirus after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation but additional studies are needed.

TL;DR: The expected recoil spectra for dark matter-electron scattering in argon and, under the assumption of momentum-independent scattering, improve upon existing limits from XENON10 for dark-matter particles with masses between 30 and 100 MeV/c^{2}.
Abstract: We present new constraints on sub-GeV dark-matter particles scattering off electrons based on 6780.0 kg d of data collected with the DarkSide-50 dual-phase argon time projection chamber. This analysis uses electroluminescence signals due to ionized electrons extracted from the liquid argon target. The detector has a very high trigger probability for these signals, allowing for an analysis threshold of three extracted electrons, or approximately 0.05 keVee. We calculate the expected recoil spectra for dark matter-electron scattering in argon and, under the assumption of momentum-independent scattering, improve upon existing limits from XENON10 for dark-matter particles with masses between 30 and 100 MeV/c^{2}.
