Abstract: A set of rotations and Lorentz boosts is presented for studying the three‐parameter little groups of the Poincare group. This set constitutes a Lorentz generalization of the Euler angles for the description of classical rigid bodies. The concept of Lorentz‐generalized Euler rotations is then extended to the parametrization of the E(2)‐like little group and the O(2,1)‐like little group for massless and imaginary‐mass particles, respectively. It is shown that the E(2)‐like little group for massless particles is a limiting case of the O(3)‐like or O(2,1)‐like little group. A detailed analysis is carried out for the two‐component SL(2,c) spinors. It is shown that the gauge degrees of freedom associated with the translationlike transformation of the E(2)‐like little group can be traced to the SL(2,c) spins that fail to align themselves to their respective momenta in the limit of large momentum and/or vanishing mass.

TL;DR: By using silicon wafer, penetrable to the infrared beam, the i.r. spectra of silica and solid samples were measured, and this method was proved to be more advantageous than the conventional methods as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: By using silicon wafer, penetrable to the infrared beam, the i.r. spectra of silica and solid samples were measured, and this method was proved to be advantageous than the conventional methods. The silicon wafer was thermally stable below 800‡C, and not significantly oxidized below the temperature. The silicon wafer technique for the gas adsorption studies had advantages on getting sharper absorptions of the brittle mineral samples and the efflorescent samples which were unable to be self-supported. Besides, this technique was effectively applicable to the samples such as cupric sulfate which easily react with KBr.

TL;DR: The most adequate concentration of glucose in intraocular irrigating solution for the retina was studied electrophysiologically in the pigmented rabbit in vitro and it appears that slight hyperglycemic concentrations might have favorable effects on the ischemic retina.
Abstract: The most adequate concentration of glucose in intraocular irrigating solution for the retina was studied electrophysiologically in the pigmented rabbit in vitro. Comparison of b-wave amplitudes demonstrated that glucose at a concentration of 20 m M/l yielded the highest values. A 40 mM/l glucose solution also increased the b-waves but to a lesser extent than did a solution of 20 mM/l. This result might be due to the detrimental effects of osmolarity. However, under hypoxic conditions the amplitudes of the b-wave obtained with 40 mM/l glucose solution was greater than those with 20 mM/l. It thus appears that slight hyperglycemic concentrations might have favorable effects on the ischemic retina.

TL;DR: In this article, a semi-invariant submanifolds of a complex space form with almost contact metric compound structure is defined on an almost Hermitian manifold, which is a general notion of (f, g, u, v, w, λ, μ, ν)-structure.
Abstract: Real hypersurfaces of an almost Hermitian manifold naturally admit an almost contact metric structure and the (f, g, u, v, w, λ, μ, ν)-structure is defined on submanifolds of codimension 3 of an almost Hermitian manifold. We study the so-called semi-invariant submanifolds of a complex space form with almost contact metric compound structure which is a general notion of (f, g, u, v, w, λ, μ, ν)-structure.

TL;DR: The species composition, population density, and seasonal prevalence of vector mosquitoes in an inland area of Kyungpook province were studied, based on light trap and human bait trap collections, and the recent patterns of infestation for infective larvae of Brugia malayi in these vector hosts were investigated from May to November in 1985.
Abstract: The species composition, population density, and seasonal prevalence of vector mosquitoes in an inland area of Kyungpook province were studied, based on light trap and human bait trap collections, and the recent patterns of infestation for infective larvae of Brugia malayi in these vector hosts were investigated from May to November in 1985. Nine species in four genera of mosquitoes were collected by light trap, human bait trap, and/or by nets. Anopheles sinensis Wiedemann was the most abundant species collected by light traps during this year. Culex tritaeniorhychus Giles was the second abundant species, and Aedes vexans nipponii(Theobald) ranked third in total abundance. The earlist time when A. sinensis were found was the middle of May. At that time the temperature ranged from 14.3 degrees C to 22.8 degrees C and the humidity 53-90 per cent. The month of highest average nightly catch was July, when the temperature was betweeen 21.5 degrees C and 30.6 degrees C and the humidity 72-91 per cent. The peak time of biting activity of mosquitoes was different in each month, i.e. between 22:00-23:00 in July, and 20:00-21:00 hours in September, when the temperature was between 24.3 degrees C and 26.5 degrees C and the humidity 73-88 per cent in the field. While infective larvae of B. malayi were reported to have been found in one species of mosquito in 1975, no larvae were found in any species collected in this survey.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of annealing on electron conduction, microstructure and sample composition are investigated for hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) prepared by plasma decomposition of silane at room temperature.
Abstract: The effects of annealing on electron conduction, microstructure and sample composition are investigated for hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a–Si:H) prepared by plasma decomposition of silane at room temperature. We found that the high-temperature conductivity kink (downward) was not observed at an annealing temperature (T a) of 200deg;C, but it appeared and nearly disappeared by cumulatively annealing at 250deg;C and 400deg;C. Comparing the conductivity results with the hydrogen evolution spectra and the electron micrographs as T a increases, it is suggested that the appearance and disappearance of the conductivity kink could be interpreted in terms of a change of the spatial volume of tightly and loosely hydrogen-bonded region in heterogeneous a-Si: H films.

