TL;DR: In conclusion, l‐carnitine improves human sperm motility and vitality, but has no effect on sperm DNA oxidation after cryopreservation.
Abstract: Successful cryopreservation for human spermatozoa markedly influences the reproductive outcomes of assisted reproductive technologies. But in spite of its usefulness, cryopreservation significantly decreases sperm quality. l-carnitine has been found to improve the quality of spermatozoa in selected cases with male infertility. Here, we examined the efficacy of l-carnitine in improving sperm motility and vitality and reducing sperm DNA oxidation during cryopreservation. Semen samples from infertile patients (n = 22) were collected and analysed. Cryopreservation medium supplemented with l-carnitine was mixed with the semen at a ratio of 1 : 1 (v/v). The final l-carnitine concentration in each cryovial was 0.5 mg ml(-1) per 5 × 10(6) cell ml(-1) . Controls were cryopreserved without addition of l-carnitine. After 24 h of cryopreservation, thawed sperm samples were analysed for motility, vitality and DNA oxidation. Sperm vitality was assessed by the eosin-nigrosin test, while sperm DNA oxidation was measured by flow cytometry. Addition of l-carnitine significantly improved sperm motility and vitality (P 0.05) in the levels of DNA oxidation between samples and controls. In conclusion, l-carnitine improves human sperm motility and vitality, but has no effect on sperm DNA oxidation after cryopreservation.

TL;DR: An experimental study on the replacement of R12 in domestic refrigerators by new hydrocarbon/hydrofluorocarbon refrigerant mixtures has been carried out as discussed by the authors, which shows that butane/propane/R134a mixtures provide excellent performance parameters, such as coefficient of performance of refrigerator, compression power, volumetric efficiency, condenser duty, compressor discharge pressure and temperature.

TL;DR: New models of abstracted typological classes that encode forms, functions, processes, concepts, scenarios, principles and components of previous design products are introduced as precedent-based knowledge management constructs to formulate reference prototypes that may help guide pre-design reasoning, inspire design processing, and direct post-design evaluation.

25 Jul 2013TL;DR: TeachCloud is a modelling and simulation environment for cloud computing that can be used to experiment with different cloud components such as: processing elements, data centres, storage, networking, service level agreement (SLA) constraints, web-based applications, service oriented architecture (SOA), virtualisation, management and automation, and business process management (BPM).
Abstract: Cloud computing is an evolving and fast-growing computing paradigm that has gained great interest from both industry and academia. Consequently, universities are actively integrating cloud computing into their IT curricula. One major challenge facing cloud computing instructors is the lack of a teaching tool to experiment with. This paper introduces TeachCloud, a modelling and simulation environment for cloud computing. TeachCloud can be used to experiment with different cloud components such as: processing elements, data centres, storage, networking, service level agreement (SLA) constraints, web-based applications, service oriented architecture (SOA), virtualisation, management and automation, and business process management (BPM). Also, TeachCloud introduces MapReduce processing model in order to handle embarrassingly parallel data processing problems. TeachCloud is an extension of CloudSim, a research-oriented simulator used for the development and validation in cloud computing.

TL;DR: In this paper, the thermal assessment of Sutterby nanofluid containing the gyrotactic microorganisms with solutal and Marangoni boundaries is discussed, where the applications of melting phenomenon and thermal conductivity are also considered.
Abstract: This research communicates the thermal assessment of Sutterby nanofluid containing the gyrotactic microorganisms with solutal and Marangoni boundaries. The applications of melting phenomenon and thermal conductivity are also considered. The flow is confined by a stretched cylinder. The prospective of Brownian motion and thermophoresis diffusions are also taken account via Buongiorno nanofluid model. The problem is formulated with help of governing relations and equations which are altered into dimensionless form via appropriate variables. The numerical scheme based on shooting scheme is employed to access the solution. A comparative analysis is performed to verify the approximated solution. The observations reveal that the velocity profile enhanced with the Marangoni number while a declining velocity profile has been observed with Sutterby nanofluid parameter and Darcy resistance parameter. The nanofluid temperature get rise with thermal conductivity parameter and thermal Biot number. An arising profile of nanofluid concentration is observed for concentration conductivity parameter and buoyancy ratio parameter.
