TL;DR: The results suggest that X. aethiopica can only effectively control T. castaneum populations that have infested millet but do not prevent cross-infestation via repellency.
Abstract: The toxicity and repellency of Xylopia aethiopica seed extract was investigated in the laboratory against Tribolium castaneum Herbst. Concentration and days after treatment (DAT) caused a significant increase in T. castaneum adult mortality with an interaction effect of both on mortality when filter paper was impregnated with X. aethiopica extract. At 0.2 ml/60 cm2 extract, significant mortality was observed at three–seven DAT when compared with one DAT. At 0.4 ml/60cm2, 100% mortality was recorded at the lowest exposure period of one DAT. When 0.2 ml extract was applied to 5 g millet seeds, mortality at five–seven DAT was significantly higher than mortality observed in the control. Although repellency was dose-dependent, the percentage of T. castaneum that were repelled from treated filter paper was not significant. At 0.4 ml/60 cm2, Class II repellency (26.7%) was observed. The results suggest that X. aethiopica can only effectively control T. castaneum populations that have infested millet but do not p...

TL;DR: In this paper, a well structured questionnaire was designed to obtain relevant information from 350 respondents chosen through stratified sampling techniques and for the analysis, Multinomial logit was employed.
Abstract: This study examines choice of credit by small-scale enterprises from credit markets in Nigeria. A well structured questionnaire was designed to obtain relevant information from 350 respondents chosen through stratified sampling techniques and for the analysis, Multinomial logit was employed. The results showed that a large number of variables determine whether respondents apply for credit from credit markets or not. Each respondent was able to choose one of the five credit institutions as his/her preferred source of credit. It is conclusive that the availability of different sources of credit has impact on demand for credit. To this end, policies to enhance the role of informal credit institutions to bring about closer linkages between formal and informal institutions should be formulated. Better linkages would enable bank to benefit from the outreach and local knowledge of informal agents, expanding financial savings mobilization and credit delivery and improving the overall efficiency and productivity of the financial system.

TL;DR: In this paper, a nonlinear model for multi-input multi-output reactive distillation process was developed for the treatment of waste water containing 30% g/g of acetic acid using fuzzy model technique based on autoregressive with exogenous inputs (ARX) models.
Abstract: Acetic acid constitutes major component of waste water effluent in petrochemical and fine chemical industries but its recovery poses a serious environmental challenge in the industries. In this work, nonlinear model for multi-input multi-output reactive distillation process was developed for the treatment of waste water containing 30% g/g of acetic acid using fuzzy model technique based on autoregressive with exogenous inputs (ARX) models. It was aimed at obtaining a simplified model which should have essential dynamic behaviour of the process suitable for applications such as control design and dynamic optimization. Data sets used for the model development were obtained from simulated model built in CHEMCAD environment. Reflux flow rate and reboiler heat duty were used as input variables while ethyl acetate top product purity and acetic acid fractional conversion were used as output variables. Structured nonlinear parameter optimization method (SNPOM) was used for parameters estimation to effectively characterize the systems. The percentages of fitness for top product ethyl acetate purity and acetic acid fractional conversion were found to be 85.35% and 82.95%, respectively. The residual analysis carried out on the model showed that the proposed model was able to capture nonlinear dynamic behaviours of the process.

TL;DR: The problem of infertility in Nigeria is surveyed with a view to assessing the ethical dimension of proposals to manage infertility as a public sector priority in health care delivery.
Abstract: Infertility has recently been construed to be a serious problem in sub-Saharan Africa. This problem seems to be viewed as of low priority with reference to the effective and efficient allocation of available health resources by national governments as well as by international donors sponsoring either research or service delivery in the public health sector. In this paper the problem of infertility in Nigeria is surveyed with a view to assessing the ethical dimension of proposals to manage infertility as a public sector priority in health care delivery. The population/individual and public/private distinction in the formulation of health policy has ethical implications that cannot simply be ignored and are therefore engaged in critically assessing the problem of infertility. Cost-utility analysis (such as Quality Adjusted Life-Year composite index) in the management of infertility in Nigeria entails the need for caution relevant to the country's efforts to achieve Millennium Development Goals. This should remain the case whether the ethical evaluation appeals to utilitarian or contractarian (Rawlsian) principles. The "worst off " category of Nigerians includes (1) underweight children less than 5 years of age, with special concern for infants (0-1 years of age) and (2) the proportion of the population below a minimum level of dietary consumption. The Rawlsian ethic implies that any Federal Ministry of Health policy aimed at establishing public programs for infertility management can be considered a "fair" allocation and expenditure if, and only if, the situation for these two cohorts is not thereby made worse. Nigerian health policy cannot assume this type of increased allocation of its resources to infertility care without it being hard pressed to warrant defensible moral or rational argument.
