TL;DR: Ceramide 2 and palmitic acid played an important role in the formulation and promotes the drug permeation through stratum corneum and dermis and produces an optimum formulation.
Abstract: Context: Aceclofenac is an important NSAID; however, it causes GI disturbances whereas employing transdermal route would require permeation enhancer for systemic application, thereby causing skin damage. Ceramide 2 is a natural lipid having an important role in the maintenance of skin. Objective: Aceclofenac-loaded nanovesicles of ceramide-2, cholesterol, palmitic acid, and cholesteryl sulfate were formulated and analyzed for physical and biological properties. Materials and method: Film hydration method was used to prepare the vesicles and physical parameters, in vitro drug release and stability were evaluated. Then, they were formulated into gel and evaluated against a commercial formulation (CF) and gel-containing plain drug (CPG) for ex vivo, in vivo drug permeation, and anti-inflammatory activity. Results: The developed formulations showed best physical profile and ACV-1 gave 92.89% drug release in in vitro studies. Ex vivo studies showed drug permeation between 15.32–31.12 μg/cm2, whereas CPG and CF...

TL;DR: It is indicated that benign oral ulceration is a common mucosal disorder in the Indian population and the early and correct diagnosis of these lesions will lead to successful treatment and prevention of the lesions.
Abstract: Aim: Patients with an oral ulcer may present initially to a general physician or a dental practitioner. Majority of the ulcers are benign and resolve spontaneously, but small proportions are malignant. The aim of the present study was to determine the prevalence of benign oral ulcerations in the Indian population. Materials and Methods: A total of 3,244 patients attending the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology during the period from November 2010 to December 2012 with various complaints were examined. Of the patients examined, 1,669 were females and 1,575 were males. Results: A total of 1,444 patients had benign oral ulcers at the time of examination, giving an overall prevalence of 44.5%. Most of the patients presented with recurrent aphthous ulceration (47.4%). Females (57.9%) were more commonly affected than males (42.1%). Patients in the 3 rd and 4 th decade and those of lower socioeconomic status were commonly affected. However, there was no statistically significant difference (P > 0.05) between the oral ulceration and socioeconomic and marital status of the patients. Conclusion: The results of the present study indicate that benign oral ulceration is a common mucosal disorder in the Indian population. Majority of the ulcers require treatment of the underlying cause. The early and correct diagnosis of these lesions will lead to successful treatment and prevention of the lesions.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that methanolic extract of Allium humile leaves significantly prevented myocardial infarct size and markedly reduced LDH and CK-MB release in coronary effluent at dose level of 100 mg/kg body weight as compared with that of standard ramipril.
Abstract: The present study has been designed to investigate the efficacy of various extracts of Allium humile leaves to limit ischaemia and reperfusion-induced myocardial injury in wister albino rats. Various extracts of Allium humile leaves were prepared viz. Pet.ether, chloroform, acetone and methanol. These extracts evaluated for cardioprotective effect. Isolated perfused rat heart was subjected to global ischaemia for 30 min. followed by reperfusion for 120 min. Coronary effluent was analysed for LDH and CK-MB release to assess the degree of cardiac injury. Myocardial infarct size was estimated macroscopically using TTC staining by volume method. The present study demonstrates that methanolic extract of Allium humile leaves significantly prevented myocardial infarct size and markedly reduced LDH and CK-MB release in coronary effluent at dose level of 100 mg/kg body weight as compared with that of standard ramipril (1 mg/kg body weight). These results suggest that cardioprotective effect of methanolic extract of Allium humile was found significant (p < 0.05) as compared to vehicle control group.

TL;DR: Investigation of the role of female reproductive hormones estrogen and progesterone in temporomandibular disorder in female patients suggests role of these hormones as etiological factors for TMD.
Abstract: Aim: The aim of the present study is to investigate the role of female reproductive hormones estrogen and progesterone in temporomandibular disorder (TMD) in female patients. Materials and Methods: Serum estrogen and progesterone levels of 200 female participants who had varying grades of TMD were measured by enzyme immunoassay competition method in the luteal phase of menstrual cycle. Results: Mean serum concentration of estrogen was 302.1 ± 3.16 pg/mL, and the mean serum concentration of progesterone was 1.68 ± 38.3 ng/mL. Mean serum levels of estrogen and progesterone increased with increasing severity of TMD. Conclusion: Increased serum levels of estrogen and progesterone with increased grade of severity of TMD suggest role of these hormones as etiological factors for TMD.
