Abstract: Acacia nilotica is a widely used plant in traditional medical practice in Northern Nigeria and many African countries. The aim of this study was to determine the toxicological effects of a single dose (acute) and of repeated doses (sub-acute) administration of aqueous extract of A. nilotica root in rodents, following our earlier study on antiplasmodial activity. In the acute toxicity test, three groups of Swiss albino mice were orally administered aqueous extract of A. nilotica (50, 300 and 2000 mg/kg body weight) and signs of toxicity were observed daily for 14 days. In the sub-acute toxicity study, four groups of 12 rats (6 male and 6 female) were used. Group 1 received 10 ml/kg b.w distilled water (control), while groups 2, 3 and 4 received 125, 250 and 500 mg/kg b.w of the extract, respectively, for 28 consecutive days by oral gavage. Signs of toxicity/mortality, food and water intake and body weight changes were observed. Biochemical parameters were analysed in both plasma and liver homogenate. In the acute and sub-acute toxicity studies, the extract did not cause mortality. A significant reduction in the activity of lactate dehydrogenase was observed at 250 and 500 mg/kg b.w, while alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase and alkaline phosphatase activities were significantly higher than control values at 500 mg/kg b.w. The aqueous extract of A. nilotica was found to be safe in single dose administration in mice but repeated administration of doses higher than 250 mg/kg b.w of the extract for 28 days in rats may cause hepatotoxicity.

Abstract: The great interest attached to Copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) are traceable to its distinctive properties such as rigidity, high yield strength, high surface-to-volume ratio, hardness, flexibility and ductility. CuNPs have shown several applications such as catalytic, antiviral, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antifungal activities. Recently, Cu-NPs has gain a lot of importance comparable with gold and silver in several fields, it also offer additional benefit of been cheaper. The biosynthesis of Cu-NPs has been recommended as a valuable substitute to both the physical and chemical methods because its ecofriendly, relative cheap and entails easy process. The synthesis of Cu-NPs from plant extracts had gained significant attention over the years and its massive contribution to numerous industries and institutes is alarming. This review present a detailed report on eco-friendly methods for Cu-NPs synthesis and also highlighted factors influencing the synthesis of Cu-NPs from plant sources. The characterization techniques needed for Cu-NPs analysis are well discussed. Detailed benefits of phyto-synthesized Cu-NPs in biomedical field, agricultural section and environmental control are comprehensively discussed.

Abstract: We presented time series analysis of multifractal properties of M≥7.0 earthquakes in Himalaya and vicinity during the period 1895-1995. The multifractal analysis of complex phenomena involves the estimation and interpretation of D q -q relation. Our investigations show that: (1) the distribution of earthquakes of M≥7.0 on the time axis has a multifractal set, (2) well distributed, steep type decreasing function of D q with increasing q, indicates high rates of accumulation and release; therefore, leading to adjustment of a large scale stress field in the area, and (3) value of D 2 = 0.95 > D 2 > D ∞ = 0.80.
