TL;DR: In this article, the authors compared archaeological samples of amber, found in Slovenia, with amber from the Baltic Sea by density and solubility measurements and by thin-layer chromatography, and found that the archaeological samples do not originate from Baltic Sea amber, but probably from a tree resin which was produced similarly to present-day colophony.
