TL;DR: In this paper, a linkage map has been created with 100 polymorphic markers and 140 F2 mapping population derived from PS5, which is saline sensitive and CSR10, saline tolerant rice variety.
Abstract: Improvement in salt tolerance at reproductive stage is very important for enhancing the grain yield and highly desirable to sustain production in saline areas. In the present study, 140 F2 populations derived from PS5, which is saline sensitive and CSR10, saline tolerant rice variety. We evaluated 140 F2 for salinity tolerance at reproductive stage for 18 different morphological, biochemical and physiological traits. We used 436 rice HvSSR markers which covers 12 chromosomes of rice. The linkage map has been created with 100 polymorphic markers and 140 F2 mapping population. We identified 39 QTLs which explained 3–45% phenotypic variance at LOD score 2.6–15.2. Significant QTLs were identified for sodium content, potassium content, sodium/potassium ratio in roots and leaves including qNaL-1.2, qNa/KL-1.3, qKR-1 and qNa/KL-1.2 with R2 of 45%, 42%, 35% and 32%, respectively, on chromosome 1. We identified novel QTL qGY-2 for grain yield on chromosome 2 along with QTL for stress tolerant index on chromosome 6, a noteworthy QTL for salt susceptible index of grain yield was recognized with 45% of phenotypic variation. We also identified four novel QTLs for chlorophyll content and one locus for proline content in leaves under salinity. Validation of these QTLs in fixed mapping population (RILs) and further fine mapping of these QTLs may be advantageous for marker-assisted breeding programs that led to development and commercial cultivation of reproductive stage salt-tolerant rice varieties.

Abstract: Abstract This study has been conducted to focus on natural convection flow of Casson fluid through an annular microchannel formed by two cylinders in the presence of magnetic field. The process of heat generation/absorption is taken into consideration. Combined effects of various parameters such as porous medium, velocity slip and temperature jump are considered. Solution of the present mathematical model is obtained numerically using fourth-fifth order Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg method. The flow velocity, thermal field, skin friction and Nusselt number are scrutinized with respect to the involved parameters of interest such as fluid wall interaction parameter, rarefaction parameter, Casson parameter and Darcy number with the aid of graphs. It is established that higher values of Casson parameter increases the skin friction coefficient. Further it is obtained that rate of heat transfer diminishes as fluid wall interaction parameter increases.

TL;DR: In atherogenic diet induced hyperlipidemic model, the rats receiving treatment with gum ghatti at 250 mg/kg dosage showed significant reduction in serum triglyceride only and there was no significant changes either in serum total cholesterol or elevation in HDL.
Abstract: Cardiovascular diseases are becoming an increasing problem worldwide and hypercholesterolemia has been correlated for coronary heart diseases. Currently available hypolipidemic drugs have been associated with number of side effects. Herbal treatment for hyperlipidemia poses no side effects and is relatively cheap and locally available. In view of this, the present study was carried out to investigate the effect of gum ghatti of Anogeissus lalifolia on serum lipid levels of albino rats. Rats were made hyperlipidemic by the oral administration of cholesterol (400mg/kg body weight/day) along with cholic acid (50mg/kg) in coconut oil. The hypolipidemic effect was compared with control. The rats were divided into six groups of six animals each. In atherogenic diet induced hyperlipidemic model, the rats receiving treatment with gum ghatti at 250 mg/kg dosage showed significant reduction in serum triglyceride (82.75±0.63) only and there was no significant changes either in serum total cholesterol or elevation in HDL. Whereas, at 500 and 750 mg/kg dosage showed significant reduction in serum total cholesterol (72.85±0.60, 68.17±0.95) and serum triglyceride (78.92±0.34, 75.93±1.05). Further, the 750 mg/kg dose has also exhibited significant elevation in high density lipoprotein cholesterol (41.13±0.37).

TL;DR: In this article, a mild and efficient synthesis of new 4-hydroxy-3-(phenylthio)-2H-chromen-2-ones 4a-k and 4hydroxy 3-(imidazol/tetrazolo-2]-2-yl)thio]-2H -chromen2-1-ones 6a-d is described.
Abstract: A mild and efficient synthesis of new 4-hydroxy-3-(phenylthio)-2H-chromen-2-ones 4a–k and 4-hydroxy-3-[imidazol/tetrazolo-2-yl)thio]-2H-chromen-2-ones 6a–d is described. The compounds 4a–c were further subjected to oxidation by m-CPBA to obtain 3-(phenylsulfonyl)-4-hydroxy-2H-chromen-2-ones 5a–c. The structures of the resulted new compounds were established by IR, 1H NMR, mass, and elemental analysis. All the synthesized compounds were subjected to antibacterial activity against the Gram positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, and Streptococcus haemolytius and the Gram negative bacteria Salmonella typhi, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Klebsiella pneumonia. The analgesic activity was carried out using Swiss albino male mice by abdominal concentration method. Supplemental materials are available for this article.
