TL;DR: A new set of forward-looking super-imposed dynamic generally accepted accounting principles (SuperGAAP) could be the answer to the problem of bank failures and liquidity crisis of 2007 as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: Over the past two decades more than three thousand banks have failed, mostly in America and Japan. The five thousand banks operating worldwide today are going to be regulated under the most complex and costly but conceptually flawed regime ever devised: the so called Basel II Accord setting minimum capital requirements to absorb risk. Basel I of 1988 did not prevent the bank failures of the 1990s, and Basel II of 2004 did not prevent the liquidity crisis of 2007 because our century old accounting principles are out of date and touch. A new set of forward-looking super-imposed dynamic generally accepted accounting principles (SuperGAAP) could be the answer.

TL;DR: Fashion and technology have been deeply connected in Central Asia since the dawn of time as discussed by the authors and every piece of clothing was the result of applying technology to materials found in nature, based on an idea that originated in someone's mind.
Abstract: Fashion and technology have been deeply connected in Central Asia since the dawn of time. Every piece of clothing was the result of applying technology to materials found in nature, based on an idea that originated in someone’s mind. Clothing held a mystical purpose as well as a utilitarian one, protecting the owner from all kinds of danger. What people wore signified who they were as individuals situated in the family and the cosmos. Changes in fashion went hand-in-hand with technological change as the inspiration for and outcome of new ideas. This is why one can predict with confidence that forms of high technology now emerging will be assimilated quickly by the local fashion industry. This signals a bright future for high tech fashion in Kazakhstan, where significant changes are already well underway. As the emerging fashion industry advances on its current trajectory of development, it will continue to express the beliefs, expectations, hopes and dreams of the people of Kazakhstan in a synthesis of elements from the past, present and future.

Abstract: By focusing predominantly on discourse production and language management, language policy research de-emphasizes the material sources of inequality. The paper argues that language management, often restricted by ritualistic and symbolic gestures, cannot rectify historically formed relations of power an

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explored key institutional determinants of good corporate governance practices in Pakistan and emphasized the necessity to revisit the foundation of institutional and agency theories in the environment of developing countries.
Abstract: Economic globalization has encouraged debate on the differences and similarities between national corporate governance (CG) systems. However, in today’s world, it is pivotal to study how (and to what extent) is CG shaped by institutional environments both at national and firm level? Consequently, this study seeks to explore key institutional determinants of good CG practices in Pakistan. Drawing on the lenses of agency and institutional theories, the study conceptualizes CG practices and structures as institutionally resolute and directed. The study adopts a qualitative research methodology and found that CG models, particularly in developing countries, are irrelevant if they are not institutionally grounded and explicated. In particular, the study explores the extent to which certain underlying formal and informal institutional determinants, such as the auditing, political, legal, board, shareholders awareness, voting, culture and values play a determining role in corporate governance. The study emphasized the necessity to revisit the foundation of institutional and agency theories in the environment of developing countries. The study also suggests the reassessment of the implication of executives in agency theory literature concerning developing countries, relying on the general lack of knowledge by shareholders with respect to their rights.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors identified the series of health reforms in Kazakhstan since the country gained its independence and discussed the features of each of the healthcare reform programs and their respective implementation timeframes.
Abstract: This chapter identifies the series of health reforms in Kazakhstan since the country gained its independence. The reforms began with The Concept of Healthcare Reform in 1992 with the most current healthcare reform (the State Program of Healthcare Development) (2020–2025) which was passed in 2019. The reforms constitute parts of public sector reform which aims to make government more efficient in the delivery of public services. The chapter discusses the features of each of the healthcare reform programs and their respective implementation timeframes.