TL;DR: In this paper, the linear reduction of Hilbert type proof systems for propositional logic to if-then-else equational logic has been studied, and it has been shown that the technique used in the construction can be extended to linear reductions of first-order logic to equational linear logic.
Abstract: We present a construction of the linear reduction of Hilbert type proof systems for propositional logic to if-then-else equational logic. This construction is an improvement over the same result found in [4] in the sense that the technique used in the construction can be extended to the linear reduction of first-order logic to if-then-else equational logic.

TL;DR: In this paper, the age-metallicity relation for the solar neighbourhood was derived from the uvby, Hβ photometry of F-stars using the evolutionary models of Hejlesen (1980).
Abstract: We derived the age-metallicity relation for the solar neighbourhood from the uvby, Hβ photometry of F-stars using the evolutionary models of Hejlesen (1980). It is shown that disk formation is divided into two phases according to the fast and slow collapse which accompany the initial rapid enrichment and slow increase of the metallicity of the galactic disk, respectively.

Abstract: A parallel-plate waveguide with a narrow slit in its upper plate is investigated. The magnetic current induced in the slit is obtained from an integral equation whose kernel is approximated to a logarithmic function. From knowledge of the magnetic current, the normalised conductance and susceptance of the slit are computed.

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that, when an infinite-time optimal regulation problem is solved via a method of increasing the terminal time t f of a corresponding finite-time problem, convergence can be accelerated by incorporating a quadratic terminal weight x(t f √ T Px(t_{f}), where P is the steady-state solution of the Riccati equation for a corresponding truncated linear quadrastic problem.

TL;DR: The clinical value of an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for the detection of anti-HBc IgM was evaluated by testing 202 sera from acute viral hepatitis B, hepatitis B (HB), chronic hepatitis (CAH), chronic liver disease (CLD), cirrhosis, primary hepatoma, HBsAg carrier, acute viral Hepatitis A (AVHA), hepatitis A (HA), non-A, non-B (NANB) hepatitis
Abstract: The clinical value of an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for the detection of anti-HBc IgM was evaluated by testing 202 sera from acute viral hepatitis B (AVHB), hepatitis B (HB), chronic hepatitis (CAH), chronic liver disease (CLD), cirrhosis, primary hepatoma, HBsAg carrier, acute viral hepatitis A (AVHA), hepatitis A (HA), non-A, non-B (NANB) hepatitis and miscellaneous conditions other than hepatic disease, and 19 additional various hepatic disease cases were examined for anti-delta. In clinical situations the accurate diagnosis of HB is not always possible and the differential diagnosis seems to be very important especially in making decisions of treatment and estimation of prognosis. In overall cases the highest positive rate of anti-HBc IgM was found in AVHB as shown as 74.3% (26/35) comparing to other conditions in which the positive rate was extremely low (2.1%). The anti-HBc IgM appeared to be highly specific to AVHB (83.9%) as compared to the other. The positive rate of HBsAg was high in AVHB, CAH and HBsAg carrier (100.0%) followed by CLD, cirrhosis and HB (up to 70.8%). The ALT activities and ALPalb fractions were significantly high in AVHB (p less than 0.005). The correlation between the positivity of anti-HBc IgM and highly abnormal ALT appeared be high. AVHB was confined mostly to 10-20 age group and the male to female ratio was about 6 to 1. Subgroup of AVHB II with positive anti-HBc IgM appeared to have a greater chance being positive for HBsAg and ALPalb. The S/N ratio of anti-HBc IgM was as high as 20 which was unique to AVHB.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

TL;DR: A new technique for low cost robust voice compression at rate of 9.6 K bps or less is presented based on applying two new concepts in voice compression; State-variable digital biquads and Punctured tree search algorithm.
Abstract: This paper presents a new technique for low cost robust voice compression at rate of 9.6 K bps or less. Our approach is based on applying two new concepts in voice compression; State-variable digital biquads and Punctured tree search algorithm. The digital biquads are used for real time spectral analysis of speech. The simplified multipulse excitation is generated by the punctured tree search algorithm that combines the conventional (M,L) tree search algorithm and data compression.
