TL;DR: In this article, the effects of plant phosphorus (P) level on detrimental effects of sodium chloride (NaCl) on barley dry matter (DM) were investigated in a controlled setting.
Abstract: Increasing plant phosphorus (P) supply can increase or decrease salt tolerance of many plants. Barley (Hordeum vulgare L., cv. ACSAD 176) was grown in nutrient solution under controlled conditions to determine effects of P level on detrimental effects of sodium chloride (NaCl). Increasing level of P improved tolerance of barley to NaCl. At 3, 30, and 60 μM P, the NaCl concentrations to reduce shoot dry matter (DM) by 50% were 158, 193, and 260 mM, respectively. Increased NaCl levels reduced shoot P concentrations. Plants grown with NaCl had higher Internal P requirements. When NaCl in solution was 10, 150, and 300 mM, the corresponding concentrations of P in shoots required to obtain 50% DM were 1.6, 4.2, and 4.7 mg‐g‐1 dry weight, respectively. Increasing solution P level from 3 to 60 μM P decreased sodium (Na) and increased potassium (K) concentrations in shoots. Accumulation of mineral ions for osmotic adjustment and restriction of Na accumulation in shoots was involved in P enhancement of sal...

TL;DR: A novel corpus with 300 editorials from three diverse news portals that provides the basis for mining argumentation strategies and reveals different strategies across the news portals, exemplifying the benefit of studying editorials—a so far underresourced text genre in argument mining.
Abstract: Many argumentative texts, and news editorials in particular, follow a specific strategy to persuade their readers of some opinion or attitude. This includes decisions such as when to tell an anecdote or where to support an assumption with statistics, which is reflected by the composition of different types of argumentative discourse units in a text. While several argument mining corpora have recently been published, they do not allow the study of argumentation strategies due to incomplete or coarse-grained unit annotations. This paper presents a novel corpus with 300 editorials from three diverse news portals that provides the basis for mining argumentation strategies. Each unit in all editorials has been assigned one of six types by three annotators with a high Fleiss’ Kappa agreement of 0.56. We investigate various challenges of the annotation process and we conduct a first corpus analysis. Our results reveal different strategies across the news portals, exemplifying the benefit of studying editorials—a so far underresourced text genre in argument mining.

TL;DR: In this review of literature, insights are provided on the negative health effects of hookah in general, with a focus on what is known regarding its impact on the cardiovascular system.
Abstract: Hookah or waterpipe smoking or use is an emerging trend in the US population, especially among the youth. The misperception of hookah being less harmful than cigarettes and the availability of different but “appealing” flavors are considered among the main reasons for this trend. Hookah users however are exposed to many of the same toxic compounds/by-products as cigarette users, but at dramatically higher levels, which might lead to more severe negative health effects. In fact, hookah users are at risks of infections, cancers, lung disease, and other medical conditions. Moreover, because of the overlapping toxicant/chemical profile to conventional cigarettes, hookah smoke effects on the cardiovascular system are thought to be comparable to those of conventional cigarettes. A major source of tobacco addiction is nicotine, whose levels in hookah are extremely variable as they depend on the type of tobacco used. Taken together, in this review of literature, we will provide insights on the negative health effects of hookah in general, with a focus on what is known regarding its impact on the cardiovascular system.

TL;DR: There was a significant relationship between the severity and occurrence of menopausal symptoms and age, family income, level of education, number of children, perceived health status and menopausal status.
Abstract: Introduction Menopause is a transitional period that every woman goes through if she lives beyond the age of 52 years. The health care of women during this stage requires special attention to the identification of their health needs in order to provide competent care. The aim of the study was to assess severity of symptoms related to the menopausal period and to describe the differences in severity of menopausal symptoms according to menopausal status. Methods and design A descriptive cross-sectional design was used. Data were collected from 350 Jordanian women using a self-administered questionnaire consisting of a sociodemographic, medical and obstetrical history form and the Greene Climacteric Scale. Results Results on the severity of menopausal symptoms showed that 15.7%, 66.9% and 17.4% were experiencing severe, moderate and mild menopausal symptoms, respectively. Vasomotor signs were reported to have the highest scores for severity as manifested by hot flushes and night sweating. In addition, women in...
