TL;DR: It is shown that female players have a 2–3 times higher ACL injury risk compared to their male counterparts, and a limiting factor in the existing literature is that age is not adjusted for in comparisons of ACL injuries between genders.
Abstract: Football (soccer), the most popular sport worldwide, is associated with a high injury risk, and the knee joint is often affected. Several studies have found female players to be more susceptible to knee injury, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in particular, compared to their male counterparts. There is, however, some controversy regarding the magnitude of this risk increase and a few studies have found no differences. The influence of age and activity type on gender-related differences in injury risk is only scarcely investigated. In this paper, the literature reporting gender-specific ACL injury risk in football is reviewed. A literature search yielded 33 relevant articles that were included for review. These show that female players have a 2-3 times higher ACL injury risk compared to their male counterparts. Females also tend to sustain their ACL injury at a younger age than males, and a limiting factor in the existing literature is that age is not adjusted for in comparisons of ACL injury risk between genders. Furthermore, the risk increase in females is primarily evident during match play, but type of exposure is also rarely adjusted for. Finally, the studies included in this review share important methodological limitations that are discussed as a starting point for future research in the field.

TL;DR: In this 12-week trial, the thyroid hormone analogue eprotirome was associated with decreases in levels of atherogenic lipoproteins in patients receiving treatment with statins.
Abstract: Background Dyslipidemia increases the risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and is incompletely reversed by statin therapy alone in many patients. Thyroid hormone lowers levels of serum low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and has other potentially favorable actions on lipoprotein metabolism. Consequently, thyromimetic drugs hold promise as lipid-lowering agents if adverse effects can be avoided. Methods We performed a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind, multicenter trial to assess the safety and efficacy of the thyromimetic compound eprotirome (KB2115) in lowering the level of serum LDL cholesterol in patients with hypercholesterolemia who were already receiving simvastatin or atorvastatin. In addition to statin treatment, patients received either eprotirome (at a dose of 25, 50, or 100 μg per day) or placebo. Secondary outcomes were changes in levels of serum apolipoprotein B, triglycerides, and Lp(a) lipoprotein. Patients were monitored for potential adverse thyromimetic effects...

TL;DR: In this article, the balance between product returns and demand for remanufactured products is a function of many variables, where the rate of technological innovation and the expected life of a product are the major influencing characteristics.

TL;DR: This paper presents a random set based approach to tracking of an unknown number of extended targets, in the presence of clutter measurements and missed detections, where the targets' extensions are modeled as random matrices, resulting in the Gaussian inverse Wishart phd (giw-phd) filter.
Abstract: This paper presents a random set based approach to tracking of an unknown number of extended targets, in the presence of clutter measurements and missed detections, where the targets' extensions are modeled as random matrices For this purpose, the random matrix framework developed recently by Koch is adapted into the extended target phd framework, resulting in the Gaussian inverse Wishart phd (giw-phd) filter A suitable multiple target likelihood is derived, and the main filter recursion is presented along with the necessary assumptions and approximations The particularly challenging case of close extended targets is addressed with practical measurement clustering algorithms The capabilities and limitations of the resulting extended target tracking framework are illustrated both in simulations and in experiments based on laser scans

TL;DR: It is concluded that psychotherapy is effective in the treatment of chronic depression and dysthymia but probably not as effective as pharmacotherapy (particularly the SSRIs), and indications that at least 18 treatment sessions are needed to realize optimal effects of psychotherapy.
