TL;DR: The CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) as mentioned in this paper is used to study photo-and electro-induced nuclear and hadronic reactions by providing efficient detection of neutral and charged particles over a good fraction of the full solid angle.
Abstract: The CEBAF large acceptance spectrometer (CLAS) is used to study photo- and electro-induced nuclear and hadronic reactions by providing efficient detection of neutral and charged particles over a good fraction of the full solid angle. A collaboration of about 30 institutions has designed, assembled, and commissioned CLAS in Hall B at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. The CLAS detector is based on a novel six-coil toroidal magnet which provides a largely azimuthal field distribution. Trajectory reconstruction using drift chambers results in a momentum resolution of 0.5% at forward angles. Cherenkov counters, time-of-flight scintillators, and electromagnetic calorimeters provide good particle identification. Fast triggering and high data-acquisition rates allow operation at a luminosity of 10 34 nucleon cm −2 s −1 . These capabilities are being used in a broad experimental program to study the structure and interactions of mesons, nucleons, and nuclei using polarized and unpolarized electron and photon beams and targets. This paper is a comprehensive and general description of the design, construction and performance of CLAS.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors highlight the interfacial and interparticle CTs under the bandgap excitation of TiO2 particles, visible light-induced photochemical processes via either dye-sensitization or ligand-to-metal CTs at surface modified TiO 2 particles, and the applications of the photoprocesses to pollutant degradation and simultaneous hydrogen production.
Abstract: High efficiency solar photocatalysis requires an effective separation of photogenerated charge carriers and their rapid transport to the semiconductor interface. The mechanisms and kinetics of charge separation and interfacial/interparticle charge transfers (CT) are significantly influenced by both the bulk and surface properties of the semiconductor. The surface properties are particularly important because the photocatalysis should be driven by the interfacial CT. The most popular and the most investigated semiconductor photocatalyst is based on bare and modified TiO2. This article highlights the interfacial and interparticle CTs under the bandgap excitation of TiO2 particles, visible light-induced photochemical processes via either dye-sensitization or ligand-to-metal CTs at surface modified TiO2 particles, and the applications of the photo-processes to pollutant degradation and simultaneous hydrogen production. While a variety of surface modification techniques using various nanomaterials and chemical reagents have been developed and tested so far, their effects are very diverse depending on the characteristics of the applied photocatalytic systems and even contradictory in some cases. Better understanding of how the modification influences the photoinduced CT events in semiconductors is required, particularly for designing hybrid photocatalysts with controlled CTs, which is sought-after for practical applications of photocatalysis.

TL;DR: A very effective hyperthermia system for successful photothermal cancer therapy and apparently complete tumor resorption was achieved without damage to the surrounding tissue, suggesting a promising candidate for clinical phototherapeutic applications.
Abstract: We developed a very effective hyperthermia system for successful photothermal cancer therapy. Instead of applying individual gold nanorods (GNRs) that can absorb NIR light, GNRs were loaded into functional nanocarriers that could provide stable storage of GNRs and selective delivery to a target tumor site. The functional nanocarriers (chitosan-conjugated, Pluronic-based nanocarriers) were prepared by chemically cross-linking Pluronic F 68 with chitosan conjugation to form a flexible, soft, and excellent reservoir for biomacromolecules as well as tumor targeting. In vivo characteristics of the nanocarriers including a long circulation time, a good tumor accumulation, and low liver uptake were previously characterized by us. When GNRs were delivered by using these nanocarriers, much enhanced in vitro cellular uptake and a photothermal effect were observed for a cancer cell line. More importantly, an intravenous injection of this system followed by NIR laser irradiation to the tumor site resulted in a very e...
