Abstract: The past decade has seen the great potential of applying deep neural network (DNN) based software to safety-critical scenarios, such as autonomous driving. Similar to traditional software, DNNs could exhibit incorrect behaviors, caused by hidden defects, leading to severe accidents and losses. In this paper, we propose DeepHunter, a coverage-guided fuzz testing framework for detecting potential defects of general-purpose DNNs. To this end, we first propose a metamorphic mutation strategy to generate new semantically preserved tests, and leverage multiple extensible coverage criteria as feedback to guide the test generation. We further propose a seed selection strategy that combines both diversity-based and recency-based seed selection. We implement and incorporate 5 existing testing criteria and 4 seed selection strategies in DeepHunter. Large-scale experiments demonstrate that (1) our metamorphic mutation strategy is useful to generate new valid tests with the same semantics as the original seed, by up to a 98% validity ratio; (2) the diversity-based seed selection generally weighs more than recency-based seed selection in boosting the coverage and in detecting defects; (3) DeepHunter outperforms the state of the arts by coverage as well as the quantity and diversity of defects identified; (4) guided by corner-region based criteria, DeepHunter is useful to capture defects during the DNN quantization for platform migration.

Abstract: Purpose To evaluate, in Japan Clinical Oncology Group study 0403, the safety and efficacy of stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) in patients with T1N0M0 non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Methods and Materials Eligibility criteria included histologically or cytologically proven NSCLC, clinical T1N0M0. Prescribed dose was 48 Gy at the isocenter in 4 fractions. The primary endpoint was the percent (%) 3-year overall survival. The threshold % 3-year survival to be rejected was set at 35% for inoperable patients, whereas the expected % 3-year survival was 80% for operable patients. Results Between July 2004 and November 2008, 169 patients from 15 institutions were registered. One hundred inoperable and 64 operable patients (total 164) were eligible. Patients' characteristics were 122 male, 47 female; median age 78 years (range, 50-91 years); adenocarcinomas, 90; squamous cell carcinomas, 61; others, 18. Of the 100 inoperable patients, the % 3-year OS was 59.9% (95% confidence interval 49.6%-68.8%). Grade 3 and 4 toxicities were observed in 10 and 2 patients, respectively. No grade 5 toxicity was observed. Of the 64 operable patients, the % 3-year OS was 76.5% (95% confidence interval 64.0%-85.1%). Grade 3 toxicities were observed in 5 patients. No grade 4 and 5 toxicities were observed. Conclusions Stereotactic body radiation therapy for stage I NSCLC is effective, with low incidences of severe toxicity. This treatment can be considered a standard treatment for inoperable stage I NSCLC. This treatment is promising as an alternative to surgery for operable stage I NSCLC.

Abstract: Titanium is used as a metal for biocompatible materials such as dental implants or restorations because of its excellent chemical stability. However, the corrosion of Ti in the prophylactic fluoride-containing environment can become problematic. To clarify the effects of fluoride concentration and pH on the corrosion behavior of Ti, we conducted anodic polarization and immersion tests in NaF solution of various concentrations and pH values. The concentrations of dissolved Ti in the test solutions were analyzed by inductively coupled plasma mass spectroscopy. There were obvious limits of fluoride concentration and the pH value at which the corrosion behavior of Ti changed. The corrosion of Ti in the solution containing fluoride depended on the concentration of hydrofluoric acid (HF). When the HF concentration in the solution was higher than about 30 ppm, the passivation film of the Ti was destroyed. The results of this study revealed a relation between the fluoride concentrations and pH values at which Ti corrosion occurred and provided data on such corrosion in environments where the fluoride concentration and pH value are known.

Abstract: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is characterised by progressive elevation of pulmonary artery pressure and pulmonary vascular resistance. Pathohistological findings have demonstrated that PH is associated with abnormal vascular structures, including medial and/or intimal hypertrophy, concentric or eccentric intimal fibrosis, obstruction in the arterial lumen, and aneurysmal dilatation.1 Patients with PH are currently treated with anticoagulant agents, vasodilators including continuous intravenous prostacyclin (prostaglandin I2) and oral sildenafil or bosentan, and in end stage, with lung transplantation,1 when applicable. Endothelial dysfunction of pulmonary arteries and enhanced pulmonary vasoconstriction contribute to the development of PH.1 Endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) expression is reduced in patients with PH and therefore nitric oxide inhalation and sildenafil are useful for those patients.
