TL;DR: In this paper, the problem of steady, boundary layer flow and heat transfer of a nanofluid with fluid-particle suspension over an exponentially stretching surface in the presence of transverse magnetic field and viscous dissipation was considered.
Abstract: This paper considers the problem of steady, boundary layer flow and heat transfer of a nanofluid with fluid-particle suspension over an exponentially stretching surface in the presence of transverse magnetic field and viscous dissipation. The stretching velocity and wall temperature are assumed to vary according to specific exponential form. The governing equations in partial forms are reduced to a system of coupled non-linear ordinary differential equations using suitable similarity transformations. An effective Runge–Kutta–Fehlberg (RKF-45) is used to solve the obtained differential equations with the help of a symbolic software MAPLE. The effects of flow parameters—such as nanofluid interaction parameter, magnetic parameter, solid volume fraction of nanoparticle parameter, Prandtl number and Eckert number—on the flow field and heat-transfer characteristics were obtained and are tabulated. Useful discussions were carried out with the help of plotted graphs and tables. Under the limiting cases, c...

TL;DR: Investigation of novel intercalating compounds of pyrimido[4′,5′:4,5]selenolo(2,3-b)quinoline series shows results that suggest the possibility of BPSQ triggering extrinsic pathway for induction of apoptosis, which is discussed.
Abstract: DNA intercalators are one of the most commonly used chemotherapeutic agents. Novel intercalating compounds of pyrimido[4′,5′:4,5]selenolo(2,3-b)quinoline series having a butylamino or piperazino group at fourth position (BPSQ and PPSQ, respectively) are studied. Our results showed that BPSQ induced cytotoxicity whereas PPSQ was cytostatic. The cytotoxicity induced by BPSQ was concentration- and time-dependent. Cell cycle analysis and tritiated thymidine assay revealed that BPSQ affects the cell cycle progression by arresting at S phase. The absence of p-histone H3 and reduction in the levels of PCNA in the cells treated with BPSQ further confirmed the cell cycle arrest. Further, annexin V staining, DNA fragmentation, nuclear condensation and changes in the expression levels of BCL2/BAD confirmed the activation of apoptosis. Activation of caspase 8 and lack of cleavage of caspase 9, caspase 3 and PARP suggest the possibility of BPSQ triggering extrinsic pathway for induction of apoptosis, which is discussed. Hence, we have identified a novel compound which would have clinical relevance in cancer chemotherapeutics.

TL;DR: Seasonality among various phenophases indicates that leaf senescence flower initiation and fruit fall have strong seasonality.
Abstract: This paper describes the leafing, flowering and fruiting phenology of canopy trees in the dry deciduous forest of Bhadra wildlife sanctuary from June 2004 to May 2006. All the woody canopy individuals (> 20 cm girth at breast height) were identified and tagged with a unique number along a transect of approximately 2 Km comprising 157 individuals of 22 species. Observations were made at monthly intervals from June 2004 to May 2006 for leafing, flowering and fruiting phenophases. Leaf fall starts in September, with a peak in December and January. Leaf initiation begins in February, with a peak in April before the monsoon. Leaf expansion starts in February from pre-monsoon with a peak in May and July during the monsoon. Leaf senescence begins in September to November and peaks in January to March. Flower bud initiates in January with a peak in April and May, and pollination begins in April with a peak in May and July before the monsoon to onset of monsoon. Fruit bud initiates in May with a peak in September and October. Unripened fruit was observed in May with a peak in September and November. Fruit fall begins in November with a peak in March. Our results show that leafing and flowering activities occur in the summer or pre-monsoon. Fruiting patterns occur during the monsoon to post - monsoon season. Seasonality among various phenophases indicates that leaf senescence flower initiation and fruit fall have strong seasonality.

TL;DR: In this paper, the exponential space dependent heat source (ESHS) process is utilized to explore the thermal transport characteristics of Marangoni convective flow in a Cu-H 2 O nanoliquid due to an infinite disk.
Abstract: The exponential space dependent heat source (ESHS) process is utilized to explore the thermal transport characteristics of Marangoni convective flow in a Cu-H 2 O nanoliquid due to an infinite disk. Flow is driven by linear temperature. Five distinct nanoparticle shapes such as sphere, tetrahedron, column, hexahedron and lamina are accounted. Impacts of Joule heating, radiation and viscous dissipation are also retained. Hamilton-Crosser’s expression is employed to deploy effective thermal conductivity of nanoliquid. Multi degree partial differential equations system is reduced by Karman transformations and then solved via shooting method. It is figured out that the heat transfer rate is enhanced for stronger Marangoni convection and nanoparticle volume fraction. Also, shape of the nanoparticles significantly affects the flow fields.
