TL;DR: These experiments show that open-source jump mats are as valid and reliable as their proprietary counterparts at a lower cost and practitioners can be confident in using Globus or Chronojump systems to test athletes' jump height because of their negligible errors and Axon system to monitor general population.
Abstract: PURPOSE Vertical jump tests are used to assess lower-limb power of athletes in sport sciences. Flight time measurement with jump-mat systems is the most common procedure for this purpose. The aim of this study was to analyze the concurrent validity and reliability of two proprietary systems (Globus and Axon) and an open-source system (Chronojump). METHODS A conditioning electric circuit governed by a controlled wave generator is designed to substitute athletes jumping on a physical mat. In order to look for possible differences associated to timekeeping by each microcontroller device, all three systems are fed by the circuit simultaneously. RESULTS Concurrent validity was high for the three systems. Standarized typical error of estimate (TEE) was trivial, according to MBI interpretation as well as perfect Pearson correlation coefficient. Reliability was assessed based on the coefficient of variation of flight time measure, resulting in 0.17-0.63% (0.05-0.12 cm) for Globus, 0.01% (0.09 cm) for Chronojump and 5.65-9.38% (2.15-3.53 cm) for Axon. These results show that all jump-mat system produced nearly identical measures of flight time so they can be considered valid and reliable for practical purposes. In comparison, Chronojump showed the best performance whereas Axon showed enough variability and disagreement to pose a problem in testing elite athletes. CONCLUSIONS These experiments show that open-source jump mats are as valid and reliable as their proprietary counterparts at a lower cost. Therefore, practitioners can be confident in using Globus or Chronojump systems to test athletes' jump height because of their negligible errors and Axon system to monitor general population.

TL;DR: In this paper, the luminescence and scintillation properties of gadolinium terbium aluminium garnet single crystalline films, Gd3−xTbxAl5O12, doped with Ce3+ are investigated as a function of the Gd/Tb ratio with the aim of an improved understanding of the energy transfer processes between Ce3 and Tb3+ ions in the aluminium garnets hosts.

09 Nov 2015TL;DR: The paper presents theoretical models of flight of a bag filled with water, dropped from an aircraft moving horizontally, and results of numerical computations based on this model are compared with results of measurements for the trajectory of abag dropped from a helicopter.
Abstract: The physical model of Water Capsule Flight is relatively simple but analytically unsolvable. The input data includes the mass of the capsule, velocity, altitude, aerodynamic coefficients of the capsule, and horizontal and vertical winds. The ABC optimization is focused on those attributes. This article is a part of the series dedicated to Inspired by Nature Methods of AI and their implementation in the mechatronic systems. A bag filled with water is an excellent source of explosion-produced water spray which can be used for extinguishing large fires or for other purposes. The paper presents theoretical models of flight of a bag filled with water, dropped from an aircraft moving horizontally. Results of numerical computations based on this model are compared with results of measurements for the trajectory of a bag dropped from a helicopter. A description of the experimental and numerical setup for this experiment are also discussed.

TL;DR: A high contamination in composting plants and tanneries, while materials in archives and libraries were less contaminated, and 15 species were identified as useful indicators of microbial contamination based on their presence at the workplace, frequency of occurrence and harmfulness to health.
Abstract: The aim of this research was to estimate fungal contamination at workplaces in composting plants, tanneries, libraries and archives. The influence of raw material processed or stored at these workplaces (compost, leather, cellulose) on the toxigenicity and cytotoxicity of fungi was also investigated. Qualitative and quantitative mycological analysis confirmed a high contamination in composting plants and tanneries, while materials in archives and libraries were less contaminated. Among the 74 fungal species present in the studied work environments, 15 species were identified as useful indicators of microbial contamination based on their presence at the workplace, frequency of occurrence and harmfulness to health. For nine Aspergillus and Penicillium isolates, identification was confirmed on the basis of molecular techniques, i.e. internal transcribed spacer region and β-tubulin gene sequencing, and the obtained nucleotide sequences were deposited into the NCBI GenBank Database. Five strains were cytotoxic...

TL;DR: Results show that compounds 5e and 5i have very strong activity against MCF-7 and HCT116 with IC50 values of 3.02–4.13 μg/ml, and the cytotoxic activity of compound 5c and 5f against BALB/3T3 cells is up to 20 times lower than against cancer cell lines.
