21 Jul 2013TL;DR: In this article, a case study of DSM implementation on electricity distribution for IIT Roorkee campus is carried out using non-conventional optimization technique using non conventional optimization technique.
Abstract: Demand side management (DSM) implementation is rising in Indian power sector for the large commercial and industrial customers. Introduction of time of day (TOD) tariff encouraged them to use electricity efficiently. But, residential customers are not exposed to TOD tariff structure so far in India. This makes inefficient use of electricity by residential customers. Non existence of DSM incentives for residential customers leads to inefficient utilization of devices. This paper mainly focuses on the importance of DSM for residential customers that help distribution utilities to reduce peak load and their operational cost. A case study of DSM implementation on electricity distribution for IIT Roorkee campus is carried out using non conventional optimization technique. This is an eye opening for Indian utilities which demonstrates their inefficiency due to non support of residential customers. Scenario of DSM would have been different if utility gives more attention to TOD tariff implementation for residential customers too.

TL;DR: In this article, a hybrid scheme using trigonometric cubic B-spline basis functions with differential quadrature method for solving nonlinear Schrodinger equation in both one and two dimensions.
Abstract: The present study aims to develop a hybrid scheme using trigonometric cubic B-spline basis functions with differential quadrature method for solving nonlinear Schrodinger equation in both one and two dimensions. This method reduces the nonlinear equation into a set of ordinary differential equations which can be further solved by the modified form of Ruge–Kutta method. This proposed method has been applied to this equation using two different approaches and also has been tested for proficiency on seven numerical examples. The obtained numerical results found to be synonymous when related with the exact solution. The obtained numerical results are also in good agreement with the results available in the literature. Comparison of numerical and the exact solution is depicted in the form of figures and tables.

TL;DR: In this article, a single phase spinel ZCFO was synthesized using exploding wire technique (EWT) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) data confirmed the formation of spinel zinc-copper ferrite, which is in good agreement with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), UV-Vis, and Raman spectroscopic analyses.
Abstract: Abstract We have synthesized zinc-copper ferrite (ZCFO) employing exploding wire technique (EWT). The X-ray diffraction (XRD) data confirm the formation of single phase spinel ZCFO, which is in good agreement with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), UV-Vis, and Raman spectroscopic analyses. It is also clearly seen in the SEM micrographs that the grains in ZCFO ferrite are very rough, which allows adsorption of gas like oxygen and therefore, the material can behave as active sensing surface. The size range of the grains in prepared sample is of 200 nm to 500 nm. The FT-IR spectrum of the nanocomposite consists of two broad bands, one at 580.4 cm−1 due to M–O stretching mode at the tetrahedral site and the other at 400.7 cm−1 due to M–O stretching mode at the octahedral site. The nanoparticles show a UV-Vis absorption band in the wavelength region of 400 nm to 700 nm. The energy band gap for the prepared nanomaterial was estimated to be 3.16 eV. Thus, the ferrite nanocomposite prepared by EWT is optically active. According to present literature, Raman spectroscopy study on zinc-copper ferrite system has not been reported till date. By suitable attributing various Raman modes, we have further confirmed the formation of ZCFO nanophase through the present novel approach.

TL;DR: Computed/experimental UV-vis absorption/emission studies reveal the creation of new species: zwitterion (Z*) and anion (A*) in the excited state (S1) due to excited state intramolecular and intermolecular proton transfer (ESI(ra)PT and ESI(er)PT).
Abstract: The motivation of the present work is to understand the optical, chemical, and electrical aspects of the proton transfer mechanism of indole (I) and some carbonyl based indole derivatives: indole-3-carboxaldehyde (I3C) and indole-7-carboxaldehyde (I7C) for both powder form and their liquid solution. Structural information for indole derivatives (isolated molecule and in solution) is obtained with density functional theory (DFT) and time dependent DFT (TD-DFT) methods. Calculated transition energies are used to generate UV–vis, FTIR, Raman, and NMR spectra which are later verified with the experimental spectra. The occurrence of different conformers [cis (Nc), trans (Nt), and zwitterion (Z*)] have been interpreted by Mulliken charge, natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis, and polarization versus electric field (P-E loop) studies. 1H and 13C NMR and molecular vibrational frequencies of the fundamental modes established the stability of Nc due to the presence of intramolecular hydrogen bonding (IHB) in the gro...
