Abstract: We present a state feedback controller for the Cuk converter. It is shown that a special type of DC-DC switched mode power supply can be handled by the theory of affine-input systems. The controller design is based on the H/sub /spl infin//-theory of nonlinear systems. Using an appropriate exogenous system, the stationary control error can be made arbitrarily small. Furthermore, this design method leads to a simple controller and the stability of the closed loop can be guaranteed in the sense of Lyapunov. The implementation for a laboratory model shows a good tracking and disturbance behavior, which proves the feasibility of the proposed procedure.

Abstract: Hypericin exhibits rather complicated homo- and heteroassociation behavior. Whereas in common polar solvents hypericin dissolves monomolecularly up to concentrations of 10−3 mol/l, the presence of water in these solvents leads to homoassociation. As derived by spectroscopic measurements, these homoassociates exhibit a stacking pattern similar to the one observed for the crystalline material. Tetrahydrofuran seems to be an exception, as it is the only solvent which results in 1,6-dioxo tautomer formation. Heteroassociation of hypericin involves two distinct types of behavior. In the majority of cases, hypericin forms homoassociates which then heteroassociate with the co-solvate to yield stabilized solutions of these homoassociates. Only with human serum albumin a specific heteroassociate is formed. By means of competition experiments it could be established that hypericin is binding to the active site of the IIIA subdomain of the protein.

Abstract: ContextSearch-Based Software Engineering (SBSE) is an emerging discipline that focuses on the application of search-based optimization techniques to software engineering problems. Software Product Lines (SPLs) are families of related software systems whose members are distinguished by the set of features each one provides. SPL development practices have proven benefits such as improved software reuse, better customization, and faster time to market. A typical SPL usually involves a large number of systems and features, a fact that makes them attractive for the application of SBSE techniques which are able to tackle problems that involve large search spaces. ObjectiveThe main objective of our work is to identify the quantity and the type of research on the application of SBSE techniques to SPL problems. More concretely, the SBSE techniques that have been used and at what stage of the SPL life cycle, the type of case studies employed and their empirical analysis, and the fora where the research has been published. MethodA systematic mapping study was conducted with five research questions and assessed 77 publications from 2001, when the term SBSE was coined, until 2014. ResultsThe most common application of SBSE techniques found was testing followed by product configuration, with genetic algorithms and multi-objective evolutionary algorithms being the two most commonly used techniques. Our study identified the need to improve the robustness of the empirical evaluation of existing research, a lack of extensive and robust tool support, and multiple avenues worthy of further investigation. ConclusionsOur study attested the great synergy existing between both fields, corroborated the increasing and ongoing interest in research on the subject, and revealed challenging open research questions.

Abstract: Electrochemical conversion of CO2 to alcohols is one of the most challenging methods of conversion and storage of electrical energy in the form of high-energy fuels. The challenge lies in the catalyst design to enable its real-life implementation. Herein, we demonstrate the synthesis and characterization of a cobalt(III) triphenylphosphine corrole complex, which contains three polyethylene glycol residues attached at the meso-phenyl groups. Electron-donation and therefore reduction of the cobalt from cobalt(III) to cobalt(I) is accompanied by removal of the axial ligand, thus resulting in a square-planar cobalt(I) complex. The cobalt(I) as an electron-rich supernucleophilic d8-configurated metal centre, where two electrons occupy and fill up the antibonding dz2 orbital. This orbital possesses high affinity towards electrophiles, allowing for such electronically configurated metals reactions with carbon dioxide. Herein, we report the potential dependent heterogeneous electroreduction of CO2 to ethanol or methanol of an immobilized cobalt A3-corrole catalyst system. In moderately acidic aqueous medium (pH = 6.0), the cobalt corrole modified carbon paper electrode exhibits a Faradaic Efficiency (FE%) of 48 % towards ethanol production. Electrochemical conversion of carbon dioxide to ethanol is one of the most challenging energy conversion reactions. Here the authors show selective electroreduction of carbon dioxide to ethanol by using a functionalized cobalt A3-corrole catalyst immobilized on a carbon paper electrode.
