TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed the characteristics of heat transport mechanism in three-dimensional ferrofluid flow past a deformed surface subjected to the Coriolis and Lorentz forces.
Abstract: Characteristics of heat transport mechanism in three-dimensional ferrofluid flow past a deformed surface subjected to the Coriolis and Lorentz forces are analyzed. The impacts of Joule heating, nonlinear thermal radiation, viscous dissipation and convective condition are also accounted. The carrier fluid (water) is embedded by Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles. The boundary layer approximations are employed in problem statement. Stretching transformations are utilized to form nonlinear ODE system from governed PDE system. The subsequent system is treated numerically via Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg method. Effects of relevant parameters on different flow fields are discussed comprehensively with help of graphs. It is established that the heat transfer rate is enhanced due to Coriolis and Lorentz forces. Furthermore, Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles enhance the Nusselt number significantly in comparison with Al 2 O 3 nanoparticles.

TL;DR: The results suggest that exposure to malathion, even at relatively low concentrations, can have serious negative consequences for Wood Frog tadpoles and that there was little synergistic interaction betweenmalathion and nitrate exposure under laboratory conditions.
Abstract: Use of pesticides and other agro-chemicals adversely influence amphibians either directly by killing them or by inducing sublethal, chronic effects. Many studies have investigated the effect of mixtures of pesticides or fertilizers. We studied the combined effects of nitrate and malathion ([(dimethoxy phosphino thioyl] butanediotae) on the early growth, expression of abnormalities, and mortality of Wood Frog (Rana sylvatica) tadpoles in a laboratory experiment. Tadpoles were treated with factorial combinations of 0, 8, and 16 mg NO3–N l−1 and 0, 250, 500, and 1,000 μg malathion l−1 for a period of 14 days. Feeding behaviour, total length, mean tadpole mass, frequencies of abnormalities, and survivorship in each treatment were recorded. Malathion showed a significant negative influence on all parameters and strongly influenced the frequencies of morphological anomalies. In contrast, nitrate alone did not produce any significant effects on behavior, total length, tadpole mass, or the frequency of abnormalities during the experiment. Malathion and nitrate had an interactive effect on tadpole length and mass, but did not affect any other parameters. Our results suggest that exposure to malathion, even at relatively low concentrations can have serious negative consequences for Wood Frog tadpoles. In addition, our results also indicate that there was little synergistic interaction between malathion and nitrate exposure under laboratory conditions.

TL;DR: In this article, the productive synthesis of nanocrystalline zinc substituted mixed ferrite (Ni1−xZnxFe2O4) particles via low-temperature citrate gel auto-combustion method is reported.
Abstract: We report the productive synthesis of nanocrystalline zinc substituted mixed ferrite (Ni1−xZnxFe2O4 (0 ≤ x ≤ 1)) particles via low-temperature citrate gel auto-combustion method. The structure and microstructure of the particles, elemental analysis, and complex impedance properties are carried out by PXRD, FESEM, EDS and impedance spectroscopy respectively. The increased lattice parameters with Zn2+ concentrations suggest the substitution of Zn2+ ions to Ni2+. Dielectric constant, dielectric loss and AC conductivity were studied as a function of frequency infer a significant alteration in the dielectric constant, dielectric loss and A.C. conductivity and also showed that zinc substituted ferrites possess low tangent loss (≈ 10−2) at high frequencies. Further, the impedance spectroscopic studies reveal that Zn2+ substituted (x = 0.2, 0.8 and 1) samples attain non-Debye type dielectric relaxation.

TL;DR: Evaluated the anticancer property of MPTQ on mouse neuro 2a and human SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cells and investigated the mechanisms underlyingMPTQ-mediated neuro 2 a cell death, finding that it is mediated by ATM and p53 activation, and Bax-mediated activation of caspase-dependent and caspases-independent mitochondrial apoptosis pathways.
Abstract: Neuroblastoma is the most common cancer in infants and fourth most common cancer in children. Despite recent advances in cancer treatments, the prognosis of stage-IV neuroblastoma patients continues to be dismal which warrant new pharmacotherapy. A novel tetracyclic condensed quinoline compound, 8-methoxypyrimido [4′,5′:4,5]thieno(2,3-b) quinoline-4(3H)-one (MPTQ) is a structural analogue of an anticancer drug ellipticine and has been reported to posses anticancer property. Study on MPTQ on neuroblastoma cells is very limited and mechanisms related to its cytotoxicity on neuroblastoma cells are completely unknown. Here, we evaluated the anticancer property of MPTQ on mouse neuro 2a and human SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cells and investigated the mechanisms underlying MPTQ-mediated neuro 2a cell death. MPTQ-mediated neuro 2a and SH-SY5Y cell deaths were found to be dose and time dependent. Moreover, MPTQ induced cell death reached approximately 99.8% and 90% in neuro 2a and SH-SY5Y cells respectively. Nuclear oligonucleosomal DNA fragmentation and Terminal dUTP Nick End Labelling assays indicated MPTQ-mediated neuro 2a cell death involved apoptosis. MPTQ-mediated apoptosis is associated with increased phosphorylation of p53 at Ser15 and Ser20 which correlates with the hyperphosphorylation of Ataxia-Telangiectasia mutated protein (ATM). Immunocytochemical analysis demonstrated the increased level of Bax protein in MPTQ treated neuro 2a cells. MPTQ-mediated apoptosis is also associated with increased activation of caspase-9, -3 and -7 but not caspase-2 and -8. Furthermore, increased level of caspase-3 and cleaved Poly (ADP Ribose) polymerase were observed in the nucleus of MPTQ treated neuro 2a cells, suggesting the involvement of caspase-dependent intrinsic but not extrinsic apoptotic pathway. Increased nuclear translocation of apoptosis inducing factor suggests additional involvement of caspase-independent apoptosis pathway in MPTQ treated neuro 2a cells. Collectively, MPTQ-induced neuro 2a cell death is mediated by ATM and p53 activation, and Bax-mediated activation of caspase-dependent and caspase-independent mitochondrial apoptosis pathways.

TL;DR: In this article, a pencil graphite electrode was modified with poly(crystal violet) film and characterized using cyclic voltammetric method (CV) for electrochemical detection of hydroquinone (HQ) and catechol (CC).
Abstract: A pencil graphite electrode was modified with poly(crystal violet) film and characterized using cyclic voltammetric method (CV). The film coated electrode exhibited excellent electrocatalytic properties towards electrochemical detection of hydroquinone (HQ) and catechol (CC) and the process was found to be adsorption-controlled. A linear relationship was observed between the peak current response and concentration for both HQ and CC by using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) technique and the detection limits of 30.35 nM and 27.76 nM were obtained for HQ and CC respectively. The redox potentials were observed to be pH dependent and confirms transfer of the same protons and electrons number in the oxidation and reduction mechanisms. Furthermore, successful selective separation of HQ and CC in a binary mixture was achieved.
