TL;DR: In this paper, the independence property of weakly quasi-o-minimal ordered groups was shown to be weakly weak and weakly ominimal, and it was shown that every weakly quasilequi-o minimal ordered group is Abelian, and every divisible Archimedean weakly quadratic order is weak o minimal.
Abstract: We introduce the notion of a weakly quasi-o-minimal model and prove that such models lack the independence property. We show that every weakly quasi-o-minimal ordered group is Abelian, every divisible Archimedean weakly quasi-o-minimal ordered group is weakly o-minimal, and every weakly o-minimal quasi-o-minimal ordered group is o-minimal. We also prove that every weakly quasi-o-minimal Archimedean ordered ring with nonzero multiplication is a real closed field that is embeddable into the field of reals.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed the effect of sanctions on bank ownership and credit quality across Russia's wider Economic Union and found that sanctions result in institutional illiquidity, limited capital market access and a rise in state funding coupled with bank takeovers by governments.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the impact of the value of diversity in business in Kazakhstan, analysing the possible opportunities, benefits and, if any, negatives or downsides for companies that diversity can bring.
Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate the impact of the value of diversity in business in Kazakhstan, analysing the possible opportunities, benefits and, if any, negatives or downsides for companies that diversity can bring.Design/methodology/approach – Focus groups and interviews.Findings – The position of women and minorities were uncovered. The findings also show how open are the Kazakhstani people to foreigners and to what extent are foreigners accepted in Kazakhstan.Research limitations/implications – Though supplemented with interviews, more focus groups may be applied. The study has been limited to Almaty, the most diverse city in Kazakhstan. Perhaps it would have different results if it had been conducted in other major cities.Practical implications – Allows a survey of the possible opportunities/benefits and threats/costs of diversity that may be reaped by the Republic of Kazakhstan.Originality/value – Provides continuing perspectives on the issue of diversity, which is one of the...

TL;DR: In this article, rhetorical analysis is used to yield insight into the nature of relations between things within the Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm and to build the principles that can potentially be used for progressing from IoT into communities of things (CoT).
Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to yield insight into the nature of relations between things within the Internet of things (IoT) paradigm and to build the principles that can potentially be used for progressing from IoT into communities of things (CoT). This study engages in rhetorical analysis—a qualitative research technique designed to yield non-quantitative data and to build a strong theoretical foundation for future studies in the field of IoT. It reveals that things can be perceived as beings within the communication networks; IoT can be organized into CoT; and various models of communities can be generated depending on desired outcomes. The findings require empirical implementation of the proposed principles for creating CoT. The direction indicated in this study will help solve a number of technical challenges that IoT faces nowadays, from architecture and communication to privacy and security. Viewing things as beings will encourage a wide-ranging discussion of the applications of social sci...

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the value-creation strategies of selected Indian companies by analysing whether EVA better represents the market-value of these companies in comparison to conventional performance measures.
Abstract: Managing and creating shareholder values have become a widely accepted corporate objective since the last decade. Of late, companies in India have started focusing on shareholders wealth creation by adopting value-based models for measuring shareholder value that helps to align managerial decision making with firm preferences. In recent years, the EVA framework is gradually replacing the 'traditional' measures of financial performance on account of its robustness and its immunity from 'creative' accounting. This study examines the value-creation strategies of selected Indian companies by analysing whether EVA better represents the market-value of these companies in comparison to conventional performance measures. In this regard, EVA and the conventional measures of corporate performance, such as, RONW, ROCE and EPS are analysed. Moreover, ANOVA, trend analysis and regression analysis are used for analysing the data. The study indicates that "there is no strong evidence to support Stern Stewart's claim that EVA is superior to the traditional performance measures in its association with MVA". During 2010-11, just 17 Indian companies, from a sample of 500, were providing EVA disclosures in their annual reports.
