TL;DR: Serum 25(OH)D concentration was not positively correlated with isometric muscle strength, vertical jump performance, or RSA after adjusting for age, training experience, fat mass, fat free mass and height, and indices of iron status.
Abstract: Objectives The aim was to examine the association between serum vitamin D concentration and isometric strength of various muscle groups, vertical jump performance, and repeated sprint ability in young ice hockey players. The secondary aim was to determine the association between vitamin D deficiency and indices of iron status. Methods Fifty male ice hockey players (17.2±0.9 years) participated in this cross-sectional study. Exercise performance was evaluated using isometric strength measures of upper and lower extremities, vertical jump performance and repeated sprint ability (RSA). Blood samples were collected for the determination of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) and multiple indicies of iron status. Results The mean serum 25(OH)D concentration was 30.4 ng·ml-1 and ranged from 12.5 to 91.4 ng·ml-1. Eleven participants (22%) had vitamin D deficiency and 20 athletes (40%) had vitamin D insufficiency. Serum 25(OH)D concentration was not positively correlated with isometric muscle strength, vertical jump performance, or RSA after adjusting for age, training experience, fat mass, fat free mass and height. Serum 25(OH)D concentration was not associated with indices of iron status. Conclusion Vitamin D insufficiency is highly prevalent in ice hockey players, but 25(OH)D concentration but it is not associated with exercise performance or indices of iron status.

TL;DR: The morphology of the adult of Lepidozetes singularis indicates that L. singularis has no posterior tectum on the notogaster; these findings support the transfer of the type species and genus from Tegoribatidae to Ceratozetidae.
Abstract: The systematic position of Lepidozetes singularis Berlese, 1910, which is the type species of the oribatid mite genus Lepidozetes Berlese, 1910, was investigated in the light of ontogenetic studies. The morphology of the adult indicates that L. singularis is presently classified under Tegoribatidae (Achipterioidea), the juveniles of which have plicate cuticle and no humeral organ, but the juveniles of this species (investigated here for the first time) have smooth cuticle, a dorsal macrosclerite and a humeral organ and a dark pigmented area around the opisthonotal gland opening, all of which are typical of Ceratozetoidea. The latter superfamily is a large one, but a humeral organ occurs only in the juveniles of Ceratozetidae and Mycobatidae, which differ distinctly in the morphology of the adult; Ceratozetidae lacks a posterior tectum on the notogaster, whereas Mycobatidae has it. The adult of L. singularis has no posterior tectum on the notogaster; these findings support the transfer of the type species ...

TL;DR: This study used the RAD-seq and GBS approaches to identify novel cpDNA polymorphisms that could be helpful to identify population structure of European beech at geographical scale and allowed us to indicate a finer population structure and stronger patterns of spatial genetic structure than previous studies.
Abstract: Reduced representation genomic libraries (RRLs) are increasingly used to answer diverse questions in evolutionary biology, which remained unresolved otherwise. In the case of European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.), former applications of nuclear and chloroplast genetic markers indicated that most of the beech populations of Central, Eastern, and Northern Europe have a very homogeneous genetic structure. Thus, determining differentiation among populations of F. sylvatica at regional scale in Central Europe has remained a challenge for evolutionary biologists, mainly due to lack of variable genetic markers. In this study, we used the RAD-seq and GBS approaches to identify novel cpDNA polymorphisms that could be helpful to identify population structure of European beech at geographical scale. Our datasets allowed us to indicate a finer population structure and stronger patterns of spatial genetic structure than previous studies. It is expected that the applications of cpDNA-based phylogenetic approaches using whole-genome sequencing are able to provide even more detailed picture of species phylogeography than ever before.

TL;DR: In this article, the efficiency of ZnO doping with Ag and N shallow acceptors, which substitute, respectively, cations and anions, was investigated, and it was shown that Ag-N pairs and N-Ag-N triangles form a strong tendency towards formation of nearest-neighbor Ag-n pairs.
Abstract: Efficiency of ZnO doping with Ag and N shallow acceptors, which substitute, respectively, cations and anions, was investigated. First principles calculations indicate a strong tendency towards formation of nearest-neighbor Ag-N pairs and N-Ag-N triangles. Binding of acceptors stems from the formation of quasimolecular bonds between dopants and has a universal character in semiconductors. The pairing increases energy levels of impurities and thus lowers doping efficiency. In the presence of donors pairing is weaker or even forbidden. However, hydrogen has a tendency to form clusters with Ag and N, which favors the Ag-N aggregation and lowers the acceptor levels of such complexes.
