TL;DR: This review focuses on the design, detection mechanism, and performance of fluorescent probes for the detection of singlet oxygen, hydrogen peroxide, hydroxyl radicals, or superoxide anion (O2−.), a field in which remarkable progress has been achieved in the last few years.
Abstract: Reactive oxygen species (ROS) have captured the interest of many researchers in the chemical, biological, and medical fields since they are thought to be associated with various pathological conditions. Fluorescent probes for the detection of ROS are promising tools with which to enhance our understanding of the physiological roles of ROS, because they provide spatial and temporal information about target biomolecules in in vivo cellular systems. ROS probes, designed to detect specific ROS with a high selectivity, would be desirable, since it is now becoming clear that each ROS has its own unique physiological activity. However, dihydro-compounds such as 2',7'-dichlorodihydrofluorescein (DCFH), which have traditionally been used for detecting ROS, tend to react with a wide variety of ROS and are not completely photostable. Some attractive fluorescent probes that exhibit a high degree of selectivity toward specific ROS have recently been reported, and these selective probes are expected to have great potential for elucidating unknown physiological mechanisms associated with their target ROS. This review focuses on the design, detection mechanism, and performance of fluorescent probes for the detection of singlet oxygen ((1)O(2)), hydrogen peroxide (H(2)O(2)), hydroxyl radicals ((.)OH), or superoxide anion (O(2) (-.)), a field in which remarkable progress has been achieved in the last few years.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the strategic implementation of electron-accepting tricoordinate boron and electron-donating carbazole subunits into polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons produces a family of attractive full-color luminophores that can emit narrowband and efficient thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF).
Abstract: Herein, we demonstrate that the strategic implementation of electron-accepting tricoordinate boron and electron-donating carbazole subunits into polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) produces a family of attractive full-color luminophores that can emit narrowband and efficient thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF). A versatile modular design for these boron- and carbazole-embedded PAHs can facilitate the systematic modulation of their photophysical and optoelectronic properties. Organic light-emitting diodes that utilize these PAHs as TADF emitters demonstrate narrowband electroluminescence from blue to red, achieving high maximum external quantum efficiencies of 29.3%, 31.8%, and 22.0% for blue, green, and red, respectively.

TL;DR: From analyses of forward mutations induced in cells lacking 8-oxo-dGTPase (MutT protein), cooperative functions of these proteins in control of the spontaneous mutagenesis became evident and in mutator strains lacking MutT and/or MutM proteins,8-oxoguanine of DNA increased to a concentration expected from the increased rate of mutation.
Abstract: 8-Oxo-dGTP (8-oxo-7,8-dihydrodeoxyguanosine triphosphate) is a potent mutagenic substrate for DNA synthesis. The accumulation of 8-oxo-dGTP in the nucleotide pool induces G:C-->T:A transversion as well as A:T-->C:G transversion, and Escherichia coli cells possess mechanisms for preventing such mutations. The mutT gene product specifically hydrolyzes 8-oxo-dGTP to the monophosphate form while the mutM and the mutY gene products function to correct mispairs caused by incorporation of 8-oxoguanine into DNA. From analyses of forward mutations induced in cells lacking 8-oxo-dGTPase (MutT protein) and/or repair enzymes that suppress mutations caused by 8-oxoguanine in DNA (MutM and MutY proteins), cooperative functions of these proteins in control of the spontaneous mutagenesis became evident. In mutator strains lacking MutT and/or MutM proteins, 8-oxoguanine of DNA increased to a concentration expected from the increased rate of mutation.

TL;DR: The ability to dissolve carbohydrates in ionic liquids and the formation of bilayer membranes, self-assembling gels will open new dimensions in Ionic liquid research.
Abstract: Ether-containing ionic liquids are developed, which are capable of dissolving carbohydrates such as β-d-glucose, α-cyclodextrin, amylose, agarose, and a glycosylated protein, glucose oxidase. When glycolipids are dispersed in these sugar-philic ionic liquids, stable bilayer membranes are formed. They display reversible thermal transformation from fibrous assemblies to vesicles. Physical gelation of ionic liquids occurs by dissolving amide-group-enriched glycolipids, providing a first example of self-assembling ionogels. The ability to dissolve carbohydrates in ionic liquids and the formation of bilayer membranes, self-assembling gels will open new dimensions in ionic liquid research.
