TL;DR: Thirty two Streptomycetes isolates from soils of Kodachadri region in Western ghats were recovered by soil dilution technique and one isolate showed excellent antifungal activity against all test organisms with maximum zone of inhibition 60 mm each incase of C. albicans.
Abstract: Forty two Streptomycetes isolates from soils of Kodachadri region in Western ghats were recovered by soil dilution technique. Cross streak method was followed for primary screening of antifungal activity. Positive isolates were subjected to secondary screening by cold extraction of fermentation broth in butanol solvent. Six isolates exhibited broad spectrum antifungal activity against all the tested yeast pathogens like Candida albicans, Candida lipolytica, Cryptococcus neoformens and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. One isolate showed excellent antifungal activity against all test organisms with maximum zone of inhibition 60 mm each incase of C. neoformens and C. albicans. Partial characterization of antifungal metabolite by TLC resulted in a purple spot with an Rf value 0.50. The UV absorption spectra at 218 nm indicated possible chemical nature of the active metabolite as polyene group and purity was assessed by analytical HPLC.

TL;DR: This study aims to investigate the availability of web citations and their persistence in Indian Library and Information Science literature, types of link accessibility errors encountered, domains associated with missing web citation and the correlation between the path depth and missing web citations.
Abstract: Purpose – The worldwide web is growing at an enormous speed and web citations are becoming very common in scholarly publications. However the major problem of web citation is its persistence since citations disappear over time, causing accessibility problems for readers. In this context the present study aims to investigate the availability of web citations and their persistence in Indian Library and Information Science literature. The study also aims to investigate types of link accessibility errors encountered, domains associated with missing web citations and the correlation between the path depth and missing web citations.Design/methodology/approach – The web citations (URLs) from 350 articles published in Indian Association of Teachers in Library and Information Science (IATLIS) conference volume (2001‐2008) were extracted and then tested to determine the accessibility. The W3C Link Checker (http://validator.w3.org/checklink) was used to evaluate links associated with a cited web resource. This link ...

TL;DR: In this article, 2-Acetylnaphtho [2,1-b] furan 1 was reacted with various aromatic aldehydes in presence of alkali, to produce corresponding chalcones 2a-i.
Abstract: 2-Acetylnaphtho [2,1-b] furan 1 was reacted with various aromatic aldehydes in presence of alkali, to produce corresponding chalcones 2a-i. These were converted into l-phenyl-3- (naphtho [2,l-b] fur-2yl-5- aryl-2-pyrazolines 3a-i and 1-(4-nitrophenyl)-3-(naphtho [2,1-b] fur-2yl-5-aryl-2-pyrazolines 4a-i by treatment with phenyl hydrazine and 4-nitrophenyl hydrazine respectively. The reaction of chalcones 2a-i with hydroxylamine hydrochloride in presence of sodium acetate in glacial acetic acid produced 3- (naphtho [2,1-b] fur-2yl)-5-aryI-2-isoxazole5a -i, whereas similar reaction in the presence of potassium hydroxide yielded 3-(naphtho [2,l-b] fur-2yl)-5-aryl-2-isoxazolines 6a and 6e. All the compounds have been characterized by elemental analysis and spectroscopic data. These novel biheterocyclic compounds have been screened for antibacterial, antifungal, anthelmintic and analgesic activities. The compound 4e showed promising antimicrobial activity, some of the compounds exhibited moderate antibacterial and antifungal activity. The only compound that showed maximum analgesic activity is 3d. Anthelmintic activity revealed the compounds 4e, 5b and 5i were as active as the standard drug.

TL;DR: The results suggest that cypermethrin is more toxic than malathion and combinations of higher concentrations of cypermETHrin with malathions are more deleterious to the survivability of tadpoles.
Abstract: This study was undertaken to determine the effect of environmentally realistic concentrations of two commonly used pesticides viz., malathion and cypermethrin, using a fully 3 × 3 factorial experiments on the survivability and time of metamorphosis in a common rice paddy field frog (cricket frog) Fejervarya limnocharis under laboratory conditions. The results suggest that cypermethrin is more toxic than malathion and combinations of higher concentrations of cypermethrin (50 μg/L) with malathion (250 and 500 μg/L) are more deleterious to the survivability of tadpoles. With increasing cypermethrin concentration, the survivability of tadpole decreased (r = -0.986, P = 0.108). But cypermethrin alone induced early metamorphosis among the surviving tadpoles. However, there was a delay in the time required for metamorphosis induced by malathion and its combination with cypermethrin. The delay in metamorphosis may indicate the altered physiological fitness of the individual. The emergent froglets will be subjected to environmental stressors like high temperature and less humidity of post-monsoon tropical climate that could enhance negative influence triggered by pesticides.
