TL;DR: The medical motivation for an endonasal surgical robot featuring concentric tube manipulators is provided, and the model-based design and teleoperation methods, as well as a complete system incorporating image guidance are described.
Abstract: Mechanics-based models of concentric tube continuum robots have recently achieved a level of sophistication that makes it possible to begin to apply these robots to a variety of real-world clinical scenarios. Endonasal skull base surgery is one such application, where their small diameter and tentacle-like dexterity are particularly advantageous. In this paper, we provide the medical motivation for an endonasal surgical robot featuring concentric tube manipulators, and describe our model-based design and teleoperation methods, as well as a complete system incorporating image guidance. Experimental demonstrations using a laparoscopic training task, a cadaver reachability study, and a phantom tumor resection experiment illustrate that both novice and expert users can effectively teleoperate the system, and that skull base surgeons can use the robot to achieve their objectives in a realistic surgical scenario.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the interaction between establishment-level codetermination and industry-level collective bargaining in Germany and derived the main hypothesis that in establishments covered by collective bargaining agreements, works councils are more likely to be engaged in productivityenhancing activities and less engaged in rent-seeking activities than their counterparts in uncovered establishments.
Abstract: This paper investigates the interaction between establishment-level codetermination and industry-level collective bargaining in Germany. Based on a bargaining model, we derive our main hypothesis: In establishments covered by collective bargaining agreements, works councils are more likely to be engaged in productivity-enhancing activities and less engaged in rent-seeking activities than their counterparts in uncovered establishments. Our empirical analysis confirms this hypothesis. The presence of works councils exerts a positive impact on productivity within the covered industrial relations regime but not within the uncovered regime. The presence of works councils has a positive effect on wages within the uncovered regime but not to the same degree within the covered regime.

TL;DR: Find pronounced phase fluctuations for condensates in very elongated traps in a broad temperature range and the dependence of their average value on temperature, number of particles, and the trapping potential is characterized.
Abstract: The occurrence of phase fluctuations due to thermal excitations in Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) is studied for a variety of temperatures and trap geometries. We observe the statistical nature of the appearance of phase fluctuations and characterize the dependence of their average value on temperature, number of particles, and the trapping potential. We find pronounced phase fluctuations for condensates in very elongated traps in a broad temperature range. The results are of great importance for the realization of BEC in quasi-1D geometries, for matter wave interferometry with BECs, as well as for coherence properties of guided atom laser beams.

TL;DR: In this paper, a review of the charge carrier transfer processes in photocatalytic processes is presented, including charge generation, charge trapping, charge recombination, and electron and hole transfer.
Abstract: Charge carrier transfer processes are very important and play a vital role in photocatalytic reactions. A fundamental understanding of the kinetics and mechanisms of these charge transfer processes is crucial from the viewpoint of developing efficient photocatalysis systems for large-scale industrialization. In this work, recent efforts concerning the understanding of the kinetics and the mechanisms of the charge transfer in photocatalytic processes have been reviewed. Fundamental aspects involved in these charge transfer processes, such as charge generation, charge trapping, charge recombination, and electron and hole transfer are primarily discussed. Moreover, some recent studies focusing on enhancing the photocatalytic efficiency by improving the charge transfer and separation are also reviewed.
