TL;DR: In this article, the average radium equivalent activity (Raeq), absorbed dose rate and annual effective dose have been calculated and compared with the referred safe values in soil samples collected at 30 places around Kolar Gold Fields, Kolar district.
Abstract: The study on natural radioactivity level in the soil plays a significant role in health physics. The present study has been carried out with the aim of estimating activity concentration of radionuclides in soil samples collected at 30 places around Kolar Gold Fields, Kolar district using gamma ray spectrometry. Average values of activity concentration of 226Ra, 232Th and 40K in soil samples of the present study are 27.3 ± 1.8, 63.1 ± 2.5 and 818 ± 6 Bq kg−1, respectively. The average radium equivalent activity (Raeq), absorbed dose rate and annual effective dose have been calculated and compared with the referred safe values.

TL;DR: A series of novel 2,5-disubstituted-1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives were synthesized and screened for their antimicrobial and antioxidant activities and indicated that compounds 3c, 3d, and 3i exhibited comparable antibacterial and antioxidant activity with first-line drugs.
Abstract: A series of novel 2,5-disubstituted-1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives were synthesized and screened for their antimicrobial and antioxidant activities. The assay indicated that compounds 3c, 3d, and 3i exhibited comparable antibacterial and antioxidant activity with first-line drugs. The structure activity relationship and molecular docking study of the synthesized compounds are also reported.

TL;DR: In this paper, the corrosion behavior of electrodeposited Zn and Zn-V2O5 composite coatings was investigated in 3.5% NaCl solution using polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS).
Abstract: Composite coatings were obtained by electrochemical codeposition of V2O5 nanoparticles with zinc, from an additive free acid sulfate bath. The corrosion behavior of electrodeposited Zn and Zn-V2O5 composite coatings was investigated in 3.5% NaCl solution using polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The decrease in I
corr values and an increase in R
ct values show the higher corrosion resistant nature of Zn-V2O5 coatings. The observed textural modifications of composite coatings are associated with the specific structural modification of Zn crystallites provoked by the adsorption-desorption phenomena occurring on the metal surface, induced by the presence of V2O5 nanoparticles. It has been observed that the presence of V2O5 nanoparticles favors the [1 0 2] and [1 1 2] texture of zinc matrix. Moreover, the codeposition of V2O5 nanoparticles with zinc was found to be favored at pH 3.5 and applied current density 4 A dm−2. A considerable grain refinement of the deposit occurred due to incorporation of V2O5 nanoparticles and hence improved the preferred orientation of the zinc crystallites.

20 Dec 2005TL;DR: The feasibility of the new symbolic PCA method has been successfully tested for face recognition using ORL database and requires less number of features to achieve the same recognition rate.
Abstract: A face recognition technique based on symbolic PCA approach is presented in this paper. The proposed method transforms the face images by extracting knowledge from training samples into symbolic objects, termed as symbolic faces. Symbolic PCA is employed to compute a set of subspace basis vectors for symbolic faces and then to project the symbolic faces into the compressed subspace. New test images are then matched with the images in the database by projecting them onto the basis vectors and finding the nearest symbolic face in the subspace. The feasibility of the new symbolic PCA method has been successfully tested for face recognition using ORL database. As compared to eigenface method, the proposed method requires less number of features to achieve the same recognition rate.
