TL;DR: The authors analyzed multilevel relations between religiosity (personal and culture-level) and several aspects of family orientation for n = 4902 adolescents from 18 nations/areas from diverse cultural contexts covering a number of religious denominations with data from the Value-of-Children-Study (Trommsdorff & Nauck, 2005).
Abstract: Recent sociological and psychological debates concern the nature of the relation between changing religious beliefs and changing significance of the family. The current study analyzes multilevel relations between religiosity (personal and culture-level) and several aspects of family orientation for n = 4902 adolescents from 18 nations/areas from diverse cultural contexts covering a number of religious denominations with data from the Value-of-Children-Study (Trommsdorff & Nauck, 2005). In addition, cultural values from the World Values Survey representing religious versus secular values as well as survival versus self- expression values are examined at the cultural level of analysis as a joint effect with nation-level economic development. Results showed that religiosity/religious values were positively related to all aspects of adolescents’ family orientation at the individual as well as the cultural level, while societal affluence was only related to a loss of importance of the traditional and hierarchical aspects of family orientation. Postmaterialist self-expression values were unrelated to adolescents’ family orientation.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated some mechanical and physical properties of one-layer particleboards made from various willow (Salix viminalis) and industrial pine wood particle mixtures bonded with urea formaldehyde resin.
Abstract: The objective of this study was to investigate some mechanical and physical properties of one-layer particleboards made from various willow (Salix viminalis) and industrial pine wood particle mixtures bonded with urea formaldehyde resin. Modulus of elasticity and modulus of rupture decreased, whereas internal bond and screw holding strengths increased with increasing willow particle content. The decrease in bending properties was rather small; these properties of particleboards containing 50 % willow particles were on average smaller by about 10 % than particleboards containing only industrial wood particles. Increasing the willow particle content resulted in improved water absorption and thickness swelling. The willow Salix viminalis can be considered as a substitute for pine wood for manufacturing of particleboards.

TL;DR: In this article, the electrochemical properties of undoped diamond polycrystalline films grown on tungsten wire substrates using methanol as a precursor are described, and the results demonstrate that the grain boundaries and sp 2 -hybridized carbon impurity can have a significant influence on electrochemical window.

TL;DR: The main indication to undertake further research on the functioning of the antioxidant barrier in people suffering from ailments in the form of tinnitus is to determine a suitable therapy aimed at improving the quality of life of patients, which might be the administration of antioxidant medications.
Abstract: Background. Tinnitus is defined as a phantom auditory perception, i.e., sound experience despite the lack of acoustic stimuli in the environment. The aim of this study was to assess the state of the natural antioxidant barrier of a body in patients complaining about the presence of tinnitus. Material and Methods. The study included a total of 51 patients aged from 20 to 62 years with diagnosed idiopathic tinnitus and 19 healthy subjects as a control group. All patients underwent the audiometric tone test, speech audiometry, distortion otoacoustic emission product testing, study of evoked auditory potentials of short latency, and biochemical analysis of venous blood concerning values of activity or concentration of glutathione, glutathione peroxidase, S-transferase, glutathione reductase superoxide dismutase, malondialdehyde, and ceruloplasmin as the selected parameters of oxidative stress. Results. Disorders of the auditory pathway were not only limited to the cochlea but also covered its further episodes. Mean values of activity or concentration of the selected parameters of oxidative stress in the study and control groups showed reduced effectiveness of the body’s natural antioxidant barrier. Discussion. Patients complaining about the presence of tinnitus showed reduced effectiveness of the body’s natural antioxidant barrier compared to the control group. Conclusions. The main indication to undertake further research on the functioning of the antioxidant barrier in people suffering from ailments in the form of tinnitus is to determine a suitable therapy aimed at improving the quality of life of these patients, which might be the administration of antioxidant medications.

TL;DR: In this article, a model of bainite transformation for two simultaneous reactions in the range of swing back is presented, where the assumptions of the model consist of the exponential relationship of the volume of individual sub-plates and the autocatalytic coefficients related to the changes of nucleation rates.
Abstract: A model of bainite transformation for two simultaneous reactions in the range of swing back is presented. The bainitic microstructure includes two different sheaves. The sheaves of first type had a midrib in the direction of the plates axes and form a butterfly shape. The second type of sheaves were of the grain boundary nucleated bainite. A mathematical model permitted dividing the kinetic curves and establishing separate time–temperature-transformation (TTT) diagrams for the individual structural components. The experimental data were obtained from dilatometric experiments. The assumptions of the model consist of the exponential relationship of the volume of the individual sub-plates and the autocatalytic coefficients related to the changes of nucleation rates. The results of the computation showed that the lengths of the individually formed sub-plates are dependent on the type of the structural component.
