TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the amorphous carbon admixture in the CVD diamond layer has a crucial influence on its electrochemical performance, and the electrochemical activity of the obtained diamond layers was monitored by using cyclic voltammetry measurements.
Abstract: The polycrystalline undoped diamond layers were deposited on tungsten wire substrates by using hot filament chemical vapor deposition (HFCVD) technique. As a working gas the mixture of methanol in excess of hydrogen was used. The morphologies and quality of as-deposited films were monitored by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman spectroscopy respectively. The electrochemical activity of the obtained diamond layers was monitored by using cyclic voltammetry measurements. Analysis of the ferrocyanide–ferricyanide couple at undoped diamond electrode suggests that electrochemical reaction at diamond electrode has a quasireversibile character. The ratio of the anodic and cathodic peak currents was always close to unity. In this work we showed that the amorphous carbon admixture in the CVD diamond layer has a crucial influence on its electrochemical performance.

TL;DR: Presented concept of the repository constitutes a relatively novel solution, but its further development may lead to the novel family of commercial initiatives aiming at joining common efforts toward optimization of 3D-based technologies in everyday clinical practice and online e-learning system.
Abstract: Abstract Novel, easy-automation technologies such as three-dimensional (3D) printing and reverse engineering can improve the training of medical and allied health professionals and everyday clinical practice. This paper aims at the presentation of its own concept of the repository of medical images for education and everyday clinical practice purposes. Presented concept of the repository constitutes a relatively novel solution, but its further development may lead to the novel family of commercial initiatives aiming at joining common efforts toward optimization of 3D-based technologies in everyday clinical practice and online e-learning system.

TL;DR: Evidence is provided related to changes which occurred during the relevant period of over 40 years, namely a decrease in both the angle of lumbar lordosis and the sacral inclination angle, as well as an increase in body height and mass.
Abstract: BACKGROUND Humans are exposed to various stimuli which lead to somatic modifications and changes in body posture, negatively affecting many of its characteristics. The purpose of this study was to assess significant alterations which occurred in selected morphological features and spinal curvatures in children and adolescents over a period of 40 years. MATERIAL AND METHODS The total of 7041 subjects, aged 4-18 years (mean age 11.3 years) were included in the study, which was designed to compare measurements performed in year 1959 (Group 1, n=3235 individuals) and in year 2003 (Group 2, n=3806 individuals). The children were examined for body height, body mass, as well as thoracic and lumbar curvatures. In 1959, the measurements were carried out using a spherodorsimeter, while in 2003, the CQ System photogrammetry was used, producing corresponding results. The Mann-Whitney U test and the Student's t-test were used for statistical analysis. RESULTS The findings showed a significant decrease in the angle of lumbar lordosis and in sacral inclination as well as an increase in body height and mass, particularly in prepubertal children. On the other hand, the angle of thoracic kyphosis and the partial angles of physiological spinal curvatures changed only to a small degree over the 40-year period. CONCLUSIONS This study provides evidence related to changes which occurred during the relevant period of over 40 years, namely a decrease in both the angle of lumbar lordosis and the sacral inclination angle, as well as an increase in body height and mass. These changes should be taken into consideration in selecting norms and standards applied in healthcare services, and the findings suggest it is necessary to regularly update such standards.

TL;DR: In this article, the light yield of Y3Al5O12:Ce single-crystal films is comparable to that of single crystals grown by directed crystallization due to the quenching effect of the Pb2+ ion impurity as a flux component.
Abstract: Luminescence and scintillation properties of Y3Al5O12:Ce single crystals grown from the melt by the Czochralski and horizontal directed crystallization methods in various gas media and Y3Al5O12:Ce single-crystal films grown by liquid-phase epitaxy from a melt solution based on a PbO-B2O3 flux have been comparatively analyzed. The strong dependence of scintillation properties of Y3Al5O12:Ce single crystals on their growth conditions and concentrations of YAl antisite defects and vacancy defects has been established. Vacancy defects are involved in Ce3+ ion emission excitation as the centers of intrinsic UV luminescence and trapping centers. It has been shown that Y3Al5O12:Ce single-crystal films are characterized by faster scintillation decay kinetics than single crystals and a lower content of slow components in Ce3+ ion luminescence decay during high-energy excitation due to the absence of YAl antisite defects in them and low concentration of vacancy defects. At the same time, the light yield of Y3Al5O12:Ce single-crystal films is comparable to that of single crystals grown by directed crystallization due to the quenching effect of the Pb2+ ion impurity as a flux component and is slightly lower (∼25%) than the light yield of single crystals grown by the Czochralski method.
